Chapter 9
Chapter 9 She Is My Wife
Maurice looked at the items scattered on the floor, then at the bowl of foul-smelling medicine on the table. His expression instantly turned dark.
“What are you doing?!”
Rebecca didn’t even get the chance to explain before Kayla spoke up.
“She’s trying to kill Levi, of course. I saw her poking needles at Levi’s body, but how can anyone just perform acupuncture so carelessly? What does a country bumpkin like her know?”
At the side, Phoebe still held a grudge from before, and she thought that it was time Rebecca learned her lesson.
Phoebe tugged at Maurice’s sleeve. “Grandpa, I’ve already told you before that she has an ulterior motive for getting married into our family. Look at what she’s wearing! She must be very poor, and she wants to kill Levi so that she can have a part of the Foleys’ assets.”
Maurice asked Rebecca directly, “Rebecca, I’m friends with your grandfather. Explain this.”
Of course, Rachel wouldn’t take the blame. She got up from the floor.
“Grandpa, I can cure Levi’s legs. Please give me some time.”
Kayla sneered.
“Look at you. You probably never even got into college. How dare you pretend to be a doctor?”
Rebecca side-eyed Kayla. “You never looked into my background, so how do you know whether I went to college or not? I dare speak such words because I have confidence. Even if something goes wrong during treatment, you won’t have mercy on me either.”
“So what if you know a little bit of medicine? My grandpa has asked the country’s most famed doctors to treat Levi’s legs, but none of them succeeded. Who do you think you are?”
Kayla was determined to chase Rebecca out of the Foley Family before sundown.
Just then, Maurice spoke with good reason.
“Rebecca, our family won’t falsely accuse anyone. If you can prove that you’re capable of curing Levi, I’ll believe you.”
Rebecca lowered her head, her thoughts unfathomable.
Phoebe was even more arrogant now. “What’s the matter? Are you at a loss for words now that we’ve seen through your schemes? Or are you thinking of more excuses to support your lies?”
Wasn’t Rebecca acting so high and mighty just now?
If anyone dared to offend Phoebe, they would be in for a world of pain.
Levi didn’t say anything from his position on the bed, for he wanted to see what Rebecca was trying to do. If she was capable in this aspect, why wouldn’t she produce any evidence?
Kayla urged Rebecca impatiently, saying, “Hurry up. If you can’t show any evidence, you should just admit that you’re trying to murder my brother.”
Rebecca gripped her fingertips, staying silent.
She was planning to only let Levi know of her first identity. After all, his trust was of utmost importance to her. She couldn’t care less about the others, though.
Kayla couldn’t wait any longer. “Looks like you can’t prove it. Grandpa, we should call the police. I’m guessing this woman will only tell the truth after getting sent to the police station.”
Suddenly, Levi sensed some feeling returning to his legs. Even though it was just for an instant, he noticed it all the same.
He subconsciously looked at Rebecca, realizing that even though she was facing the Foleys, her expression remained unchanged.
What an interesting woman, he thought.
Maurice didn’t say anything, so it was considered a silent agreement to Kayla’s words. Kayla curved her lips in glee and dialed 911.
Levi shouted, “Wait!”
Kayla looked up, stunned.
“What is it, Levi?”
“Let her stay and continue my treatment, and stop interfering in things.”
Phoebe grew emotional as well. “Levi, this woman is trying to harm you! How can we not intervene?”
“She’s my wife. She won’t harm me.” Levi raised his gaze slightly, and his deep eyes were filled with darkness.
