The Heart Sees

It was like watching a horror movie as I stepped out of the bathroom and saw Troy's face twisted in pain. He was shouting something at me but I was too busy trying to figure out what was happening. I walked to the side to get a better view when Lilac spoke to me, 'mate is hurt.... '

I gasped when I saw shifted werewolf claws digging into Troy's hands. It looked painful... I watched the blood start dripping down the sill and clapped a hand over my mouth to keep from crying. I tried to speak but Troy just kept shouting orders at me... He wanted me to get Terry and Liam. 'They can help!' Lilac whined.

I rushed out of the room and down the stairs. "Help! Help!" I screamed as I ran into the kitchen. Thankfully Terry and Liam were both sitting at the table.

"What happened?" Terry stood up from his seat.

"There were claws... the alpha... someone is attacking Troy! They got up to the window and were digging into his hands... there was blood..." I sniffled, feeling a huge wave of pain hit me at the thought of Troy being hurt.

"Liam stay with her, I'll go help the alpha. Mind link the warriors to come to the pack house" Terry ordered before racing out of the room.

"Come on we have to get to the safe room" Liam said as he rushed over and grabbed my hand. I felt scared and worried for Troy as he dragged me into the basement and locked us both in a concrete room. "We'll be safe here" Liam panted as he leaned against the wall. "Did you see who it was?" He asked.

"No" I shuddered as I took a seat on the floor. "They were in wolf form and Troy was being hurt... how did they get up to a second story window?" I sniffled.

"It's going to be fine. Troy is a strong alpha... he can handle one wolf " Liam said as he walked over and sat beside me.

"I'm scared... there was blood and the claws looked so sharp.. what if it's him? What if it's Chase and he's after me?" I shook violently in fear.

"Hey... it's going to be fine. Troy would never let him get you again" Liam rubbed my arm to reassure me.

"That's the problem... I know Chase won't stop until he has me and I know that Troy would die for me... what if... what if he kills him?" I started sobbing.

Liam pulled me into a hug, "I mind linked the warriors to come and help. Troy will be fine. He has you to fight for...".

"But-" I started.

"Why don't we mind link Terry and ask what's going on?" Liam suggested and I nodded.

I focused on taking a wall down in my mind and slowly heard the voices come into my head. 'Terry what is the status? Who is the attacker?' I heard Liam.

'It's Chase. He pulled Troy out the window... they both fell pretty hard but Alpha seems to be okay. It looks like they're going to have a one on one challenge for this pack since Chase didn't bring back up' Terry explained and my heart sunk.

'Please don't let Chase kill him' I thought.

'I won't luna. The alpha is in good hands and the battle hasn't started yet' Terry answered.

'Are you sure he came alone?' Liam asked.

'It seems like it but I have guards searching the border just in case' Terry replied.

'Okay... be careful out there and keep us updated' Liam said before disconnecting the mind link.

"Can I mind link Troy too?" I asked desperately.

"No... he needs to focus to win the battle against Chase" Liam sighed.

"Please... I need to know he's okay" I begged.

"Okay fine but it has to be quick" Liam raised an eyebrow and I nodded.

'Troy?' I tested the mind link to see if I had him.

'Lu? Are you okay? Did Liam take you somewhere safe?' He replied and I let out a shakey breath.

'Yes I'm fine... Liam is here with me. I wanted to make sure you were okay... I saw blood' I replied.

'I'm okay. We fell out the window but I promise I will take care of this Lu. Just focus on staying safe and I'll come find you when it's done' Troy said.

'Okay.... please be careful Troy. Come back to me... I... I need you' I wanted to tell him I loved him but it didn't seem right to do through a mind link.

'I will. Stay safe love' Troy replied before the mind link was cut.

"I'm scared Liam...." I sniffled. "He said he is okay but I saw the blood and I'm worried that Chase will-" I started crying again. "I should have told him I loved him" I was instantly filled with regret.

"You'll have a chance to tell him after. Troy will come back for you, I just know it" Liam said as he rubbed my back.

"I wish I was there with him..I wish I could help" I cried.

"You are helping by staying here where it's safe. The alpha wouldn't be able to focus on the fight if he was distracted because he is worrying about your safety" Liam explained somberly.

"I know... it just feels like this is all ny fault... Chase is here because of me and if he dies..." I mumbled.

"He won't die Lu. He is the strongest alpha I know. And none of this is your fault... Chase is just some crazy wolf who wouldn't let you move on after he rejected you. I mean the reason he wants you is just to benefit his pack. It makes me sick!" Liam said angrilly.

"Thank you Liam" I said. "I'm really glad you're here".

"It's my job to protect you. I would rather be here and keep you safe than anywhere else. After all, what else are best friends for?" Liam smiled at me and I nodded at him.

"I would do the same for you" I replied.

"I know you would luna" Liam said as he hugged me tighter to his chest.
