The Heart Sees

Chapter 19

Troy's P.O.V

I collapsed on my back, feeling the last of the mate bond severing. It was the same pain I felt 3 years ago when Martha was killed in front of me. My breathing came out in pants as I felt Liam and Terry come up to me, each of them grabbing one of my hands. "Troy you have to get up" Terry said shakily.

"Alpha please... we need to go get Lu back!" Liam pleaded.

"I...." I struggled to breathe as they watched me with sad expressions.

"They may have taken her mark but he didn't leave his own mark on her. There is still time if we hurry!" Terry explained.

"It all hurts...." I cried as I clutched their hands tightly.

"I know but the pack needs you... we need you..." Terry said.

"Lu needs you now more than ever, you can't give up on her!" Liam growled.

I looked up at the sky blankly, thinking of Lu. Even though I couldn't see I imagined her... her laugh, her smile, the way she might look. Memories of our short time together played in my mind. We had only known each other a few weeks but she had already become so important to me. She didn't care about my blindness... she still wanted me. Even with my past and a previous mate, she overlooked it all and chose to be with me.

I prayed to the moon goddess to protect her and that she would be safe, but as usual I got no reply. "Please.... we have to go now" Liam begged. It was nice that she had such good and loyal friends.

I forced myself to sit up, my body feeling like it had been hit by a truck, "I'm sorry Lu" I mumbled sadly. Liam and Terry helped me stand up and many of the warriors had already run ahead to try and free their Luna. "I don't know if I have the strength to fight them" I admitted weakly.

"You have to fight them... for her" Terry said sternly. "You need to snap out of this. She isn't dead, at least not yet, this isn't the same as with Martha. You still have a chance here!" He yelled.

As usual Terry always knows what to say to get me back to normal. I shook my head, trying to get the cloudy feeling out of my mind.

"Go get mate. Mate is ours!' Brax screamed at me. 'Fight!'

'I'll need your strength for this Brax' I replied.

'We can do this together!' Brax encouraged me.

The first few steps I took were shakey, but then I started to run. I ran as fast as I could, Liam and Terry beside me as I jumped up, shifting into Brax mid-air before landing on my paws. I let out a howl, alerting my pack that I was coming. Now that the sadness had mostly passed, the rage started to seep in. White, hot rage stronger than I had ever felt

'I'm coming Lu!' I thought to myself as I prayed that he hadn't hurt her too badly yet.

We ran until we reached Chase's pack territory. There were no wolves out on the street so I assume that Chase is back and has ordered everyone to stay inside. We made our way to what looked like the pack house, assuming he would be there. We busted the door in and started searching the house... they were here because I could smell Lu's sweet scent, but it was faint, meaning they hadn't stayed long.

I sniffed around and found that her scent was strongest at a door. I opened it and went down, sniffing around carefully. The room felt cold and damp, probably a basement of some sort. I felt around with my paws, feeling an old battered up pillow. I froze as I realized that this was her room.... "there were pillows.." Lu's voice echoed inside my head.

I kept feeling around and found nothing else but some rags. I perked my ears up at the sound of other wolves and growled. 'It's just Liam and I, the house is empty' Terry said in my mind.

'This is where they kept her... she lived here" I told them and they both growled.

'This isn't an acceptable room! It's so cold and damp down here and completely empty except for a pillow and some rag that she probably used as a blanket!' Liam raged.

'Where do you think they went?' Terry asked calmly.

'I don't know... maybe a neighbouring pack or an ally they have took them in?' I questioned as I sniffed, inhaling Lu's scent to calm myself so I could think clearly.

'I'll go back and get a list of the neighbouring packs and any allies that might be helping them' Terry explained.

'We need your help to search though' Liam whined, 'I can go back' he added.

'No, I know where everything is so I can be back faster. You two keep looking, they couldn't have gotten far' Terry said sternly before walking back up the stairs.

'Let's go' I said as Liam followed me out of the room. I kept following Lu's scent, trying to pick it up again througbout the pack grounds.

'Alpha we found one of the pack members who claims they saw the alpha' a warrior mind linked me and I felt some hope.

I ran quickly, following their directions and scent. "Where did they go?" I growled after having just shifted into my human form.

"There is a rogue camp nearby up in the mountains. It's heavily guarded and hard to break in to, but I am sure that is where the alpha is headed" a strange voice explained.

"He is working with the rogues?" I asked angrilly.

"I don't know. The camp is said to be abandoned, but there could be rogues still living there" the voice thought out loud.

"Why are you helping us?" I asked, not sure if I could trust the strange wolf.

"I don't like the way alpha runs this pack... I have been wanting to leave for a while now, but had nowhere to go" they said sadly.

"If this information is right and you helped save my mate and Luna of the Evergreen pack, you are free to join" I stated confidently. "But if your information is a lie or a trick you will pay with your life" I growled and smelled the fear come off of the strange wolf.

"I swear on my life that I am not lying to you alpha" the wolf said as it rustled around, most likely bowing. "I was unaware that she was your Luna or I would have tried harder to stop them. I am sorry alpha" they added.

"You'll be kept in a room back at my pack until this information is checked. Don't think about escaping... things could still go well for you if you're telling the truth and I don't hurt innocent people" I said calmly yet threateningly.

"Yes alpha" the strange wolf said quietly and I nodded in the direction where I smelled a couple of my warriors to take the wolf back to the pack house.

"Where are all of your fellow pack members?" I questioned as they were taking the wolf away.

"The alpha came through like a mad man. He said if any of us came out onto the streets we would be in danger. He told us all to stay inside, even the warriors, except for the beta and the ones he took with him" the wolf answered and I nodded to the warriors to take the wolf away.

"Alpha, I will keep searching the pack lands with a few warriors if you want to go check out the information?" Liam asked hesitantly.

"Agreed. I will take the majority of the warriors and head up the mountain. Liam and a few others will stay behind to search here and wait for Beta Terrance. Once the beta has returned and you are sure she is not here, head back to the pack for protection. There are only a few warriors back home and I don't want to leave the pack undefended" I ordered and a bunch of people responded with 'yes alpha' before proceeding to follow my orders.

"The doors are all locked alpha!" Liam shouted during the search. "No one will come out and they won't talk to us".

"This is a waste of time" one of the warriors complained.

"Keep looking! There may be more clues here" I ordered.

I really hope that this strange wolf is telling the truth and not leading me into a trap... but what other choice do I have?

I'm coming for you Lu!
