Chapter The Wolves' Legend

Max POV

I was having the time of my life teaching the little one how to shift. While we were like that, we were getting closer and strengthening the mate bond. “If you get down on all fours for the first time, it will be easier, Julie. Later you might learn how to shift mid-air, but I have to say only Alphas do that. Other wolves usually crouch down and shift.”

I smiled at her encouraging her to do it, but all Ares and I wanted to do with her in that position were mate her again. Ares was restless. He wanted to be let out to play. “Can you give me a minute, Ares? I am trying to teach her how to shift here, buddy. You know how important it is.” He sat there on my mind impatiently, as always. ”I want to come out, Max! Yesterday was not enough. You got back control in the morning without asking.”

I snorted. “I do not need your permission, Ares. Now quiet until she shifts, and I might let you out to play later.” He groaned. “It is always later for me, right, Max? Never me first.” I paid him no mind and crouched down to help her. “It will not hurt this time, Julie. You do not have to be scared. It is natural! Concentrate on the beautiful Aphrodite form, and it will come.”

Julie took a deep breath and closed her eyes to concentrate. The shift started slowly but progressed. Ares finally quieted down and felt pleased that she was doing it. When I saw the stunning white fur, a euphoric voice came on the mindlink telling me how glad she was. “I did it, Max. I did it.” I laughed at her voice. The sound was so young and fresh, like she was a pup learning it for the first time.

But it only took her a few seconds to land on her face, and I had to suppress the need to laugh hard it was amusing. Ares, on the other hand, didn’t do the same. He was laughing in my mind. “Now, you must learn how to stand and walk, little wolf.” I told her that while petting her soft fur. She looked at me, and I felt love pulsing on the mate bond. It was coming from her.

“Come on, Ares. Let’s show our little mate how to do it.” Of course, Ares and I had to show off, and we jumped and shifted in two seconds in the air. Sure she would be impressed by our skills. I nudged her with my snout, helping her stand. Her legs were wobbly like she was on the ice, but I held her with my body. “Julie. Use your front paws first to move and the ones on the back to keep you on the ground first. Then, the back paws will follow. We can go slowly.” I moved slowly for her to see, and she copied it without returning her face to the ground.

I chucked. “There we go, you are doing it.” We started our journey slowly towards the beach, and I always kept my body beside hers. My body was nudging her back up when she began to lose balance. “How is that for a perfect mate, Ares? Thinking of everything possible before it even happens.” He shook his head. “You learned everything from me, Kid!”

Before we knew we had arrived at the beach and were leaving our footprints on the soft white sand. “We should shift back to get into the water, Julie. You will enjoy it more in human form. It will be just as before, but now concentrate on your human form, and it will come.”

She took a while longer to shift than I did, and when I saw her body lying on the sand, I carried Julie to the water. The water was not cold yet. In the snowy winter months, it gets freezing. Julie held my neck tight when she saw we were getting deeper into it. “You can relax your body to enjoy it. I won’t drop you.” I knew she still did not trust me entirely, and it was all my fault for not connecting with her as soon as Ares stared at her for the first time.

But Julie needed to learn to trust the mate bond and follow her instincts, or her transition would be difficult. I felt her body relaxing in my arms after my words and I comforted her through the bond. “The water is peaceful, Max and...” She giggled. “Salty.” It was comforting how playful she was. She had never experienced the simple things in life, and I would always hate Michael for taking them from her. We are wolves, and nature is everything to us.

I walked into the Ocean till the water was covering my shoulders with her body tightened against mine. My little koala was what she was now, and I was getting fond of the proximity. We mated again with the waves rocking us, and the Alpha inside me prayed to the Moon Goddess that she would deliver my pups soon. For an Alpha, it did not take more than the first mating for that to happen. But as she was weak before, I was not sure.

We stayed in the water with her wrapped around my body for a long time, and I thought it would be nice to let Ares and Aphrodite out to enjoy the afternoon. “We should let the wolves out, Julie. Ares wants to spend some more time with Aphrodite.” She nodded her small head and kissed me. “Sure. Aphrodite feels the same.” Julie’s sweet voice was like a melody to my ear now.

“Don’t expect me to thank you, kid. You are not doing me any favours. I am entitled to spend time with our mate as much as you.” Ares delivered his speech in a perfect Alpha position. “I know Ares enough of complaining today. I am giving you control to enjoy our mate.”

Not even a second later, Ares hugged and kissed Julie before tasting Aphrodite.

3rd Person POV

Aphrodite had her head lying on Ares’ lap, watching the peaceful waves coming and going. The sunny day made the soft sand very warm for them to enjoy. Ares played with her hair while sucking in everything she had told him. Their past, their many lives together.

“How long do you think we will be together this time, my love?” Ares was anxious that they would not have together longer. Aphrodite sat on the sand and put a hand on his face calming him. Her pink eyes sparkled. She adores him.

“You are the God of War, Ares. I made you stronger this time. You will protect us against anything, my love.” She sweetly kissed him, making Ares feel her love and looked into his eyes when the kiss ended. “No one has ever measured up to what you are to me, Ares. We will always be together.”

“Why do I keep forgetting about our past, Aphrodite?” She smiled at him. His memories were erased from that life, and every time he had died as an Alpha. Aphrodite would never tell him that when he died in their other life, he was no longer in love with her, and she had to trick Selene into making them mates for eternity. “Don’t worry about it, Ares. I will always remind you. We are soulmates.”

She cleaned the sand from his face. “They will come for me to hurt you; they always have. I can feel they are getting closer, Ares. But this time, they will not win. You will protect me, and we will have our pups. Like we had when we were Gods. You and I will live longer in these bodies, and Max and Julie will be happy together.”

Aphrodite longed for the day they would continue their lineage. She remembered every loving day they spent together as lovers and was tired of waiting for him repeatedly. The separation and the waiting for them to find themselves again were exhausting. Every time they finally settled as an Alpha and Luna, someone came to take them apart. They had lived many lives together, and she hoped this time they would have eternity.

Anger crossed his body. He held her shoulders. “Who wants to take you from me, my love? Who wants to hurt us? Tell me, and I will kill them all now.” Ares’ voice was angry and powerful. He would do anything to keep them together. No one would dare to take her from him.

“When you died, I promised Selene if she made us one again, we would always protect the wolfkind, and we have been doing precisely that since we turned wolves. You protected them from evil, many rogues wanting to rise to our position and power-hungry wolves that are unsatisfied with how Selene made them.”

She held his hand. “They want to take what does not belong to them, and you, my love, never let them. As you will not let when we finally have our twins in this world, that will come to try to erase humankind.” Ares could see that her face had determination, and she was proud of him for being brave.

Ares held both sides of her face, the glow and love in his eyes were contagious. “You are mine, Aphrodite, do you understand? Mine! Nobody will ever take you from me.” His powerful voice said the phrases she loved so much to hear, and with his lips pressed against hers, a dominating kiss sealed his words.

That was exactly what Aphrodite wanted all her life, to be his forever.

There you go, guys. Now you know their legend was correct. Aphrodite made sure they would be soulmates forever. Let’s hope this time nobody will take them apart. ❤️❤️❤️
