SWNOVELS Chapter What Do I Do Now
I ran from the pack house straight to Kam's throwing open the door and screaming her name.
"KAM! KAM WHERE ARE YOU?" Panic laced my tone as I ran around the house searching for her.
"Em? What's wrong?" She said with concern written all over he face.
"Where's Mik? We have to get out of here, now!" I grabbed a bag from her closet and rushed upstairs trying to fill it with as many clothes as I could.
She followed after me asking "What? Why? Are we under attack? Em stop! Tell me what's wrong."
I couldn't hear anything over my own heartbeat pounding in my ears and it wasn't until she pulled my hands away from her clothes that I realized she had been talking to me. I stared at her and my fathers words came rushing back in my mind making me more furious than before. I went back to shoving shit in her bag then ran for another as she stalked behind me begging me to talk to her. I ignored her as I packed two more bags then threw them over my shoulder and ran down the stairs.
She was on the phone in total dismay, talking to Mik when I went down into the basement heading for the safe. I had asked her years ago to keep some of my stuff there just in case I ever needed it to run away and I had been adding to it ever since. I reached the large metal box and entered the code. I heard it beep and unlock and I jerked the door open grabbing the cash that had been safely tucked away along with the set of silver daggers that my grandad had given me on my 15th birthday.
"Em if you don't tell me what's going on right n..."
"My father doesn't think I can run this pack so he wants me to take another Alpha's offer to combine our packs and be his marked mate."
She looked at me with big eyes then ran back up the stairs to the front room where Mik had just walked through the door. They both stood there waiting for an explanation but I didn't have time to waste explaining so I grabbed all the bags and walked out the front door turning to them both and said "I can't stay here if no one believes I can do a good job of running this pack and I refuse to be with someone who forces me to love him. Now you can come with me or you can remain trapped in this worthless place and go down with it!"
I turned and ran off the porch throwing the bags to the ground before I shifted into my beautiful auburn wolf. I grabbed one of the bags in my teeth and heard clothes tearing behind me as my two best friends shifted then rubbed up against me, letting me know they were with me. They each grabbed a bag and and waited for my command. I nodded and we took off into the woods behind her house. The end of the territory was just a few miles away and we couldn't get through the border without encountering the guards but we had always found a way before so this time wouldn't be any different.
We snuck up behind some bushes making sure to stay hidden and waited for a good amount of time to pass. After a few hours of sitting we noticed a break in the line and I nodded to them both telling them this was our chance. I sent Mik first, then Kam and finally I crept through but my tail whacked a bush causing the guards to rush to the area so we had to run for our lives. We heard the whistles but as stealthy as we three were they wouldn't catch up to us anytime soon, and luckily Kam had scent killer spray that we could douse ourselves with to ensure we didn't leave a trail.
We ran for miles before I decided it was safe to stop. I knew every tree and rock around our territory so I was well aware that we weren't anywhere near it anymore. We had crossed into human territory and we were in more danger here than on another packs land. Humans were relentless and hunted to kill us so we had to be extremely careful. I mind linked the girls to shift and change into clothes because it would be easier to just blend in, rather than to run in wolf from. After we sprayed ourselves with the masking spray we continued on.
We followed a gravel road for miles before an old farm truck came barreling by us and skidded to a stop a few yards in front of us. We all paused, ready to defend ourselves if we needed to, then watched as the door opened and a young girl stepped out. She was wearing torn up jeans and a plaid shirt with cowboy boots and a baseball cap. She was covered in grease and dirt but she had a sweet innocent look to her.
"Y'all need a ride?" She yelled over the roaring engine.
"Um, yes we do. Do you mind?" I said while looking at my two friends.
"Not if you don't mind squeezing."
They both looked skeptical but if we were going to get any further we needed some sort of transportation. We walked to the truck and slid into the front seat. It was more spacious than I thought but with the gear shift on the floor board I had to keep my legs pushed against Kam's. Mik had her arm hanging out the window and stared at the bare fields before us.
"Where y'all headed?"
I looked at the girls beside me who both had the same expression and replied "We're trying to get to Tennessee. We had a girls trip planned but our car broke down and we were just trying to get to town."
Kam pinched my leg causing me to flinch in pain looking at her with narrowed eyes. She rolled her eyes then shook her head. I shrugged my shoulders as if to say you had a better excuse?
"Tennessee! That's a nice place to relax and the mountains are so amazing. We have a few in Georgia but they aren't as pretty. I'm Everly by the way."
I smiled and said "Ember and these are my friends Kam and Mik." They both faked a smile and waved then turned back staring out the window.
These girls were so damn bratty sometimes. Besides I know how to read people and this girl wasn't giving off any strange vibes. She drove us into the small little city she called home and told us where we could take the bus into Atlanta which would take us to Tennessee. She was very timid and shy but she was nice and helped us out tremendously.
We arrived at the bus station and bought three tickets to Atlanta. I knew in my head this was the right thing to do but I hated to leave my family in this situation. Even though my father was being totally ridiculous about everything, I still loved them and I didn't want them to get hurt or worse.
The bus began loading and soon we were in our seats. I had no plan other than to get to Tennessee to my cousins pack and hope no one alerts anyone that we were gone or where we were.
