Chapter Safe Travels
The ride to Atlanta was long and bumpy and listening to those two bicker the whole way was driving me crazy.
"Kam if you don't stop talking to random people I swear I'm going to tape your mouth shut."
"Well you won't put your book down so I have to entertain myself somehow."
"I can't stop reading, I just got to the good part and besides you don't know these people. You're just too nice!"
"I can't help it."
"Try!"
My headache was getting worse and these seats were so uncomfortable that my neck had become sore. I tried to ignore the noise but everyone on the damn bus was talking and there were children screaming so I sat up and looked out the window.
"So, Alpha? What's the plan?"
I rolled my eyes at Mik's statement, she knew I couldn't stand being called that, especially since I never took over the roll officially nor will I ever now.
I sighed loudly and said "I don't know."
"WHAT?"
"You heard me. I don't have one but I know where we're going and I'll figure it out then"
"Don't worry Em! I trust you. You've never let us down before." Kam said as she patted my hand.
I smiled at them both feeling like the worst friend in the world, not only did I drag my best friends along with me but now I had no idea what we would do next. Sure my cousin would let us stay as long as we needed but was that something I wanted? Was that something that I could do to Mik and Kam? I uprooted their entire lives on a whim, sure they agreed but what if this wasn't enough for them, I didn't want to disrupt their lives anymore than I already had.
"Look girls if you want to go back I understand. I didn't mean to drag you two along after my tantrum. The truth is, I don't know what I'm going to do. I was angry and I couldn't stay there knowing my father didn't believe in me nor care about what I wanted. I know he thinks it's a good idea to marry me off and let someone more experienced handle the pack but it hurt too much to admit that to him."
"We ain't going nowhere, you're stuck with us." Mik said as she continued reading her book.
"Yeah it's not like we had anything tying us down at home anyway. Plus Tennessee has lots of trouble for us to get into!" Kam added.
I really didn't deserve their friendship but here they were giving up everything they've ever known to follow me. I still had no clue what we were going to do or how we were going to survive in another pack but one thing was for sure, we had each other.
Another few hours passed by and soon we had made it to our destination. The weather was hot and humid and I was thankful for the tank top and jean shorts that I was wearing. After we got our bags we needed some nourishment before we ran to the Red Water Pack. My cousin was expecting us at any time today and told me that the warriors were aware we would be entering at the Northern border where the Cascade Falls began.
As a kid I always loved going to my Uncle's pack because of the mountains and waterfalls. There wasn't a path I didn't take that I didn't stumble upon a creek or rocky cliff and I would spend the night camped out in the wild. The tall trees stretched up to the sky, opening up to the bright stars twinkling above and the moon shining magnificently. We never had to be worried because the land was extremely difficult to penetrate and Uncle Mark was such a well liked Alpha that no matter who entered, they became instant friends.
"We need to eat before we leave and I know an amazing Chinese place right down the road."
They both agreed and we began the walk towards town. We reached an older building decorated in red embellishments and two stone dragon pillars. The inside was dark and cozy and the delectable smell of honey chicken hung in the air. My mouth began salivating the further we walked into the room and when they sat us at the table I asked for an order of sweet Chile shrimp rolls while we looked over the menu.
Two hours and three insanely stuffed bellies later we were walking out the door ready for our new adventure. What we were about to enter into, we didn't know, but we had each other and that was enough for now.
Once we made it to the abandoned road, we ducked into the trees and undressed before we shifted to our wolves and began running in the thick covered forest towards the falls. This place hadn't changed a bit and I soon remembered why I loved it so much. I felt so free being here and I was never expected to do anything but just be a kid and play, no one to tell me I had to train or behave, just run free like the wolf I was. I inhaled deeply trying to remember this feeling inside me for as long as I could because from now on, it was what I wanted to memorize as my happy place.
We had just crossed the old creek bridge when I noticed a fallen tree in the clearing and a few deer bedded down next to it. I stopped quickly, signaling to Kam and Mik of the animals ahead and crouched down to my belly. We loved chasing animals although we never really killed any unless we were hunting, the thrill of being able to take them down with ease was more fun. They both crouched down and waited for me to tell them it was on. We watched carefully as they sat unsuspecting of the danger awaiting them when an enourmous dark grey wolf came bounding out of nowhere and captured one of the bigger deer in his jaws and ran off into the woods.
We all sat there in complete awe at the spectacular creature that had just came and gone in the blink of an eye. I was so amazed that I couldn't move but eventually we were pulled from our daydream when we heard the horrific sounds of the animals screams. Obviously whatever wolf that was just finished his meal and would soon be settling down with a full belly which gave us just enough time to run to the pack. I was sure that wasn't one of my uncles members because he didn't have their typical mulberry and musk scent so chances were he was a rogue and I wasn't ready for a fight tonight.
We finally made it to Cascade falls and I couldn't help but shift back and jump into the beautiful water before me. It was still warm from the afternoon sun but the shade of the overgrown trees up above me made it chilly once I returned to the surface. When I came up for air and opened my eyes there were six large wolves in front of me, I almost shit myself and I was immediately thankful for the fact that I was underwater.
They made it to Tennessee!!!!!
But what's up with the wolves? Rogues? Enemy pack?
What will the girls do?
