Chapter Trespassing
Kam and Mik immediately swam up behind me and switched to serious mode within seconds. We were potentially in enemy territory and being three unmarked she-wolves at the mercy of these six strangers was not good at all. I held my head high as I walked to the shore and up the embankment naked as the day I was born, modesty was never an issue for me so showing off what the goddess had given me was just as natural as wearing clothes.
I strutted up to the biggest wolf and stared him in the eyes, I may not be Alpha but my bloodline was extremely dominant and my confidence was exuding from me in waves. He backed down slightly, enough for me to know he respected me but unyielding to the female before him. He shook out his fur, sending his scent into the air and I knew he was from my uncles pack. The others did the same and barked in unison then turned around out of respect. When a wolf turns their back on an unknown of their kind this usually means they don't see you as a threat.
I turned to the girls and nodded, then shifted into my wolf waiting for them to do the same. Once we were ready I yelped and the six wolves took off as we followed. Soon we were crossing the border with an amped up escort, probably too much if you ask me, but my cousin was never one to do anything in a small way. Once my paws hit my uncles land I sprinted past the guards letting the wind blow in my face, bounding my way up to the pack house, seeing a certain cream colored wolf coming from the trees, and took advantage of my speed, pouncing on him. We rolled several times before I pinned him to the ground and licked his face then jumped off.
He rolled over, in complete surprise from my sneak attack then growled as I sat there laughing internally, he never could take losing to me. I shifted back to my human form as the rest of the guards, Kam and Mik stopped behind me. I grabbed some clothes from my bag and quickly dressed then turned around waiting for everyone else to do the same.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't little Emie Watson."
I hated that nickname and he knew it so when I turned around and glared at him he couldn't help but burst into a fit of laughter.
"Oh shut it, brace face Chase!" I shot back at him.
You could have sworn we were 10 again the way we teased each other but it was what we always did, whether he was the Alpha now or not. I ran up to him and gave him the biggest hug I could manage as he squeezed me back equally hard.
"Wow Em you've changed so much! I can't believe how much you've grown!" He said as he stepped back and looked at me.
"You don't look so bad yourself, Alpha Chase."
He chuckled and said "Come on, dads been waiting for your arrival."
I turned around to the girls, who were both damn near drooling at the blonde haired hunk next to me. He was definitely a ladies man, even when we were kids, all the girls were always jealous of how close we were. He was my brother from another mother, my first best friend, my family and nothing would ever change that.
"So where's you're mate?" I asked him bumping his shoulder while we walked.
He rubbed the back of his neck said "I haven't found her yet."
I looked at him in shock, surely one of these she-wolves around here was his destined companion. But he just continued looking down at the ground and I didn't want to push the issue any further. For him it was always this big dream that he and his mate would find each other and once the feeling hit he would mark her as his own instantly. He was a big romantic and I couldn't help but feel bad for him. I on the other hand didn't care if I ever found mine, I always had the mindset that I didn't need a partner to be complete, that's why I made sure I could take care of myself no matter what.
We reached the pack house and just stepping inside make my mood lift immediately. This felt like home to me, it always did because no matter what, everyone inside these walls made you feel special. From the housekeeper who made your bed just the way you liked it, to the cook who knew how you wanted your eggs, and even the way your laundry always kept you calm with the smells of lavender and eucalyptus.
"EMBER!" I heard my aunt scream from the top of the stairs and I couldn't stop myself from running up them and crashing into her.
"Aunt Penelope! I've missed you so much." She was such a great Luna, one that I looked up to my entire life, more than my mother.
She held me at arms length and looked me up and down before she pulled me back into another hug. "Ember you've grown up so much since we've seen you last. It's been too long since you've visited."
I felt the sadness rippling off of her and I knew she felt horrible for what happened between her and my mother but it wasn't her fault. She was always so supportive of my choices and my mother couldn't stand it so when I returned home from my summer vacation she forbid me from ever going back. It wasn't until years later that I found out why. They haven't talked or seen each other in almost 13 years and I knew with my moms stubborn streak that she would hold this grudge until the day she died.
"Where's Uncle Mark?" I asked before a large hand tapped me on the back.
I turned around and came face to chest with the 6ft 5in man who always treated me like a princess. I wrapped my arms around his stomach and inhaled his distinctive scent as he patted my head. "Hey now, you already know you're my favorite niece."
I released him and couldn't help the smile that crept along my face. "You have grown into such a lovely young lady, Ember. We've missed you!" He said as he kissed my cheek.
"Uncle Mark, Aunt Penelope, I want to introduce you to my friends." I lead them downstairs as everyone finally made it inside.
I reached the bottom steps as Kam and Mik walked over to me with huge smiles on their faces, they liked it here and I knew they would.
"Uncle Mark and Aunt Penelope, this is Kam and Mik."
"Welcome girls, we are so glad to meet you and please make yourselves at home." She said as she gave them each a hug.
"You will have free range of the entire property, Ember knows all the borders but I have arranged for Chase to give you a proper tour tomorrow morning. I know you are probably tired but dinner will be ready at 7. Let me show you to your rooms." Uncle Mark grabbed our bags and walked up the stairs leading us to our rooms, giving us the entire third floor to ourselves.
After I settled in, I fell on the bed and stared up at the ceiling, wondering if my parents had realized I was gone yet and hoped that they didn't come looking for me. I didn't want to go back and I don't think I ever would.
Isn't she so lucky to have such an amazing family that she can turn to?
What do you think her mom and Aunt are fighting about?
Do you think her parents are worried? Or will they be mad that she ran away?
