The Beta and Her Omega / Old Version ✔️

Chapter Nineteen | Mother's Instincts

Xenia walked with a frown on her face. Her emotions got the better of her again as she kept her eyes down low. The Werefoxes all walked in front of her as she decided to stay back just in case of stragglers. They needed to keep the group together and the only way they could do that was for her to stay behind.

Vincent had already gone back to the Pack to get Jack and prepare the Packhouse for new guests. Her gut was still screaming at her as she did not know what to do anymore.

He was her mate, he was one hundred percent, completely hers, and yet, he felt like a stranger. He felt like someone that she should fear and that was all because of that one look. She not only wanted, but she needed to know his past and why he looked at her the way he did but she was scared.

Xenia knew all too well that sometimes the truth was best left unknown but then the mate thing came back to her again. They were paired for a reason and despite that reason being unknown, she still had a right as a mate to know. She just did not know how to approach the topic and Lola being quiet inside of her mind was not helping.

“There you are Cupcake!” Jack cheered, coming up beside her as she broke the treeline last. The Werefoxes looked around in amazement as they had never seen this side of the Pack before. “I am sorry.”

Xenia raised an eyebrow, shaking off her thoughts as she just wanted to ignore the inevitable for as long as possible. “Sorry for what? This could not have been helped, prevented but not helped.”

“True.” He shrugged as Xenia’s eyes noticed a tired-looking Grace holding her stomach, coming towards them. “I just do not know what to say. All of this was a massive shock to the system.”

“I do not feel very good.” Grace butted in, her little arms wrapping around Xenia as she found herself picking the kid up. “My wolf is acting weird.”

Xenia’s eyes turned to Jack as they stood by the Packhouse. April and Vincent soon joined them as Xenia rubbed Grace’s stomach to try and help. “What is the matter with her?” April questioned while she eyed the group of Werefoxes. “There are a few cuties in that stew.”

“Hey!” Jack whined, glaring out all the male werefoxes. “What about me?”

April shrugged, her response not pleasing him as he growled. Her giggles of happiness came out as she ran away from him knowing that he was going to chase after her. Xenia felt her heart drop as she was left with Vincent on her own, feeling awkward as she turned her eyes back down to Grace. “Do you know what caused this?”

Grace shook her head. “I just smell something funny. It smells really nice, and I want to find it.”

Xenia stood for a moment, her eyes looking away from Grace as she surveyed their surroundings. The Werefoxes were all looking sad and angry as her eyes crossed over Jesse and his dad before she did a double take. Her eyes catching Jesse staring at Grace with a look of adoration and want.

“I think I have your answer.” She felt herself speak as she held Grace tighter. “That is impossible. They are both too young to know!”

Vincent made himself fully known as he noticed how upset she was getting. Grace is still looking up at her in confusion. “I... I do not understand what you mean.”

Xenia growled, her refusal of letting Grace go getting more and more intense as she noticed Jesse’s dad putting the pieces together. “They are too young to be mates!”

Her raging words caused Grace to widen her eyes, turning her gaze towards the direction that Xenia was looking before she gasped. “Mate!”

“Hell no, he is not!” Xenia yelled, Jesse, trying to come towards them but his dad held him back. “This is physically impossible. They are children, this shit does not happen until you are sixteen and even then, that is still too young!”

“X... Xenia.” Vincent stuttered, his eyes going back and forth between them all. “You have to let her go. S... she is not your daughter.”

Xenia shot her gaze towards him, her heart tightening at the realisation that she was being over-protective, over a child that was not her own. “That is beside the point, Vincent! She has nobody to protect her, I need to protect her!”

He took in her words, his eyes flashing with admiration before he nodded. Walking towards Jesse as his father instinctively held his son back. Vincent talked to the father for a few minutes before he let Jesse go, Jesse taking Vincent’s hand before all three of them walked over.

Xenia held her breath, Grace staying quiet for once as she softly shook in fear. “I just have a few questions to ask.” Vincent started, Jesse softly nodding while he stared into Grace’s eyes. “Do you plan on breaking her heart?”

That question stumped her as she found her eyes widening, staring at the side of Vincent’s face while Jesse shook his head. “No sir!”

“Do you have any bad intentions at all for her?” He questioned next, Jesse’s dad standing there with a shocked expression that matched Xenia’s own. “We just need to know this stuff because we are the only ones that Grace has in this world.”

“Grace,” Jesse muttered, his eyes flashing a dark colour before he smiled. “I will love her forever and ever and ever!”

Grace squealed, her sudden sound giving Xenia a fright as her little body made it out of her arms. Grace runs up to Jesse before throwing herself at him. “Best mate ever!”

Jesse stumbled, his face turning red as they both ran off. His dad was still standing in his place before he shook his head. “After everything that has happened, I am glad that he has found light in this dark time.”

“You will find yours again,” Xenia commented, she did not know what else to say as he smiled softly and walked away. Her eyes still trailing the two kids as she wondered what it would be like to be so innocent and naive again.

She missed those days all too much.
