The Alpha King’s Virgin by Charmeleon Chapter 109
Chapter 109
Except for the blaring of the alarm, the room went silent as Amaris told them of my resolve to stay by his side during the battle. All eyes turned to us.
“Are you sure about this, Your Majesty?” Ross was the first to voice his concerns. His eyes flitted over my body and for a mad moment, I remembered his mouth on mine. It made me feel incredibly guilty to think about that now.
Dear Goddess, have I lost my mind? I stared out at the gardens beyond the throne room to gather my senses.
Amaris fixed him with a deadly stare. “Are we wasting time second guessing your king, or are we preparing for a battle?” There was no mistaking the authority in his soft tone.
Ross and the others lowered their head submissively, “No, of course not, Your Majesty.”
A soft knock at the double doors interrupted the tense atmosphere in the room.
“Enter!” Amaris called out.
Joanna and Pippa stood in the doorway. “Queen Magus, your coven is here to offer their support.” Joanna announced, much to everyone’s surprise, including my own.
I heard the elders murmur uneasily amongst themselves. “Queen Magus?”
“The coven is here?” I looked at Amaris, who grinned back at me.
“You are their leader now. I suppose it’s only right.” Amaris took my hand and together we followed Joanna and Pippa out to meet the witches. Ross and Lord Greyson were right behind us.
“I think we’ve missed some crucial information, Your Majesty.” Ross quickened his steps to catch up with us. “Care to indulge me?”
“Patience, Ross. You’ll soon find out.” Amaris cut him short. “Today will be the end of an old era.”
Amaris‘ words sent a shiver down my spine as the visions from my dream haunted me in a flash of memory. Death and destruction, bloodied bodies torn to shreds, and I was the cause.
“Are you alright, my love?” Amaris husky voice next to my ear pulled me out of the vision. His frown deepened as he touched my face. “You look pale.”
I smiled, though it was tentative. “I’m fine.”
All six of the witches were there waiting for us in the vast entrance hall. As soon as we approached, they sank down on their knees with their heads bowed. I noticed their long, flowing robes. It was their traditional dress. Pippa and Joanna joined them.
“Please stand.” I didn’t know what they expected of me, being new to this.

I met Willa’s frosty glare as they got to their feet. Her displeasure was obvious. I wasn’t getting her forgiveness any time soon.”
Queen Magus, we are here to offer our assistance to you and your mate.” Joyce stepped forward to speak on behalf of the coven.
“Sire, I don’t want to seem disrespectful, but we need much more than a handful of…” he waved a large hand at the group of witches, failing to find the most fitting description.
“Witches?” I filled it in for him before he said something he might regret.
“You forget how much Joanna helped us the previous time, Lord Greyson. She single–handedly blasted them out of the sky.” Amaris pinched the bridge of his nose. His patience wore thin.
“Shouldn’t we get the Elf King involved? Surely…”
“There is no time. Don’t you have warriors to brief?” He dismissed Lord Greyson with a raised brow, clearly demonstrating his annoyance.
“Thank you, Joyce. Amaris and I appreciate your help.” I let my gaze travel over the seven witches. “All of you. I need your guidance as well. Quindin’s power is flowing through me, but I have yet to learn to what extent I can use it.”
“Without putting your life at risk, both of your lives,” Amaris said, stroking my belly tenderly..
protect Queen Raine at any cost, Your Majesty.” Joyce reached out to touch my hand and I let her. “We owe it to Quindin.” She looked down at her feet for a moment and I felt the sadness: emanating from her, from most of them. They loved him.
Well, there were exceptions. Willa was definitely one of them. I caught her sneer.
“I think being on the ramparts would give us a strategic advantage,” Ross reasoned, and Amarist agreed.
“Yes, let us not waste any more time.” Scarcely had I uttered those words when the castle doors. burst open to admit a breathless scout.
“Your Majesties! The villages are on fire! The dragons are coming!”
We ran up to the ramparts and the first image we saw was that the sky had turned crimson, followed by acrid smoke billowing into the sky. It was as if Hell itself had descended цроп the valley below. Silently, we stood and watched the destruction.
Amaris growled low, his hand of the hilt of his sword. I felt his frustration at not being there to protect the other packs. Ross was beside him on the right side and me on the left. I reached for his hand, squeezing it reassuringly.
He looked at me with pain
Written on the lines on his face. I knew his concern was for me, but

already I felt the power growing, growing from the soles of my feet, ever upwards until I felt overflowing with it. A light green hue danced around my body, like arctic fire.
At first they were tiny specs in the distance but soon they came closer, more visible, their leathery wings stirring the wind, carrying with them the stench of sulfurous smoke. They were terrifying creatures, but still somehow beautiful–their scales gleaming like precious gems in the sunlight. Beautiful but deadly.
“Raine…”
I stood mesmerized, staring at them, and they were gaining on us. Heading straight for the ramparts. I could see smoke coming out of their nostrils. Fiery breath would follow soon.
“Raine!” Amaris shouted, a tremor of fear in his voice. He drew his sword, and Ross did the same.
The trance broken, my hands shot out and a white light surrounded us. Without thinking about it, I had conjured a force field around us. The dragon shifters collided against it and dropped to the ground. They tried to penetrate it with their fire blast, but it held.
Down below, the shouts and sounds of battle soared up to us as the dragon shifters descended on
the wolves.
“I have to be there!” Amaris growled out, swinging around. I heard his heart racing as he listened to those sounds.
“Then go! The coven will protect me!” I shouted at him. As much as I wanted him with me, he had. to lead the warriors. His presence would strengthen them.
The witches surrounded me; I felt their power strengthening mine. But for how long? How long would I be able to last? The dragons kept coming and there was still no sign of the Dragon Lord or
