Secret Scion

Chapter 150 -

Willy the Kid did not think too much about it and told Rose directly, "I had Huxley frame Asher for having an illicit relationship with a female relative of the Crawford household."

Screech!

Rose stepped on the brakes immediately and then looked at her back mirror in shock. "What did you say?! That's the great plan you thought of?!"

Even Rose was taken aback. What kind of solution was that?!

Willy the Kid quickly said, "I was being backed into a corner by Huxley at the time, my lady. I was so stressed out that I spouted anything I could think of. I didn't expect him to think that what I said was reasonable."

"What a disaster this is!" Rose said angrily. She believed that, as humans, they must have a bottom line in everything they do. Asher's reputation would be completely ruined if they were to use such a scheme to frame him. He would never be able to recover ever again. The Knights' household.

After Layla returned from the Crawfords, she was still thinking about the interaction between her and Asher when he dragged her away. She blushed subconsciously, and her eyes became clouded with mixed feelings.

Her family was eating dinner when she returned. When Sophia saw Layla return, she then said with a smile, "Layla, I saved some for you. Wash your hands and come join us."

"It's alright, Mom. I'm not hungry. Just eat without me." After saying that, Layla went back to her

room.

Sophia was someone very sensitive. As Layla's mom, she could naturally feel that something was wrong with Layla. There seemed to be a hint of affection in her eyes. Could it be that she had a boyfriend?

Mr. Knight also gave Layla a glance. He was also someone that had lived a long life and experienced its many marvels. He was already able to tell what was roughly happening on his

own.

After dinner, Mr. Knight then said to Sophia, "There's something wrong with Layla lately. She keeps on going to the Crawfords, and she's been going there too frequently."

The way that Mr. Knight framed his sentence was quite thought-provoking. Just as Sophia was trying to discern what he was trying to say, Mr. Knight continued, "At her age, she should know that she has to maintain some distance."

Sophia nodded and said, "I'll ask Layla about later and see what's going on."

Mr. Knight nodded and then left.

Sophia was not sure what Mr. Knight was trying to say. She then asked her husband to join her in their room, and repeated to him what Mr. Knight had said. She then asked, "What do you think Dad was trying to say? Could it be that dad suspects Layla and someone from my side of the family...?"

"Nonsense!" Sophia's husband said with a glare. "The Crawfords are part of your family too. There's nothing wrong with Layla paying them visits more frequently. I think both of you are too bored, and you're getting paranoid because of all the free time you have."

Sophia thought so too. However, what did her father-in-law mean when he said that? Sophia then sat down and said, "Honey, it has been almost 25 years since that happened. Layla was only two years old then, and she's almost 27. We're reaching the 25-year mark that we've promised. If that person's still alive, he will come back for her soon. We've raised Layla for so long. I can't bear to see her leave," Sophia's eyes became red as tears began to form when she said that.

"Why are you bringing this up? Even if Layla's birth parents don't take her away, she'll still marry someone, so she'll have to leave our household eventually," he said.

"How can those two be the same? If Layla's father takes her away, when can we see her again? Honey, I won't agree to Layla leaving us."

"Alright, let's not talk about this anymore. We'll leave this to fate," he continued.

After Sophia had regained her composure, she then went to Layla's bedroom. She gave it a

knock and said, "Layla, there's something I want to talk about. Can I come in?" "Come in, Mom."

When Sophia opened the door and went in, she saw Layla lying on her bed holding her blanket. "What is it, Mom?"

Sophia smiled and sat down on the bed and said, "Layla, you'll be 27 years old soon. You're a woman now. When a woman has grown up, it's normal for her to find a husband. When I was your age, I was already married to the Knights."

Only then did Layla realize that Sophia was there to talk about marriage. "Mom, you don't have to be worried about me. I simply haven't met someone that suits me."

Sophia smiled and said, "Well, why don't you tell me what kind of person you like? Height, build, age, personality... Give me something. If I find someone, I'll introduce you to him. You're not young anymore, and a woman can only be youthful for so long. Once you're too old, it will no longer be up to you."

Very few people knew about Layla's origin.

Sophia had no children of her own, and so she adopted Layla. She was only two years old then. Her biological father said that he would come back for Layla in 25 years.

The promised time would soon arrive. Sophia really could not bear seeing Layla being taken away. That was why she hoped that Layla could get married soon. Even if her birth father were to come for her, Layla would have to think about her family. Perhaps, she would not choose to leave Alexandrius then.

However, Layla was not sure what Sophia was thinking.

When Sophia asked her about it, she was not sure why but a man appeared in Layla's mind. He was of a svelte build, had a handsome face and would always carry a naughty grin.

It was Asher.

Layla Knight, what are you thinking about?! Why are you thinking about him?!

Layla's face blushed as she mentally screamed at herself for being so shameless. She then

quickly said, "Mom, are you tired of looking at me? Are you really my real mother?"

Layla was simply joking around, but she did not expect that it would hurt Sophia. Her mood was instantly spoiled as she turned around and left.

"Was it something I said?" Layla blinked as she was not sure what had happened.

Meanwhile, Huxley was thinking about what Willy the Kid had said. Perhaps his desire to become

the patriarch was too strong, so his desire quickly overcame his rational thoughts and he planned to do what Willy the Kid had suggested.

However, how should he choose the victim?

The Crawfords had always been a household blessed with a lot of boys. In Huxley's generation, there were only three girls in their entire family. The eldest was Amber Crawford, who was

currently only in the tenth grade.

"You've finished work, Huxley?"

Huxley had just entered his courtyard when Amber's voice came from not far away. She was wearing a pair of jeans and her hair was neatly tied behind her head as she wore a happy smile on her face. Huxley's heart was moved as he said with a smile, "Do you have a lot of homework lately? Try not to burn the midnight oil. It's not good for your health."

When his love for his family moved his heart, he hesitated again. He could not allow his younger sisters to be the victims no matter what. Otherwise, there was no difference between him and an animal.

"Thanks for asking. I rarely burn the midnight oil," Amber said with a grin. "Oh, right. Since tomorrow's the weekend, Layla said that she wants to take me out to have some fun. If you're free, do you want to come along?"

"It's been quite busy at the office lately. I'll join in after this when I have some free time," Huxley said as a figure appeared in his mind. It was Layla.

He was not sure if something was wrong with Layla lately, but she seemed to be in frequent contact with Asher. Last time when he saw Layla, she obviously had a change of heart about Asher. That made Huxley extremely uncomfortable.

Of course, it was not because Huxley hoped that Layla would get closer with him. Instead, it was

because his dislike of Asher had extended to those around him.

Layla's much more suitable than Amber, right?

With that, Huxley left with a maniacal thought stuck in his mind.

The next morning, Layla woke up very early and applied natural makeup. She then wore a combination of something mature and sexy. For her outerwear, she was wearing a light-colored coat. Its simplicity and elegance could show a much more balanced figure.

When Layla reached the Crawfords', Amber was already ready to leave. However, it would be quite boring if it was just the two of them, and so she asked Asher, hoping that he would join them.

When Asher heard that Layla was going, he instantly lost all interest. "I'm very busy today. Maybe next time."

"I think you're just afraid of Layla," Amber said as her nose twitched.

"Me? Afraid of her? Impossible!" Asher sneered. "I have never been afraid of anyone."

"Liar. I'll believe you if you're with us," Amber provoked him.

Asher was not so easily tricked, naturally. He merely waved his hands and said, "I'm not afraid of

her, but I don't want to go out with her either. That's so boring."

"Do you think I want to go out with you?! It's fine by me if you don't want to go. Amber, let's

go!"

Asher and Amber both did not realize that Layla had suddenly entered. Layla originally wanted to

take Asher along, but when she heard what he said, she was so angry that she was about to blow

up.

Asher frowned, hesitating on what to do.
