Chapter 149 -
Even though Layla was someone quite tall, she had no strength to fight back at all when she was dragged away by Asher. Meanwhile, during her struggle, their arms were rubbing each other. Layla had only had one boyfriend, and she kicked him away in less than a month. During that period, the most they did was hold hands. In other words, she was very sensitive as she had never experienced something like that.
Layla's face was all red when an indescribable sensation enveloped her body as she quickly yelled, "Asher! Let go of me!"
Asher did not care, however. He only let Layla go once they were outside of the residence. He then said, "Layla! Are you mad? Things are messy enough as it is!"
Layla could not help but glare at Asher and said, "Well, you did do it. So what's the harm of me mentioning it?"
"You're talking about what happened to me and Dove, right? It's not what you think."
"You've already slept with her, what's the point of saying anything about it?" Layla harrumphed. "Asher, I know that you're a flirt, so I don't care who you're with. However, Dove is someone that Griffin likes! How could you sleep with Dove?! I feel disappointed for Griffin!"
"Griffin won't forgive me because of this. Do you think I wanted to do this?! Both Dove and I were drugged, do you think I could have resisted?" Asher explained as he could feel that he was on the verge of erupting.
"Drugs?" Layla was stunned. "What drugs?"
"The entire thing was a trap set up by Savannah. Her aim is to break the relationship between Griffin and me. Think about it, Layla. I know that Griffin likes Dove. Why would I do something like that? Are you trying to be a dumb blonde?!" Asher rolled his eyes at Layla. He then took out a cigarette and lit it up out of habit and breathed it in deep.
Layla did not trust him completely, so she gave Dove a call in the end to confirm it. When she heard that it was just as Asher had explained, Layla then said, "Why didn't you tell me earlier?!" Dove then said awkwardly, "You didn't give me a chance to."
"Well, fine." Layla quickly hung up the call as the feelings of embarrassment crept up within her. She had acted too rashly. Luckily she did not tell this to Marguerite or Solomon. Otherwise, it would have become complicated.
When Layla saw that Asher was being completely speechless about it, Layla smiled and said apologetically, "I'm so sorry. Dove didn't explain it to me clearly."
Asher was not someone narrow-minded as well, and so he said, "You came just in time, actually. Go back and speak with fatty and tell him everything. I can feel that he's really mad this time." "Of course he's mad. No matter what, the fact is that you slept with Dove. Griffin will never forget that." Layla flipped her hair and then asked, "What about Dove? Men are always the ones that get off easy when it comes to things like this. Not to mention that Dove likes you. You can't pretend that nothing has happened."
Asher then said sullenly, "I'm quite confused about all of this as well. I don't have time to think about this yet."
"I've heard that Savannah is a ruthless woman. I guess I have finally seen it for myself." Huxley had been feeling very unhappy for the past two days. Originally, the Gentlemen was making quite the scene. He thought that Asher would be in danger. However, he did not expect that Asher would be able to stop them handily. This caused Asher's reputation to rise to another level. No one could challenge his reputation amongst the Crawfords.
Just when Huxley was about to contact the mysterious Willy the Kid, the latter gave Huxley a call instead, wanting to meet him later at night.
Willy the Kid contacting Huxley was naturally due to Rose's orders. Since the Gentlemen had lost its value as a piece on the board, Rose only had Huxley left. He was the only remaining ace in the hole that she had left. That was why Rose asked Willy to contact Huxley, provoking him to make a move against Asher.
Evening at eight. It was still the same bar.
"I never thought that Asher would be able to easily solve the danger this time. Now, everyone in the Crawfords is praising Asher for his ability. Even Grandpa is very happy. If this continues, Asher will become the patriarch before long. I can't wait any longer. Willy, can you help me think of a way to deal with him?"
When he said that, Huxley filled up Willy's wine glass. The one pouring was a scion from the Crawfords while the other was the Schmidts' servant. The scene was quite comical, to be honest. Willy pretended to give it a thought, and finally said as he leaned over, "Huxley, are you sure you want to make a move?"
Huxley nodded and said, "I can't wait anymore, Willy. Grandpa is extremely trusting of Asher. If I don't make a move, Asher will no doubt become the next patriarch. I hope that you can help me think of a way."
Willy the Kid stroked his goatee and then said with a faint smile, "You only want to grab the position as a patriarch. It's quite simple, really. All you need to do is ruin Asher's reputation in your grandfather's eyes, and it'll all be over."
Huxley frowned and said, "Please be frank."
Willy the Kid said with a smile, "Let me ask you something. Why is your grandfather so impressed with Asher? His ability? His character? Or his reputation in Alexandrius?" Huxley gave it a thought and then said, "It's his ability and character, of course." "Asher's ability is his own asset and that's not something you can destroy, unless you have a way to turn him into a half-wit. That means you should do something about his character," Willy the Kid said. "The Crawford is a household that has existed for over hundreds of years, and they care about their reputation more than anything. A patriarch needs to have a good character. If Asher's reputation is ruined, no matter how able he is, he'll never become the Crawfords' next patriarch." When Huxley heard what Willy the Kid said, he thought that it was very logical as well. However, destroying Asher's reputation was not something that could be easily done.
"Mr. Willy, based on your expert opinion, what should I do then?"
Willy the Kid did not expect Huxley to refer to him to such an extent. Everything he said just now was something that Rose told him to parrot. As for what to do... Rose did not explain a thing. Willy the Kid did not give it any thought either.
When Huxley asked him about it, Willy the Kid had nothing else to say.
Willy the Kid raised his wine glass and gave it a sip, and then said, "If you want to ruin
someone's reputation, the easiest way is to frame him. For example, framing him for stealing something."
"Stealing?!" Huxley frowned as if he had heard a joke. Who would believe that Asher would steal with that status of his? Forget about framing him, even if he did steal something, who would believe it?
"Willy, stop joking."
Without Rose's guidance, Willy had obviously revealed his thoughts as a lowborn. Luckily, Willy the Kid was someone that was very good at talking his way out of trouble. He then continued, "I haven't even finished yet. Can't you wait until I've finished? Of course, no one would believe that he would steal things, so we can forget about that. However, you can try forcing Asher to harass a woman from your household?"
When Huxley heard that, he immediately slammed the table and yelled out, "Ridiculous! I can't do that!"
Willy the Kid was so scared by Huxley's fury that his legs were shaking. He almost pissed himself. "I can't think of any more effective methods. Maybe you can go back and think of one yourself?" Willy the Kid pretended to calm down. He could not let Huxley see him being strained anymore. Huxley narrowed his eyes as he looked at Willy, and he then sat down and apologized, "I'm sorry, Willy. I lost my temper there."
While what Willy had suggested was very ridiculous, if he wanted to ruin Asher's image within a short time, he could only choose the more extreme measures. However, those in the Crawfords were also his family. How could he do something like that?
When Willy the Kid saw Huxley struggling, he then said, "Well, it's not that it's the only way. All you need to do is to make Asher act like he's going to do it, but there's no need for him to go through with it. It's called framing, understand?"
Huxley gritted his teeth as he kept on massaging his forehead. "Willy, is there really no other way other than this?"
"There is, but none of them will work as well as this," Willy said.
Then, Huxley continued to remain silent. After a very long time, he then said, "Let me give it another thought. I'm leaving first. I've already paid the bill." With that, Huxley stood up and left. Only after Huxley was completely out of sight did Willy feel his entire body go out of strength. His entire body collapsed in his seat as his underwear was all drenched in sweat. He never
thought that a young man like him could have such a terrifying outburst.
After resting for a moment, Willy the Kid finished his drink before leaving the bar.
Not so far away, Rose was waiting for him inside a car. Willy the Kid walked over directly and said,
"My lady."
"Get in first."
Once Willy the Kid was inside the car, Rose then asked, "What happened? Did you manage to convince Huxley?"
"It went well. Huxley will most probably do what I suggested," Willy the Kid said.
"Good." Rose felt that Willy the Kid was quite the talent. As long as she placed him in the right place, he would definitely give her a surprise. With a smile, she then asked, "What did you suggest to Huxley? Tell me."
