Secret Scion

Chapter 148 -

When Rose heard what she had to say, she even raised an eyebrow. Asher was already giving her a headache. She did not expect that Joel would interfere as well. She gave herself a massage before asking, "You've given Griffin a call, right? Originally, this was to our advantage. After Asher did all this... The situation has been overturned too quickly."

"However, it doesn't seem like Griffin's going to forgive Asher. No matter what happened, the fact is that Asher and Dove slept together. Even if Griffin likes Dove, he would never be able to accept this. That's why I believe that Griffin is still of use to us," Savannah explained her analysis. Rose could not help but sigh and say, "Since we let Asher escape two years ago, he's finally become a menace to us now. Savannah, explain this to me. Why is the Gentlemen so fragile? Dozens of scions and dozens of households, and they still could not deal with Asher. Is it because of my plan or something else?"

Savannah frowned and then said after a moment of deliberation, "It's definitely not because of you because you're wise in your decisions. I believe it's because of the Gentlemen not being united enough. While there are quite a number of them, they are very divided. Once trouble loomed, they all went their own separate ways. They'll never achieve anything great."

"What you're saying makes sense." Rose nodded. Then, she stared right at Savannah and said, "What about you? Do you have any intention of leaving me?"

Savannah was stunned as her thoughts were scrambled. Why would Rose ask her something like that?

"Ms. Schmidt, I'm loyal to you. I have no other intentions other than to serve you," Savannah replied.

"Is that so?" Rose looked at Savannah for a full ten seconds before averting her gaze. She then said with a smile, "I was just asking a question. No need to think too much about it as I still trust you. Originally, when I built the Gentlemen, I wanted to develop it into something strong. Something that no other factions could ignore. I never thought that it would become a joke. The Gentlemen? Ha! The Garbage is probably more fitting."

Savannah then probed her, asking, "Ms. Schmidt, what are your next orders?"

Rose waved her hand and said, "You should go home for now. I'll let you know once I've given it some thought."

Savannah left the Pearl Building after a while. She could not help but heave a sigh. When Rose asked her that question... Did it mean that she no longer trusted her?

Savannah was becoming somewhat nervous. Rose was her most powerful and only backer. If she were to lose Rose's support, it meant that she would be in a precarious situation.

However, Savannah was not the type to simply lay down and die. She did not like to wait for the problems to present themselves and then think of ways to deal with them. In short, she was the type to make preparations.

In other words, Savannah had to find a new backer. Even an escape route would suffice.

However, there were only a few notable scions in Alexandrius. Among the youths from the Lanes, Harrisons and Macquoids, only Jeremiah seemed to be worthwhile.

Asher did not contact Griffin when he got back to the Crawfords. He already knew the truth, but he was still quite furious. Asher wanted to give him a few days to calm down.

Dove kept on dozing off while she was working. Layla could see that she had something on her mind. However, those in the industry needed to pay full attention at work. That was because when they were meeting clients, they could easily ruin the whole plan because of one sentence. In the afternoon, Layla got Dove into her office and asked her what was happening. There was nothing else in Dove's mind other than what happened last night. Both of them ended up in the same bed unknowingly, and they ended up sleeping together. Not to mention that she was scantily dressed. Asher had seen and touched everything that he should not. Dove was not sure how she should face Asher.

When faced with Layla's questioning, Dove lied, "I simply didn't rest well last night, Ms. Knight. I'm sorry."

However, when Layla saw the spirited eyes and did not see any fatigue from her expression, Layla did not believe a word she said about not resting well.

"Dove, I hope you can tell me the truth, alright?" Layla pressed.

Dove sulked and hesitated. However, when she remembered what happened last night, her face slowly turned red.

The change in her expression did not escape Layla's eyes. She spun a pen with her fingers and asked, "It is about Asher?"

Dove felt that her thoughts had been exposed in front of Layla as her face became even redder.

In the end, she lightly nodded under Layla's intimidating gaze.

"What happened? Explain."

"Ms. Knight, Asher and I... We... We already..." Dove could not complete her sentence as she trailed off.

Layla then probed and asked, "Already what? Tell me."

Dove tightened her fists, mustered her courage and then said, "We slept together..." Thud.

The pen instantly dropped on the table.

Layla frowned and said, "Did you do the deed?"

Layla never thought that Asher and Dove would end up in the same bed. That bastard. She thought that he did not like women. Not to mention that Dove was someone that Griffin liked. He should have known better than to sleep with his best friend's woman.

"No, no! We simply slept on the same bed. Nothing like that happened," Dove said.

"Even that was wrong. He knows that Griffin likes you! That pervert, I'm not forgiving him this time!" Layla suddenly slammed the table and said angrily. She then grabbed her purse and then headed out.

Before Asher came back home, he went to buy some wine. He was going to have a drink with Aiden. However, he had just gotten a bottle out when Layla's angry voice echoed within the courtyard. She yelled, "Asher! Get your ass out here! Stop hiding, Asher! I'm going to teach you a lesson for Griffin's sake! I know you're home! Come out now!"

"Seems like trouble is coming your way, Master Asher," Aiden said with a frown.

Asher gave it a thought and knew that only what happened last night would make Layla go berserk. He quickly said, "I'll treat you to a drink next time." With that Asher headed toward Layla.

"Layla, did Asher do something outrageous again? Tell me, I'll help you," Marguerite said to Layla apologetically. The two of them had never gotten along since they were little, and Marguerite had scolded Asher about it more than once. However, he never listened and that was the source of plenty of her headaches. Looking at how furious Layla was, there was no doubt that Asher must have done something again.

"Auntie, don't worry about this. I'll personally teach him a lesson," Layla said angrily. When Marguerite heard what she said, she knew that this was not about some small matter. Just as she was feeling troubled, Asher came just in time.

Layla pointed at Asher and then yelled, "Asher! You've crossed the line! Even if Griffin can be patient, I can't! I'm going to teach you a lesson on their behalf!"

Layla wanted to simply go ahead and give him a beating, but when she remembered how good Asher was and that she simply did not have the confidence to beat him, she then said, "Hmph! I'm going to tell Grandpa about this and ask him to decide who's right and wrong!" Asher quickly grabbed Layla's wrist and said with a frown, "Stop making a scene. Grandpa can't know about this."

"You're scared? Then, I'll tell grandpa about this!" Layla then yelled in the direction of where Solomon was staying, "Grandpa! Grandpa! Come out! Asher got into trouble again!" Marguerite was the person that was most nervous about it. The more she heard, the more confused she became. "Asher, what happened? What did you do?"

"Auntie, do you know that Asher..."

Asher quickly covered Layla's mouth. She was such a troublemaker, and she would say anything without thinking twice.

"Mom, don't listen to her. Nothing happened. It's all just a misunderstanding. Everything will be fine after I explain it to her," Asher said as she dragged Layla out.
