Secret Lure of a Cat Demon

Chapter Meet the Queen

He was an ass hole but... he was right. I needed to pass with flying colours so I could get out of here. I walked down the corridor and I followed my nose to the front doors. I wanted to go out, I wanted to run. I needed to stretch my legs properly. I knew I had only just come from training but I needed to just run. It was a way for me to calm down and think the day through and today needed a lot of thinking. I was trying to figure Zev out. He was complicated and he wasn’t like your normal guy.

For one he never smiled. And if he did it was a small smile. Also he seemed to care but tried to hide it because of his did he do that any way? He didn’t need to be like his uncle. If only I could show him that. He was supposed to take the throne soon but he wouldn’t be able to until he sorted him self out.

“You are clever” I span around. Zev’s mother stood in the middle of the hall. I automatically took a bow. I couldn’t help it. I heard her smile with a sound in her voice. “Stand up child” I did so. She was smiling at me. She walked up to me and touched my scar. I flinched away.

“Please don’t,” I muttered.

“Your father wasn’t evil you know,” she said softly. I looked at her stunned. How did she know my father? “He was very caring. He put his family before others.” I couldn’t help but roll my eyes. “He told me how it happened. I was shocked as to how he could do such a thing but... I know he regrets it every day of his life and that he won’t get to see how beautiful his daughter has become.”

“He wouldn’t care. I was the child he didn’t want. That is why I have this hideous scar down my face,” I told her cold heartedly. “He loved Lilith and Tempy so I wasn’t important.” I told her. The queen looked at me, her eyes searching.

“What do you think of my son?” she asked. I blinked shocked as to what to say. It was such a personal question and I didn’t know if I should answer it with the truth. “And please tell me the truth.” What was with this lady? She read my every thought.

“Well, to be honest with you, ma’am, he is a complete and utter cold hearted asshole who if you turn the right way can rip you to shreds but there are times where I see his kind side and I can see that he actually is a nice guy. Sometimes, when I know he is proud of me, like today, my heart jumps at the fact that I am probably his best pupil to date. He cares about the guard and sees this place his home and going other places feels like a holiday.” She nodded.

“I want my son to fall in love and live a happy life as king. I know it might be selfish but his uncle...you couldn’t talk to him, and I am scared Zev will become too much like him before he is crowned king giving him no mercy when deciding peoples fate. If he had it his way, you would be dead by now. He didn’t want me to do that trial. He doesn’t want me to do any of them.” I listened to her words.

“If I could help, I would but I don’t know him and he probably would not accept it any way,” I told her hanging my head.

“And maybe that is what he needs. Someone to be around him that cares so he can learn. He knows everyone here too well to know what they would be doing, you on the other hand are sneaky, it is in your nature, you will figure a way out for him to stop being so cold and to care about others.”

I didn’t know what to say to her. Was she asking me to get close to her son, to use him in a way? The only way I would get him to start feeling would be to flirt with him.

“I don’t want to lead him wrongly” I told her.

“It’ll be okay,” she told me. “Now that that is sorted, where were you going?” She asked me. I smiled.

“I wanted to sneak out for a run, but I see that that is impossible.”

“I don’t see why not.” She smiled at me. I looked at her wide eyed.

“You mean I can?” I asked. She nodded. “Oh Thank you. I swear I won’t run away. You’d only send Zev after me any way...wait, can I ask something?” The queen nodded.

“Do you by any chance know the out come of this situation.” she nearly howled with laughter.

“Now, my dear that would telling wouldn’t it.” she winked at me and left the hall. I sighed and shook my head. I turned back towards the door. Now, how to open this beauty?

I walked through the front gate about 6 hours later. It was dark out side and inside the fire lamps glowed along the walls. I felt warm and welcome as I looked at the main entrance. I was just about to start walking back to my room when I heard steps on the stairs. I had never really been upstairs. Everything thing I went to was either on the lower levels or on the same level.

I looked at the stairs and I saw Zev’s figure walking down. He was more than likely looking for me so I tip toed to the corridor and ran like hell. I didn’t want to have to explain why I had been out of this place and that his mother gave me permission to do so. I slipped in my door and I collapsed on my bed. I had ran non stop and I did a lot of thinking. I wasn’t going to do anything. I barely knew him and I didn’t really like him so why should I get involved. I was going to live out my time in the guard and I forget them when I left.

I led there with my eyes closed, my tummy rumbled but it was soon forgotten as everything round darkened and I dropped off to a deep sleep.
