Chapter Bets and more Sisters
If I hadn’t lost my anger and scream this place down once I had about 100 times. Katsi had gone missing. I thought I had found her when I came down the stairs to the main entrance but my eyes must have been deceiving me. Though a wolves eyes were fast and didn’t tease; sometimes you saw things you wanted that weren’t there.
I leant against a wall and sigh. I was sick of her already. I was meant to keep an eye on her but I give up. I changed in to a wolf and trotted around the fort. I looked in every room as no one could say no to me when in wolf form. They knew I would rip their throats to shreds.
I soon got round to Gur’s room. He was lead there on his back with his hands behind his back. I knew instantly that he was not asleep. I trotted over and jumped on his bed.
“That’s rude” he said. I changed my form back and punched him in the leg.
“Not like you have a choice” I told him. He sat up and looked at me.
“Enjoying?” he asked me. I knew instantly what he was talking about and I couldn’t help but howl with laughter.
“Are you serious? She is a night mare! I can’t think straight around her I can’t even be properly mean to her, and when I am and she comes out unscathed, I smile.” Gur just looked at me and then beamed.
“I think you are going to soft in your old age” he said. I glared.
“She is trying to use her female charm to get to me and so I can cut her time here, well, I’m not going to budge, in fact I’m going to make sure she stays here longer than her time.” I said. I felt like a child but it was the only way, I was not going to let that brat get to me.
“You say that now, few months down the line you will be sharing a bed with her.” Gur said looking at the book he decided was more interesting than me.
“With a cat? With that thing?” I questioned. “Have you lost your mind?” I asked him.
“No, but I have seen it before a cat demon and a another demon together.” he said distantly.
“Exactly, it wasn’t a wolf.” I told him. He looked at me finally.
“I don’t know what he was. All I know is that he was a demon and his wife was a cat demon and they were different” he said holding my gaze. He wasn’t going to back down and he knew I wouldn’t ether. The thing with Gur is that I allowed him to challenge me. Any other demon here I would have exiled if they challenged me but as Gur and I have been together for a long time I allowed him.
“Fine,” I said backing down. I wasn’t really in the mood for a staring competition. “I will prove you wrong. Katsi and I will still be fighting in 6 months time.” I told him. He smirked at me.
“You and Katsi will be making love by the end of next month.” he said. I gave him the ‘yeah right’ look and collapsed on to my back on his bed.
“Why are you so adement for it happen? My mother is the same. She seems to think Katsi can charm me as it were.” I asked. I looked at him but he didn’t answer. Why is he not answering? I sighed and got up and left. I looked down either side of the corridor and walk in a random direction.
I found the closest flight of stairs and walked up them. I walked straight to the top and I opened a door. The door led to the part that ran around the edge of the fort. It was for those who guarded the fort while we under threat so today no one was up here. I walked out into the sun which pounded down on y shoulders. It warmed me up straight away. I paced down the north face of the fort looking into the woods thinking how it would be to live like a wild wolf.
It was peaceful and there wasn’t a creature around. I got to the south face and I decided maybe I should go back in but then I stopped dead in my tracks. A branch cracked. I closed my eyes and listen carefully, I took a deep breath through my nose and smiled. I turned to the woods and near enough shouted.
“Trespassing is illegal you know.” I heard a sniff of resentment.
“Not when I have a right to see my family” A woman’s voice sounded so clearly. I rose an eye brow and I jumped off the roof. I landed with some pain. Wolfs don’t jump heights, we jump length. “That must have hurt” she said. I looked up and glared at her. “Oh? The prince of demons? Working are we? Your guard forgetting their duties are they?” I growled at her. She giggled. “Oh dear, I did hit a nerve” I stood up and I noticed for the first time that she was leaning against a tree with her face covered in darkness. Who was she? I didn’t know or care.
“State you business young lady,” I snapped.
“Well, you see, funny story really, I planned to go and see my sister, but when I got there her door was unlocked and no one was there, so when I asked the guard in charge of the area, he told me the funniest story of how she was chased down by a pack of wolves because she broke code 395. Now, my sister is the most careful, most secret person I know.” She paused.
“Apparently, not secret enough,” I muttered. She glared at me.
“So I ask him,” she carried on. “Where is she? And when he tells me the guard has her I think to my self shit but then I think about it...my sister is the best at getting her self out of sticky situations but when I wait for her to come back, she doesn’t. Then today... I see her. She turns up at the door, out of breath, telling me that she has been sentenced to time in the guard and that I should go home and tell mama. I told her mama would not be pleased. She just shrugged kissed me on the cheek and ran back, like a good little kitten.
“It was quite mysterious, so I decided to follow her and when I came to this place, I rang my mother for all the history and the laws. Now, Lord of the Guard and prince of all demons, are you just going to stand in my way or are you going to show me where my sister is so I can check up on her properly.” I couldn’t help but study the curious creature in front of me.
“You must be Temperance?” I questioned her. She nodded slightly. “Ah, the one she saved.” I smirked to my self.
“What do you mean?” she asked.
“That would be telling now wouldn’t it.” I said, I spun on my heels and walked away. I knew she would follow me if not tackle me to the ground but she was not any of my business and I wasn’t going to allow her to see Katsi. “Temperance, do you know why we guard members are so ruthless and cold hearted?” I asked her with my back to her. There was silence and I took that as a no. “It is because we cut out selves off from our family. Only after 5 years in the guard can you see them but by then you are a different person and your sister will not be the person you once knew. So if I were you, I’d give up trying to get through the laws and your rights to see Katsi, just like your pack did for Lilith.” I then walked off with my hands in my pockets. I heard nothing. Not a crack of leaves not the sound of her change. She stood there so silent that I had to look behind me.
Her body was tense and I could feel her anger vibrating though her blood. I shook my head and walked off to the front of the fort. I pushed the door open and walked in side. I was just about to close it again when I got knocked to my feet.
“Let me see her,” Temperance said. My head had hit the stone floor and so I was a little confused as to what was going on. “Dammit, let me see her.” I looked up at her. Her hair fell over her face hiding it. Her delicate hands held tight to my shoulders.
“I can’t Temperance,” I told her coldly, getting very angry. She lifted her head a little and I could finally see her eyes. They were a lighter green than Katsi’s but they were just as determined. They were angry. Silently, I knew what was coming.
“Let me see her,” she said with pure venom dripping from her words. I held her gaze strongly with no emotion.
“No,” I told her. She sat up keeping one hand on my shoulder firmly.
“You can’t deny it to me,” She said. I looked at her.
“Yes, I can.” I told her, then something happened I wasn’t really expecting. She punched me. I thought she would lash out, but no, she punched me.
“Now?” she questioned. I spat blood from my mouth and shook my head. She punched me again, twice this time. After spitting the blood from my mouth, I whispered,
“This is making it worse.” She didn’t seem to care. She punched me again and again until I was just about ready to pass out. You are probably questioning why I’m not fighting back, my mother and uncle always brought me up to not be violent unless I had to and this was not one of those cases, besides I might be who I am but I don’t hit woman. The next thing I knew I heard a screech. This woke me up a little. The weight went from on top of me and then someone pulled me to sit up.
“Tempy, what did you do?” Katsi whispered.
“He wouldn’t let me see you,” Temperance said. I didn’t know if she was looking at me or not.
“Temp, you can’t get violent like that, I saved your freaking ass from death, and this is how you repay me. I came to see you earlier so you wouldn’t worry, then you follow me but didn’t follow my orders. You need to go home Tempy, now!”
“But Kat...” Temperance whispered.
“Now!” Kasti almost screamed. I heard running foot steps out side the fort. “Oh Zev, what did she do now?”
“I’m fine” I whispered. She sniffed.
“Yeah right, have you seen yourself.” I wanted to glare. I didn’t need this. I hoisted my self to my feet stumbling.
“You will pay Katsi, if this doesn’t get you killed, it will your sister” And I stumbled off. She stood there not saying anything then as I walked around the corner she shouted.
“At least I was trying to help you. I could have left Temperance to it, then I wouldn’t have have to suffer with you about but no, I stopped her.” I then heard her pounding steps on the floor. I rolled my eyes and walked off. I took my self to the only person I knew could sort this out, Lilith.
