Rosangela: The Runaway Princess (Book #2)

Chapter 9

Tonight, Bloodrose Pack was going to throw a party to officially welcome me to their pack. All members of the pack cooperated closely in the preparation of the party. They all could get everything ready for the party in a week. The party would be held at the ballroom of the pack house and everyone in the pack was invited with no exception.

“How do I look, Dad?” I twirled around in front of my father, showing off the sleeveless long white dress with sweetheart neckline that I was wearing.

This was the dress that Luna Meredith bought for me last week. We spent the whole afternoon trudging around the mall looking for a suitable dress for me to wear for the party. After a long search, we finally found this gorgeous dress. I fell in love with the dress at first sight, thus, I chose to buy it right away.

Now, I was trying my new dress on because I wanted to ask for my father’s opinion first before wearing it to the party tonight. To complete my ensemble, I put a pair of white shoes on and applied a light make-up on my face. At last, tiara adorned my hair that tumbled in a dark brown cascade down my back.

Lifting his eyes from the document he was reading, my father scrutinized me from head to toe before he gave me a comment, “Wow you look fabulous! You’ll knock all of the men in this pack dead tonight.”

“Really? Are you sure, Dad?” I asked excitedly.

“Yes, you’re—”

Knock-knock-knock

He was interrupted by a knock at the door.

“I’ll get the door,” I said.

Before my father could respond, I hiked up my dress, ran out of his study, and went straight to the front door.

When I opened the door, I saw Borris, one of the Omegas in this pack, standing at the doorstep.

Yes. During my stay here, my father had taught me about the ranking system in a werewolf pack. The Alpha was the male leader, meanwhile, the female leader was called a Luna. She’s usually the mate of the Alpha. But in some cases, a Luna didn’t always mean the Alpha’s mate. If the mate of the Alpha was dead, or if he got rejected by his mate, the Alpha would have to select a replacement Luna.

After the Alpha and the Luna, there was Beta. My father was the Beta in the Bloodrose Pack, in other word, he’s the second-in-command here. Then, there were Gamma and Delta or the third and fourth in command. And at last, there was Omega. They had the lowest rank in a pack.

Despite the difference of the rankings, I noticed that people of high social rank in this pack always treated people of lower social status as their equals. They said it’s because they were all a family, so they had to respect and love each other. And that’s what I like the most about Bloodrose Pack.

“Hi Rosanne,” Borris greeted me, “You look very beautiful.”

I blushed at his praise. “Thanks.”

“Is Beta Ivan home?” he asked.

“Yes,” I replied, “Wait a second!”

“Dad?” I shouted.

Within seconds, my father walked out the house and joined us.

“Good afternoon, Beta.” Borris bowed his head slightly.

“Good afternoon, Borris. What brings you here?” Dad inquired.

“Beta Ivan, your presence is requested at the meeting room now,” Borris said.

“What’s going on?” my father asked.

“The council members are here. They demand to see you and the alpha,” he answered.

My father’s brows were knitted in perplexity. “What are the council members doing here?”

“Your guess is as good as mine, Beta,” he replied, shrugging his shoulders.

“Okay, I’ll be right there. You may leave now,” Dad said.

With a nod and a polite smile, Borris took his leave.

My father turned to me. “Rosanne, I have a meeting to attend to. I’ll see you at the party tonight, okay?”

Dad was about to walk away, but I held him back. “Wait, Dad! Who are these council members that Borris talked about?”

“They are a group of people who are elected to make new laws, supervise the governance of all packs, help keep the peace and prevent war between packs, give advice when a problem arises, and determine the punishment for the werewolves that have been broken the laws,” my father explained.

“Oh I see. But why did they demand to meet you and the Alpha?” I queried in utter confusion.

“I don’t have idea why they demand to call a meeting with us. That’s why I have to go to find it out now,” Dad replied.

“I’ll come with you, Dad,” I said.

“No Sweetheart, you can’t,” Dad forbade me. “Just stay at home until the time of the party, okay?”

Because my father insisted on me staying at home, I began to suspect that there was something wrong.

“Are we in trouble, Dad?” I questioned with apprehension.

“Don’t worry, Sweetheart! Everything will be all right,” my father said with a smile, but his gaze betrayed the anxiety he was trying to hide.

Something was off. I knew it. Though I didn’t know what exactly happened. But whatever it was, I was sure that it had something to do with the arrival of the council members.

“I must get going now or I’m going to be late,” Dad said.

Actually, I still had many questions about these council members, but I knew my father was not in a position to explain it to me right now, so I responded, “Okay.”

My father rushed out of the house and headed towards the direction of the pack house.

Seized by curiosity, I decided to secretly follow my father to the pack house.

“I must find out what’s going on myself,” I thought.
