Rosangela: The Runaway Princess (Book #2)

Chapter 34

Sigmund’s Point of View:

Another day passed, but I was still stuck here, chained by my arms and legs in a small dim cell in the dungeon of the kingdom of Clanbella. I didn't know until when I had to spend my days in this filthy, stinking cell. Never once did King Bellamy visit me since I was being incarcerated here. Thus, I couldn't ask him how long he was planning to keep me in the dungeon.

I needed a certainty whether His Majesty was going to release me someday or if he had a intention to imprison me here all my life. I knew there was only a slim chance that I would be sentenced to life imprisonment. But considering how furious King Bellamy was when he found out that I had betrayed him by helping Princess Mirabelle escape, I couldn't be sure of it.

All of a sudden, I could hear the pit-a-pat of feet in the corridor and it was getting closer and closer. The footsteps came to halt in front of my cell.

"Sigmund," someone greeted me.

I lifted my eyes and saw Prince Maximilian standing outside my cell.

I frowned in puzzlement. "Maximilian, what are you doing here?"

Instead of answering my question, he asked me back, "Have you heard the latest news of Rosanne?"

His question agitated me, so I chastised him, "Are you stupid or what? How can I know the latest news of Princess Mirabelle while I'm imprisoned in this dungeon?"

I thought my remarks would infuriate him, but instead, he burst out laughing. "Hahaha, you're right. What a stupid question!"

"So, what's the latest news?" I queried curiously.

"Do you want the good news or the bad news first?" Maximilian asked me in return irritably.

I sighed. "I want to hear the good news first."

"The good news is King Bellamy's men have found Rosanne," he said.

My eyes widened in surprise. "So they finally have found where Princess Mirabelle is hiding?"

He nodded.

"Where is she right now?" I enquired out of curiosity.

"All this time, Rosangela lives in Madrid with Donovan and Randy," he replied.

My brows were knitted in a frown. "Randy?"

"Her werewolf friend," he answered.

"Maybe you meant Randolph," I corrected him.

"Same difference," he said indifferently.

I rolled my eyes. "And what's the bad news?"

Maximilian told me, "When King Bellamy's soldiers raided their house, they managed to flee. I heard that the three of them decided to split up and they lost contact for three days. After a long search, Donovan eventually found Randy—"

"It's Randolph, Maximilian, not Randy. The werewolf's name is Randolph," I reminded him impatiently.

"Yeah, I meant that," he said, "Donovan found Randy severely injured in the middle of the forest, meanwhile, Rosanne was nowhere to be found."

I noticed Prince Maximilian made a mistake in calling the werewolf's name again. But this time, I had no intention to correct him. Instead I posed a question, "Do you mean Princess Mirabelle has gone missing?"

"Yes, she's gone missing," he answered, "The only person who knows Rosanne's whereabouts is Randy. Unfortunately, he has slipped into a coma. So we have to wait until he regains consciousness before we can find out where Rosanne is right now."

"You must get me out of here, Maximilian!" I urged, "Princess Mirabelle might be in danger right now. I have to go looking for her."

"Sorry Sigmund, but I can't help you out. I don't want to end up in the dungeon just like you," he refused.

"You're King Bellamy's future grandson-in-law. His Majesty won't throw you into the dungeon even if you make a mistake," I reasoned.

"You're like a son to King Bellamy, but it didn't stop him from throwing you into the dungeon," he countered.

"Please Maximilian! Help me out of here! I have to find Princess Mirabelle before something bad happens to her." I hate having to beg Prince Maximilian like this. My pride hurt by doing it. But I was willing to swallow my pride if it meant I would be able to get out of this dungeon and search for Princess Mirabelle soon.

"I'm not as stupid as you, Sigmund. I will never dare betray King Bellamy," he scoffed.

His remarks really pissed me off. I was tempted to snap back angrily at him, but I restrained myself. Maximilian was my only hope to get out of this place now, so I didn't want to enrage him.

"But," Prince Maximilian added, "I'll talk to King Bellamy and try to persuade him to release you."

"King Bellamy will never listen to you," I hissed.

"I also doubt His Majesty will listen to me," he conceded, "but it's worth a try, right?"

"Maximilian, please—"

I tried to persuade him, but Maximilian interrupted, "I must be going now before anyone notices that I come down here."

Before I had a chance to argue, Prince Maximilian already stalked off.

"Wait, Maximilian! Maximilian!" I shouted after him, but he ignored me and kept walking away.

I strained against the chains that held me, wishing I could break it somehow, but to no avail.

I howled in despair. I couldn't stand the frustration of not being able to help Princess Mirabelle when she needs it the most.

"Where are you, Princess? I hope you are all right," I thought anxiously.
