Rosangela: The Half-Blood Princess

Chapter 47

“They said the ritual is to transform you into a vampire,” Alpha Adolph replied.

I burst out laughing.

“What are you laughing at?” he asked confusedly.

“You’re so funny,” I answered, “I’m already a vampire. Well, to be precise, a half-vampire. So why do they need to do a ritual to transform me into a vampire?”

“You’re just a half-blood vampire now. The ritual is needed to turn you into a full vampire,” he explained.

The thought of being a full vampire and losing my humanity scared me. But I must not show my fear in front my kidnappers.

“If they want to transform me into a full vampire, so what? I don’t think it’s a big deal,” I lied.

“You don’t get it, Rosanne. The problem is everything they said about the ritual is nothing but a pack of lies,” he said.

I furrowed my eyebrows. “What are you talking about?”

“Wait!” Adolph stood up, and then he took an egg from the refrigerator. After that, he returned to his seat and showed the egg to me.

“You see this egg! An egg consists of two parts: the yolk and the white. If it’s only the white egg, can it be called an egg?”

Before I could respond, he said first, “Yes, it is still an egg. But they don’t call it an egg anymore. They call it white egg, right?”

I nodded my head.

“Conversely,” he continued, “if it’s only the yolk, they don’t call it an egg, but the yolk, right?”

Again, I nodded.

“But together, the white and the yolk, it’s called an egg,” he finished.

“What does the egg have to do with me?” I asked confusedly.

“Imagine this egg is you, Rosanne! The egg white is your human side and the yolk is your vampire side. If there is only your human side, can it be called as you? No, it isn’t you, right? Because the real you also have vampire side. Conversely, if there’s only your vampire side, it can’t be called as you too because you still have your human side. But if those two sides are united, it will form you, the real of you: a half-vampire and half-human,” he explained.

“I don’t understand what you’re talking about,” I said honestly.

“Okay, let me explain to you! First of all, I want to know, do you believe that they can really transform you into a full vampire?” he inquired.

“If my grandfather said he could transform me into a full vampire, I would trust him,” I replied.

“But it isn’t about trust; it’s about ability.”

“What do you mean?”

“I mean, I doubt if they can transform a half-vampire and half-human like you into a full vampire. You were born with two different genes: human genes and vampire genes. The point is, half of you is human, and the other half is vampire. They said that they wanted to get rid of your human genes. It means you will have to live with only your vampire genes. On the other word, you have to live with a half of your soul. But the problem is, can anyone live with only a half of their soul?”

“So you mean that transforming a half-vampire and half-human like me into a full-vampire is impossible to be done?”

“Exactly!” he exclaimed. “If they really could transform you into a full vampire, they should be able to transform you into a full human too, right? Instead of letting them transform you into a vampire, I think, why didn’t you ask them to transform you into a human? Besides, you have spent all you life living in human world. Why do you have to live a new life as a vampire? Yeah but that’s if they could do that.”

What he was saying made sense. But I should not trust him easily. He must be just trying to brainwash me into thinking that my grandfather was a bad guy.

“No, I don’t trust you. You must be lying,” I accused.

“Why do I have to lie to you? What’s the advantage for me to lie to you?” he asked.

“And what’s the advantage for them to lie to me?” I asked back.

“It’s the question that you have to find the answer yourself,” he replied, “What will they gain by saying those lies to you?”

“You’re the one who’s lying. How come I trust someone who has kidnapped me?” I scoffed.

Adolph smirked. “Speaking about kidnapping, the old man who claimed to be your grandfather had kidnapped you too, right? So why do you still believe in them?”

I hated to admit it, but he was right. Both the vampires and the werewolves had kidnapped me. The vampires kidnapped me because their king claimed me as his granddaughter. Meanwhile, the werewolves kidnapped me just because they wanted to talk to me. Now I really didn’t know who to trust.

“If it’s really impossible to transform me into a vampire, but they insisted on doing that ritual to me, what would happen to me?” I asked.

“You could be killed,” he replied.

'Is my grandfather really going to kill me?' I thought in horror.

I drove the negative thought out of my mind. 'No. No. No. If he really wanted to kill me, he would have done it already. Why does he have to wait until my seventeenth birthday?'

'Don’t believe a word he said, Rosanne!' I reminded myself. 'Your grandfather loves you so much. Why bother searching for you for 17 years if he only plans to kill you at the end?'

“Are you done speaking? If you don’t intend to keep me here as a hostage just like you told me, then I can leave now, right?” I asked.

“Finish your meals! And then you’re free to leave,” he stated
