Rosangela: The Half-Blood Princess

Chapter 31

“Where have you been?” Sigmund asked angrily.

Before I could reply, Prince Maximilian spoke first, “Relax, Man! I just took Rosanne—”

“Who is Rosanne?” Sigmund cut in with a puzzled frown on his face.

“I mean Princess Mirabelle,” Prince Maximilian hurriedly corrected himself, “I just took Princess Mirabelle to go around the city.”

“Is he telling the truth?” Sigmund enquired of me.

His question made Prince Maximilian’s blood boil. “So you accused me of lying?”

“Would you mind not interrupting all the time? I want to hear Princess Mirabelle’s answer,” Sigmund spat.

The vampire prince snorted in annoyance, but said nothing.

“Well? Are you going to answer me or not, Princess?” Sigmund queried impatiently.

“Prince Maximilian is right. We were just going around the city,” I finally replied.

“Did King Bellamy know that you went out with Prince Maximilian?” He narrowed his eyes suspiciously.

“Of course, he knew,” Prince Maximilian answered for me, “I have asked King Bellamy’s permission to take his granddaughter out.”

“I didn’t ask you, so just shut up!” Sigmund talked to Prince Maximilian rudely.

Prince Maximilian seemed to want to make a sharp retort, but I shook my head at him, silently telling him not to do it. Much to my relief, the vampire prince wanted to listen to me.

“Like Prince Maximilian said, we have asked my grandfather’s permission, and Grandpa has allowed the two of us to go out,” I explained.

“Even though you’ve asked King Bellamy’s permission, you should have told me too if you wanted to go out of the palace, Princess, so that I can protect you. You know, it’s very dangerous for you to wander around the land full of vampires alone,” Sigmund reprimanded me.

“But I didn’t go out alone,” I defended myself, “I went with my future husband and his bodyguard, Jasper.”

“But it’s still dangerous. I don’t trust this spoiled vampire prince and his bodyguard can protect you.” He pointed to Prince Maximilian.

The vampire prince glared at him.

“You’re lucky no one tried to attack you,” Sigmund continued, “so you could come home safe and sound. But next time you want to go out, you must tell me first, and I have to go with you. Do you understand?”

“Yes,” I mumbled.

“You shouldn’t be this overprotective towards Princess Mirabelle, Sigmund. She’s not your mate,” Maximilian said fiercely.

“She’s not yours either,” Sigmund mocked him.

“Not yet,” Prince Maximilian said through clenched teeth, “But we’re getting married soon, so Princess Mirabelle will officially be my mate.”

Sigmund clenched his fists in anger. Before he could give a retort, Prince Maximilian held my hand and led me away from that place.

“Maximilian?” I tugged at his sleeve to get his attention.

He stopped walking and turned to look me. “Yes?”

“I’m confused. My grandfather and you said that I was your mate, but why did Sigmund say that I wasn’t?” I asked out of curiosity.

“Take no notice of what he said!” Maximilian answered firmly, “He said it only because he envies of me.”

I frowned. “Why do you think he envies of you?”

“Because I have a mate, meanwhile, he hasn’t found his mate yet,” Maximilian replied.

I dissolved into giggles. I thought it’s very funny. Sigmund who claimed to be older than my oldest living family member was apparently still single. Oh, how pity of him!

“What’s so funny?” Maximilian demanded.

“Oh, nothing,” I replied. Before Maximilian could pose another question, I decided to change the subject. “By the way, what’s wrong with the two of you? Why does it seem that you and Sigmund don’t like each other?”

Prince Maximilian sighed. “It’s a long story. Maybe I’ll tell you later, okay?”

I was still curious, but I didn’t want to force him, so I just nodded my head.

“Let’s go to your bedroom now! You must be exhausted,” he said.

“Okay,” I responded.

Finally, we walked to my bedroom. The guards who were standing in front of my room opened the door for us, and we went inside soon.

I noticed all of my shopping bags were already on my bed, but I didn’t see Jasper anywhere. Maybe he quickly left after putting them here.

“Noapte bună şi vise plăcute!” Prince Maximilian said.

“What does it mean?” I asked, didn’t understand.

His lips curved into a smile. “It means good night and sweet dreams!”

“Oh I see. Good night, Future Husband.” I returned his smile.

At last, he walked out of my bedroom and shut the door after him.
