Chapter Chapter twenty-two
As the guards prepared to lift Chesay's body, which turned to dust, a strange wind appeared and carried him away. A shiver ran through the bodies of those present. Crono, stunned, glared at his Luna, unable to understand why Freya had disobeyed his orders.
"Freya, why are you here? I ordered you not to leave the mansion. I thought that, at least this once, you would understand the extent of the danger we face and stay safe." Freya, still in her father's arms, pulled away from him, squinted her eyes and cried out in an icy voice.
"Even at times like this, you're incapable of expressing your gratitude. We came to help you, and thanks to Isis, we managed to free ourselves from the threat of the orcs."
"If anything had happened to you, your father wouldn't have forgiven me," she said, her voice laden with fear at the thought of losing yet another she-wolf who had wormed her way into her heart. "Nothing happened to me, as you can see. And I wouldn't have let anything bad happen to my father," she contradicted with characteristic serenity.
"Thank you, my warrior, for your invaluable help in this battle. However, your companion is right. He wishes to keep you out of harm's way", said Agamemnon.
Crono was about to speak, but his words vanished into thin air when he heard a melodious voice that left him paralyzed.
"Crono, my love, it's you!
Crono turned to discover a red-furred she-wolf watching him with melancholy eyes. In a troubled, frightened voice, she said.
"You... you're dead, Lea."
Freya was petrified. In her previous life, this woman, Crono, had brought her to the manor, and she remembered her name as Palas, not Lea.
"Crono, my love, my name is Palas. I lived in Yinka's herd with no memory. I didn't know who I was," she began to sob, sadness reflecting in her eyes, "Until those beasts attacked her, and in that pack I found refuge. I saw you from afar and remembered that one night, wolves entered the manor where I lived, there was a commotion, and I fled, until wolves captured me, they beat me almost to death. I woke up disoriented, not knowing who I was. I walked and walked through the forest until a woman heading towards Yinka's pack asked me where I was going, who I was, and I told her I didn't know who I was. I got into her car and lived with her as Palas the she-wolf, without any memory, until I remembered you, my love."
"That's not possible, Ginco's men grabbed me by the throat, they threw you at my feet burnt, they told me you were my future moon, that it was you, Lea. Crono stood staring blankly at the woman before him, feeling the weight of the past engulf him in a swirl of painful memories.
"I see you've already forgotten me, Crono. Who is she?"
Freya, her eyes full of indignation and sadness, burst into the conversation.
"I'm his companion and wife," Freya replied angrily. In her past life, this she-wolf had humiliated her, Crono had despised her because of her, and she had often found her in his bed.
Crono's heart pounded as he assimilated the reality before him, there was the woman he had loved intensely, he had to find the right words not to hurt her.
"Yes, Lea, she's my wife now. A lot happened after I thought you were dead."
"I'm Palas now. For the love you had for me, I can return to our pack. I'm alone, Crono, the one I considered my family, those beasts killed her." Palas couldn't hold back the tears that were rising like an overflowing river with no intention of stopping.
Freya interrupted him, her firm, determined voice echoing in the frustration-laden air.
"I don't want her in the manor, Crono."
"Freya, have a little compassion for her, she's done nothing to you. She's a she-wolf who's alone and suffering. You've heard that her life during those three years without memory wasn't easy and that she belonged to our pack." Freya's gaze remained fixed, not yielding to Crono's words.
"You respect my daughter, Crono. She's your moon and has a right to express her concerns. Besides, if the she-wolf came here, she can continue to live in this pack," Agamemnon snaps.
"Forgive me for putting you in this situation. I didn't mean to create conflict between you." Palas began to weep loudly, "He only remembered what he'd been through with my love Crono and hoped to be in my pack." "What a tragedy. Dad, come on, let's go to the manor and change those bloody, dusty clothes, and there let's talk." Freya sarcastically commented dismissively. She took her father's hand and led him towards the manor.
Crono, burdened by the weight of the past and the tension of the present, found himself at a crossroads. He felt guilty for not having protected her on that fateful night. He was bewildered to see her approach him, hug him tightly and weep. "My love, you're all I have. Please don't leave me."
"Lea, don't cry, I promise I won't leave you destitute, but you must understand that I'm married now. Crono, looking at the girl's sad face, felt a mixture of compassion and confusion.
"Call me Palas. That's the name my savior gave me, and calling me Lea reminds me of that dark day when I lost the wolf I love. For the love you once gave me, please don't abandon me," she began to tremble and collapsed into Crono's arms. Crono remained motionless for a moment, holding Palas in his arms. His mind was a whirlwind of emotions, with no clear answer as to what he should do. On the one hand, there was the she-wolf in his arms, the one he had sworn to love forever. And now there was his companion, the she-wolf who constantly occupied his thoughts and made him addicted to her kisses. He felt caught between past and present, between the promises he'd made to Palas and the connection with his mate.
Just then, Dionysus approached, his hand bandaged and limping. He looks at his alpha with perplexity.
"What are you going to do, Crono?"
"For now, I'm taking her to the manor. She's in very bad shape emotionally and I can't abandon her. Once I know she's recovered, I'll take her to one of my estates so she doesn't get into trouble with Freya, and then I'll see what I can do." Crono walked with Palas in his arms to one of his cars and drove it at full speed.
Freya's tears struggled to come. She had to swallow several times for strength. After a heavy sigh, she turned to her father.
"Dad, don't worry about me. Let me handle this situation, you know I'm strong now and won't let anyone humiliate me."
"Daughter, I'm your father, how can you ask me not to take care of you? You're the most beautiful puppy born to my dear Flavia, I must protect you until I die. Promise me that if Crono makes you suffer, you'll divorce him and come to your pack."
"I know that, Dad. Thank you for always being there for me," she says, throwing herself into her father's arms, where she has always found comfort.
