Chapter Chapter twenty-three
Crono arrived at the manor house with Palas still unconscious. He got out of the carriage, walked to the guest room and gently settled her on the bed. As he tried to sit up, he saw Palas respond by weakly taking his hand. "Don't abandon me, Crono. I'm afraid of what's going to happen to me now. You have your companion, whom you promised to reject for our love, and now you're married to her," he began to cry, "It would have been better if I had died that night. I can't take any more suffering. Seeing that you're now with another she-wolf who isn't me, tears my heart out."
Crono felt the weight of Palas' words, a lump forming in his throat as he saw the pain in her eyes. He tried to comfort her by gently stroking her face.
"Palas, understand that things aren't as simple as they seem. I'm going to support you because I don't want to hurt you anymore, but you have to understand that I now have a wife I have no intention of leaving." Palas looked away, his tears still flowing. Crono continued, searching for the right words to ease her pain, "Palas, don't be like this. I'll call the doctor to examine you."
"Your wife seems to have quite a temper. I'm afraid she resents my presence here," he leaned forward, trying to stand, "I'd better leave before I run, and then my heart wouldn't bear such scorn.
"You're not leaving this mansion without being seen by a doctor. Besides, I am the alpha and she, as my companion, must obey me. Rest assured, she won't come near you," Crono replied, his mind firmly made up.
Crono let go of Palas' hand, left the room and called the doctor. A few minutes later, the doctor entered and examined her thoroughly. On his way out, he hands Crono a receipt.
"These are painkillers for the young she-wolf. She needs a lot of rest for her brain to relax, due to the memory loss she suffered following a traumatic event. It seems that her life without memory has been difficult, and she presents a clinical picture of severe depression. She's frightened by what she's been through. My advice to Palas is to remain calm, with nothing to upset her, until her memory is fully recovered and her emotional stability restored. In two weeks' time, you can take her to my doctor's office for tests to check how her condition is progressing."
"Thank you, Doctor," says Crono, scratching his head. The doctor withdrew, leaving Crono in charge of Palas' care.
He entered the room, sat down on the side of the bed and looked at Palas, who was lying on the bed with a sullen expression. He was overwhelmed by the sadness that surrounded her. He gently took her hand, seeking to bring her some comfort.
"Palas, the doctor says you need to rest and stay calm. I'll take care of you, okay?" he told him in a gentle tone, hoping his words would be a balm for the pain that enveloped him.
Palas nodded weakly and asked.
"Crono and Eris, where is she? I haven't seen her."
"He's out of this mansion for trying to kill Freya."
Palas brought his hand to his mouth and began to tremble, his voice cracking.
"Eris, how could she do that? She was so good to me. The two of us were left alone when our family was killed by that evil Ginco." weeping, he took her hand, "I want to see her, please. She's of my blood, and I want to know why she acted the way she did. If you want, I'll see her somewhere other than here."
Palas tries to stand up, but falls to the ground. Crono bent down and took her in his arms.
"You're not well," he said with a heavy sigh. He knew the decision he was about to make would have consequences, "All right, I'll call Eris so you can talk to her, but she's not staying in this mansion."
Palas, deposited on the bed, took the opportunity to cling to his neck, snuggling against his chest. Crono gently stroked her hair, sensing Palas' fragility at this moment.
"I'll fix things, Palas. But you need to rest first. Don't worry, I'll take care of you."
Freya stormed into the mansion after learning that the alpha had arrived with a she-wolf in his arms. She climbed the stairs. As she wandered through the guest rooms, she noticed one with its door open and decided to enter. His gaze was cold and emotionless, as if he'd expected such a thing. But this time, she wasn't going to let it get her down.
"I see you've found your true love again, Crono. He glanced coldly at the she-wolf on the bed. "For, let me tell you, Palas, I am Freya Apka, and you will be his mistress until I divorce him."
"Stop it, Freya. What a habit you have of making all the wolf cubs my mistresses. Palas will be staying at the manor for a while as she's my guest. Thank you for not disturbing her." Crono detached himself from Palas and walked over to Freya, dragging her out of the room by the hand, "Let's go to my chambers and talk."
"You're a bastard, Crono. Don't even think I'll put up with your infidelities," she said, pacing back and forth, resisting being forcibly led away.
Crono closed the door behind him as he entered, without taking his eyes off his wife. He swallowed hard. He didn't know how to face her; he didn't want to lose her.
"Freya, sit down. We need to talk."
"Crono, I have nothing to discuss with you. If you intend to have your mistresses in the manor, that's your choice, but I warn you: if they mess with me, I won't be able to ensure their survival," she told him defiantly.
"You're crazy, Freya. I'm only asking for a few days for Palas to get better, and then I'll find her another place to live. Understand that I can't abandon her now that she's facing reality. She's lost her memory, and what she remembers is our love."

Crono tried to remain calm, but the tension in the room was palpable. He knew he had to find a solution that wouldn't affect either of them, but Freya didn't seem willing to listen.
"I know you love her, Crono. Don't put this on me. I'm simply asking you to get to the bottom of my father's involvement in the attack on your pack three years ago and the infiltration of Kelpies into this region. I've discussed this with my father and he never thought Claudia was guilty of taking seals out of his office. As for the signature, we came to the conclusion that it was Pirro who had signed it, as they have almost the same handwriting. So now I can divorce". All Crono heard was the word divorce, and he wasn't about to let that happen. He felt that if he wasn't near her, it would drive him crazy. He wasn't ready to let his companion go. He grabbed her by the waist and pulled her toward him. "You're not getting a divorce. You're my mate, Freya. You're mine. I won't let you leave this mansion."
"Let go of me, you idiot. I'm not yours, Cronus, and I'm warning you. I see you betraying me to Pallas. I'll divorce you and you'll look like the unfaithful alpha to the wolves of our region," she tried to wriggle free, but Crono had her firmly pinned down.
"You'll do no such thing. You will not leave me." Crono growled angrily, he couldn't understand why he didn't feel the need to brand her, "What have you done, Freya? I'm sure you're the reason I didn't brand you." Typhoon longed to mark her, but he couldn't. Crono pressed his lips to hers and kissed her intensely. When he tried to insert his tongue into her mouth, he felt a sharp pain that startled him. Freya had bitten him. Freya, once freed, screamed at him.
"It's up to you to learn to respect me. As long as that wolf is in this manor, you will not lay a hand on me, and our agreement will be broken. I already have wolves mobilizing to capture Claudia. When I have her confession and as a witness other important alphas in this region, I'll deliver the evidence you need to free my family from your injustice." She didn't give him time to reply, opened the door and stormed out of the room.
