Chapter Chapter Twenty-Seven
"Sign it, Crono. Sign the divorce decree, or the truth will come out." He laughs, though inwardly he suffers, "Dear ex-husband, imagine what your people will think of the new alpha chief, betraying his Moon." He gives her a cold, dark look, continuing angrily, "I've liberated these lands from these beasts; I can turn the alphas in my favor and lose all credibility with alpha Crono.
Crono's inner conflict was evident on his face. On the one hand, his love for his mate and the pain of her rejection; on the other, the threat of losing his position as alpha leader, for which he had fought so hard.
"You can't manipulate things like this, Freya. I won't allow it. Whatever you do, you won't force me to sign something that will destroy us both." Crono gritted his teeth, determined to resist.
Pallas handed Crono the papers and, in a timid, trembling voice, said.
"Crono, sign. You don't want anyone to know what happened here. Don't think about yourself, think about your pack, the one you've always defended and the one your father led like the warrior he was." "Yes, listen to your mistress. If you don't want a scandal, sign and accept my refusal right now, I'm not here to waste time," Freya growled.
Crono, heart pounding and gut wrenching, didn't know what to do. His pack was so important in his life that if the news got out, his mother and his people would never forgive him. He looked at Freya and, seeing her icy stare, knew it wouldn't be easy to convince her that he didn't know what had happened. He decided to sign, took the paper and affixed his signature, handed the document to Freya with a mixture of resignation and pain in his eyes. "Now, accept the refusal, I'm waiting," Freya vociferated, taking the paper.
"I signed because I know you're capable of making a scandal out of it that would hurt my people. But listen to me, Freya, I'm not rejecting you today or ever." He wanted to stand up, but his body didn't respond. He took several breaths, he didn't know what had happened, but as he looked at Palas, the thought crossed his mind, "You had something to do with this. I don't know you anymore, Lea. If you did this, you'll know me. I need to find out what happened before I retaliate.
"How disgusting you are, Chrono!" He looked at them both, "It won't last. You'll both pay me back. It's a bill I have with you."
"Don't threaten me, asshole. You're just a spiteful woman who didn't get her mate's love. Now get the hell out of this mansion, we love each other," Pallas yells. "Palas, shut up. You'd better get out of my room too."
"No, Crono, I'm staying with you because we love each other. Now that you're divorced, you have to marry me, because we were together and it wouldn't be right for the alpha to be with another she-wolf when he's married to the Moon of this region."
Freya felt like vomiting and her stomach contracted. She turned, folded the document and stuffed it into one of the pockets of her linen pants. He rushed to his room, entered the bathroom and vomited everything in his stomach. He didn't know why he was starting to feel a tingling sensation in his body, and his left hand was unresponsive. He struggled to free himself and reached the bed, at which point the door opened.
"You've understood that Crono never loved you," Eris said with a mischievous smile.
"Get out of my room, I don't want to see you."
"Oh, what's the matter, are you feeling sick? I've got news for you, your suffering will soon be over," he scoffs, "because your fruit juice contained the deadly witches' drug. It causes stomach ache, paralysis and death."
Freya, dazed and weakened, felt half her body unresponsive and tried to speak, but the words wouldn't leave her throat. Her eyes widened, she felt angry with herself. She didn't know at what point she'd become reckless with these wolves. She couldn't believe she was going to be beaten again. She tried to cry, but she had no tears.
Freya tried to speak, but her tongue went numb. She collapsed on the bed in despair, wondering what she could do. She cursed herself inwardly, the opportunity the goddess Selene had given her was about to be cut short by her negligence. All she could do was watch Eris laugh and tell her.
"Tomorrow they'll find you stiff and lifeless. Do you know what will be said among the wolves? That Freya, unable to bear being spurned by her mate for her great love Palas, committed suicide. I would have liked you to suffer more, to humiliate you and make you feel small, but at least I'll have the satisfaction of knowing that it was I who gave you death." He turned his back on her and left the room, letting out a sinister laugh.
Freya tried to speak, but her mouth was numb. All she could think of was her puppy, who would never see the light, who would never be born because of her carelessness. She couldn't believe she was going to die again at the same time as in her previous life. She closed her eyes as she felt her stomach contract.
"Phoenix, our puppy's in pain. Forgive me for not thinking of him and neglecting my enemies."
The she-wolf only howled, shedding the tears her human couldn't. She felt helpless as she sensed the weak energy of her cubs.
"Freya, our pups' energy is weakening."
Freya panicked when she realized there was more than one. With all the mental strength she could muster, she managed to move her right hand. Slowly, she crawled to the table, grabbed the phone and dialed number one. Isis picked up, but Freya wasn't strong enough to redial. She kept trying until she heard a knock on the door.

"Mrs. Freya, are you all right? I saw you come up the stairs a little shaky. I've finished my work and decided to come up to see if there was anything on offer," Lucia said from the other side of the door.
Freya didn't know what to do. In a last attempt, she moved her hand towards the table and, with her elbow, knocked a glass from the table to the floor.
Lucia was alarmed, turned the handle and opened the door. She entered and saw Freya lying on the floor, brought her hand to her mouth, approached her and asked.
"Madam, what's wrong? What's happened to you? I'm going to get help." Just as she's about to turn away, she hears.
"Um, um, um, um." A sound Freya makes, and with the globe of her eyes and a grimace with her mouth, she points to the phone.
Lucia took a few steps and took the cell phone from Freya's palm, switched it on and saw Isis on the screen. She looked at her mistress and said.
"Would you like me to call this number?
"Um, um, um, um."
Lucia dials the number with fright..
