Chapter Chapter twenty-nine
Crono, who was watching his wife leave the room, glanced uneasily at Palas without uttering a word. A tense silence settled, and she swallowed, feeling the darkness reflected in her eyes for the first time. "Crono, please don't look at me like that. Don't judge me, my love," Palas murmured, his throat constricted.
"Speak. How did I get here?" Crono began to regain control of his body, slowly moving his hands in a gesture of authority. he demanded an answer with a rigid face.
"Crono, after dinner we started drinking and things got out of hand," she nervously began to relate, "We kissed and, well, things got out of hand. We ended up naked and gave ourselves to each other."
"I loved you Lea, I fell in love with your tenderness, your simplicity, your affection for me, I defied my mother for you. I never imagined you would betray me, in those three years of absence, you became such a despicable wolf, using such vile tricks to hurt me. why did you do it?" Crono, with an accusing look, expressed his disdain.
"I didn't do anything, Crono. Freya put a spell on you." In a trembling voice, she replied, "She's Isis' friend. Didn't you see what she did, killing her own brother and controlling those beasts? You love only me, but her fate clouds your vision and your feelings. At dinner, in the moments we spent together, you must have felt our love to kiss me."
"Stop talking nonsense. After ingesting that wine, my memory was blurred until Freya burst into the room." Crono reached out and grabbed Palas firmly by the neck, "Now that I finally have control of my body, I realize I've fallen into your trap, Palas. I need to know why you did this?" He released her abruptly, watching her struggle, desperately hitting him.
Palas, anguished, coughed several times as she caught her breath and brought her hand to her neck, surprised by Crono's reaction. Since she'd met him, this was the first time she'd been frightened. She swallowed before speaking.
"I never thought you'd kill me for another wolf. I don't recognize you, Crono. You're not the one I remember, the one who swore to love me to death, the one who saw other omegas go into heat and kept his sanity for our love," her tears continuing to flow unchecked, "Now you're able to hurt me for her, the niece of the she-wolf who helped attack your pack, your people Crono, and I almost lost my life. "When you find out the truth, that you've been bewitched and I was only trying to save you, you'll regret trying to kill me," she turned her back on him and ran weeping to her room.
Crono clenched his fists in fury and struck the bed repeatedly. He couldn't accept the fact that Palas had driven him away from Freya. He tried to get closer to his wolf, but the bond seemed broken, as if he was angry with her too. Confusion and anger seized Crono as he tried to understand what had happened.
He got up and dressed, picked up the bottle of wine and smelled it. He placed the glasses on the table beside the bottle. Still feeling heavy, he walked slowly back to his bed. His eyes reflected dejection; in his foggy mind, he was desperately looking for a way to unmask Palas with concrete evidence to get his wife back. Although he had signed the divorce decree, Crono clung to the idea of finding a way to get closer to his partner.
The next day, Crono got up, took the two glasses and the bottle of wine, left the room and went straight to his office. He carefully placed the items in a drawer and went out again. Arriving in the kitchen, he found Palas and Eris deep in conversation. Without looking at them, he approached Lucia and asked.
"Have you seen Freya, have you seen her come out of her room?"
"Mrs. Freya hasn't had breakfast," Lucia replied, lowering her eyes, mastering her nervousness.
"She's all right. Please go up to his room and see if he's all right. I'll be in my office."
Palas, mouth full, watched the scene with her cousin. She noticed that Crono was ignoring them completely, and this exasperated her, in a honeyed voice she said.
"Good morning Crono, aren't you going to have breakfast? The food is delicious."
"I'm not hungry," he replied without emotion, leaving Palas puzzled. Without further ado, he went to his office to check some documents. A few minutes later, someone knocked on the door. "Come in," he says in an authoritative voice.
Lucia enters, trembling, and speaks in a low voice.
"Alpha Crono, Mistress Freya is not in her room. I've been looking for her in her office too, and where she usually is, and I haven't found her."
"Thank you, Lucia. You can go now."
Crono saw Lucia close the door and hit the table, he felt his hand throb, his head was a mess and he didn't know what to do.
Palas, seeing Lucia calmly enter the dining room, couldn't contain his unease and asked.
"Freya, how are you? Aren't you coming down for breakfast?"

"How?" exclaimed the two wolves in unison.
"Madame Freya is not in the manor," Lucia repeated before leaving the scene. At this point, the cousins looked at each other. Uncertainty and worry showed on their faces, as the news of Freya's disappearance put their plans in jeopardy. Eris, panic on her face, murmured softly.
"It can't be true. I left her paralyzed last night, lying in bed. That she-wolf couldn't even speak. She should be dead by now." He stood up abruptly, "I'll go and see."
Palas reacted quickly and grabbed her arm, pulling her back into a sitting position.
"Don't you dare come into this room. You'd better pretend and finish eating. Besides, you saw that Crono saw you and said nothing. That look is scary."
"Don't tell me you're afraid of him? If he hasn't said anything, it's because he's depressed by his companion's rejection. You should take this opportunity to comfort him."
Palas clenched his fists. He didn't know what had become of Freya, whether she was alive or dead. Without knowing her whereabouts, he was going to have to find a quick answer for Pyrrhus.
Crono, worried, called all his men, but none of them saw Freya leave the manor. He then called Dionysus and Damara, and leaned back in his armchair, waiting for his mother and friend to arrive. Uncertainty and anguish overtook him as time passed.
