REVENGE OF THE BETRAYED WOLF

Chapter Chapter thirty

Meanwhile, Freya is in the refuge set up by Isis on the outskirts of Yinka's pride; only she and her brother know the place, an inaccessible wooded area. The tranquility of the place is interrupted by the entrance of their father. "My little wolf, how do you feel? It's because he killed Crono, I should never have let you leave me". Agamemnon entered eagerly, stepping forward to embrace his daughter tenderly.

"Dad, I'm fine, thanks to my friends, my puppies who managed to survive," he smiled tenderly, stroking her belly.

"Today, when Isis came to the pack and asked to speak to me in private, I knew something serious had happened to you, then she told me about your rescue and I couldn't believe what she was telling me. We snuck out of the mansion so no one would follow us. My daughter, I'm heartbroken by what you've had to endure. I'd like to take you with me into our pack, but Isis told me that your life is in danger, and so are my grandchildren's if they leave here," she said regretfully. "Dad, I'm fine here. Isis tamed the orcs; she single-handedly made this ruined place look like a small pack." he lets out a heavy sigh, "Dad, I need you to keep this place a secret. If Crono comes looking for me in the pack, don't give him any information about where I am, just act normal."

"My little wolf, that bastard owes me a battle. I put all my trust in him, I spoke well of him in front of the other alphas, and look how he thanks me by putting your life in danger." He clenched his jaw.

Freya gripped her father's rough hands firmly, her eyes reflecting boldness as she told him.

"Don't worry, my favorite alpha. After the cubs are born, I'll take care of those wolves who tried to take my life. As for Crono, what punishment could be worse than not knowing, not bonding with his own children?"

"I can't promise you I'll be able to hold back the urge to hit him," he confesses earnestly. His face reflects a mixture of anxiety and anger.

"You hang in there, Dad. For your grandchildren's sake, you have to. This revenge is mine; you've suffered enough without getting into more trouble." Freya squeezed her hands tighter.

"You could come with me, I promise to protect you at the risk of my life, I don't want you to leave me," he told her with misty eyes.

Freya clasped her father's hands tightly and, with a lost look in her eyes, said.

"In your herd, we'd be in danger. Here, I'm well taken care of, and in a short while, my little ones will be with us. This is the best place for them," she sighed, thinking of Pyrrhus, the man chiefly responsible for the misfortune that had befallen her family.

She gave her father a look full of regret. She hadn't yet found the courage to tell him the truth about her reincarnation, and what she knew of her mother's suffering at the hands of her uncle, she couldn't find the means to confide this dark secret to him. He also feared that Pyrrhus, on learning of his puppies' existence, would not hesitate to seek to harm them.

Despite the sadness in her father's eyes, Freya clung to the conviction that she would protect her new family at all costs.

At the Apka mansion. Pallas had decided to move his belongings into the room next to Crono's, assuming the position with the arrogance of the lady of the house. With disdain in his eyes, he began to give orders. "Useless she-wolf, if it were up to me, I'd get you out of that pack today. Hurry up and pack my things, I've got to be at my alpha's side today," Palas declared, glancing scornfully at Lucie.

"Don't tell me, Palas, that you're moving into the downstairs bedroom, near the toilet". Undeterred, Damara, imposing and self-assured, burst into the room at that very moment.

Seeing Damara enter, Palas gasps and swallows, silently cursing her presence.

"Mrs Damara, it's a pleasure to welcome you. I'm moving into the room next to my Crono. His companion has abandoned him and he needs support," Palas explained, trying to sound respectful. Damara, without paying any attention to Palas, turned to Lucia in a firm voice and ordered.

"Lucia, take these things to one of the rooms on the first floor. Turning his gaze from the she-wolf to Palas, he adds: "In the past, I didn't agree with my son's relationship with you, but I accepted it because I thought it made him happy. Today, you're responsible for his unhappiness. If it were up to me, I'd have you thrown out of here right now, but that's Crono's decision. However, let me warn you: you're not the type to give orders in this house."

"You said it yourself, it's Crono who decides my stay here. You should stay out of it, remember that Crono loves me," he glared at her, "I'm the one who's affected by all this. I was almost killed and lost my memory. When he came back, Crono was already married to someone he doesn't love, he only married out of convenience to run this region. Freya has already granted him a divorce, and he's mature enough to decide who he wants to be with. Besides, he's confused. A love like ours can't end so quickly for another she-wolf."

Damara, furious, slaps his face.

"You think I don't know you doped my son? You made all that theater to separate him from the one who is truly his love, you're nothing but a disgrace in his life." Palas squinted, rubbing his cheek.

"I don't understand why you're treating me this way. All I've done is love your son, and I'll prove to you and everyone else that I'm the one who deserves your love."

"As long as my son is an only wolf, you won't go near his room. I'll be coming in constantly to make sure everything's okay in this house. Besides, the employees aren't here to serve you."

Damara left the room, withdrawing from the manor. Since her husband's natural death, she had been living away from the pack, in a small community of elderly wolves on the outskirts, in order to lead a quiet life.

Crono was furious at Palas's behavior and at the same time worried about Freya's whereabouts. He conducted a thorough investigation into Palas's life and everything he had done over the past three years. Uncertainty about Freya's whereabouts gnawed at him, and the call he received, telling him that his mate was not in his father's pack, only intensified his unease and anger.

Amidst the confusion and anger, Crono was locked in his room, unable to understand how Leah, who claimed to be his love, had changed so much to become a manipulator and a liar. The contradiction between his image of her and reality tormented him. He wanted answers about Leah's transformation into Palas.
