Chapter Chapter twenty-five
One morning, Freya awoke with a start, her peaceful sleep interrupted by a burning sensation in her stomach. She sat up cautiously, feeling the heaviness in her body and the urge to vomit. He placed his feet on the cold floor and ran to the bathroom. As he reached it, the rumbling in his stomach made him clutch the sink, and he began to vomit.
As he stood up, his legs trembled, but something else caught his attention. She was looking at herself in the mirror. Her eyes widened when she saw her slightly larger breasts. Fear gripped Freya and she brought her trembling hand to her abdomen. Her fingers gently caressed her belly, as if they could feel the throb of new life growing inside her.
"It can't be, I'm pregnant," she murmured, overwhelmed by the news, "Goddess Selene, what am I going to do," pale, she clung to the sink.
"Now, more than ever, this she-wolf must leave this pack," she declared, squinting. She was wary of Palas, "That she-wolf is hiding something beneath that shy, gentle facade", she muttered scornfully. She bitterly remembered past encounters, the times she'd discovered them in bed together, "I've got to act fast to get her out of here. My puppy's life is in danger if she stays in this mansion any longer."
A few minutes later, there was a knock on Freya's bedroom door.
"Come in," Freya shouted from the bed, her tone barely managing to hide her unease.
Lucia entered cautiously. Although she didn't dislike the mistress of the house, she always felt a shiver when she met her icy gaze.
"Here's the breakfast you ordered," Lucia announced, holding out the tray with a mixture of respect and nervousness.
"Thank you, you may go," Freya replied, giving her a look that left no doubt about her desire to be alone.
Once alone, Freya began to peck at her food; she had no appetite and food made her nauseous. She lay down, although she had made an appointment with Apollo and Sienna, the idea of going out was overwhelming her at the moment. A few hours later, Crono entered Palas' room, who was in front of the mirror combing her red hair. She looked up and a subtle smile lit up her face when she saw him.
Crono smiled back and sat down on the edge of the bed. In a gentle voice, he said.
"Palas, I'm glad to see you more recovered."
She reciprocated with a shy smile, hinting at her gratitude.
"It's all thanks to your care, Crono." She turned to him and tenderly took his hand, "If you hadn't been there, if I hadn't found you that day when those beasts attacked, I don't know what would have become of me. You are my angel, and you will always be my love."
"I want to talk to you, Léa. Sorry, Palas, I just can't get used to your new name. These weeks you've been here and I've kept my distance from my wife, I've realized that what I felt for you no longer exists, that I love my companion whom the goddess Selene has placed in my path."
Pallas felt a lump in his throat as fury rose up inside him, tears beginning to blur his eyes. He clasped Crono's hands and, his voice cracking, said.
"I suspected, you're not the same wolf who used to go out of his way for me. You've rarely been in my room. I just want you to know that I haven't broken our promise and that I'll always love you. I went so far as to refuse my mate for our love."
Crono, with a pained gesture, watched the tears roll down Palas's face. Gently, he withdrew them and stared at her.
"Palas, I don't like to see you cry. I know I promised never to stop loving you, but please understand. During those three years of absence, my companion appeared and I fell in love with her after we married. I want you to understand my position, now she's my moon and I have a commitment to this area," he explained sincerely, trying to convey his feelings. His fingers gently caressed Palas' face, "Palas, you're beautiful, and a wolf will seem to love you with the gentleness you exude. You'll see that you'll soon be happy."
"Crono, I don't want to lose you, but I can't command your heart. Promise me that you won't stop caring for me and that we'll remain friends despite the distance of our hearts."
"Of course, I'll be there for anything you need. There's a house with servants at your disposal. Since you look better, I'll help you move there."
"That's all very well. But I want you to join me for lunch here. I don't want any trouble with your wife in the dining room, and I won't take no for an answer. Come on, join me. You're married, Crono, and you won't be coming to see me often. Let's just share this meal together and then I'll get my things to move."
"I don't require you to leave now. It can be tomorrow."
"No, Crono." Palas bows his head, "The faster I go, the less painful it will be for me."
"That's fine. I'll stay and join you for lunch, then I'll take you to your new home."
Palas hugged Crono tightly. As they parted, Cronus rose from the bed. In a loud voice, he said:
"I'm going to order two meals in this room. I'll be right back."
"Bring a bottle of wine to say goodbye to a cycle of our lives; as soon as I set foot outside this house, our lives will already be parted."
Crono smiled at her, understanding that it shouldn't be painful for her. Palas, with a smile that hid his true intention, watched Crono leave the room. As soon as he'd closed the door, he angrily grabbed his phone and made a call. "Cousin, we have to execute the plan today. Get everything ready."
"I'm on my way. Don't worry, while you're in bed with Cronos, his beloved wife will die. The one I fear is Pyrrhus, who will learn of his niece's tragic death."
"If we could do it with Ginco, we can do it with Pyrrhus. What's more, with Freya dead, there'll be no need to dethrone Cronus, and we can help him kill Pyrrhus and become rulers of these lands ourselves." "Sometimes you scare me more than my aunt. You go from a gentle, kind wolf to the cruelest wolf I've ever known."
"Don't worry, cousin, I'd never hurt you, you're like my sister. I just want what I deserve. Like I told you, I should have been Crono's destiny, but Freya's mother had to change the fate of everything." "Cousin to you, today is going to be a very exciting day." With a mischievous smile, Eris truncates the call.
Palas, with a sneer, dropped onto the bed, he would soon have the joy of seeing Freya suffer.
