Chapter Chapter thirty-six
After some thought, Crono slowly made his way to his children's room. Lucia informed him that Metis had gone out with Damara. He entered the room and paused, observing the scene unfolding before his eyes. A smile played across his lips as he gazed at Psyche, her feet comfortably planted on her brother, curled up on the bed, arms outstretched. She took a few steps towards the piece of furniture in front of the window and sat down, contemplating her children. Psyche, slowly opening her eyes, leaned back and sat up in bed, gently rubbing her eyes. Noticing her sister's absence, her gaze moved to the window, her face lit up with a smile that revealed her innocence. She gracefully climbed down from the bed, curiously approached her father and asked.
"Hi Dad, where's Metis?"
"He's with Grandma and the orcs." replied Crono tenderly.
The revelation took Psyche by surprise, but her face beamed with amazement and joy at learning of the existence of a grandmother.
"Oh, I've got a granny! Yippee!" she exclaims with a tender smile.
"Yes, a granny who will spoil them a lot".
"In the shelter, we don't have a grandma, only grandpa gamo visits us".
Crono clenched his fists in frustration. He had frequented the Sith pack many times, begging Agamemnon to reveal Freya's whereabouts, but the latter had simply denied knowing where she was.
"You've already got two daddies to spoil you, princess." Typhoon, perched on his two paws, was captivated by his puppy's affection.
"Daddy, he'd take me to see your house," she said, her eyes shining with anticipation and flickering from side to side, making a pout that melted Crono's heart.
He smiles and starts tenderly stroking her little brown hair, saying.
"Your home, Princess, is your home too. Let's wait until the prince gets up and then we'll go visit."
"Daddy, we can't stay here. Mom's mad because we went out without her permission. We have to go back to her. Metis wants to know why you left us. I just want a daddy," he said, pouting.
Crono felt a knot in his chest as he listened to his puppy's heartfelt words. He gently took her little hand, drew her to him and hugged her, then kissed her tenderly on the top of her head. The thought of facing Freya for his children haunted him.
Meanwhile, Ajax woke up, Crono shared the day with his children, while Damara and Lucia set about preparing a suitable room for the three little ones.
As night falls, the border is attacked by Kelpies. Bastian gives the order to counterattack, triggering a fight to the death. In the midst of the chaos, Pyrrhus takes advantage of the distraction and advances with most of his men towards the Apka troop with a clear objective: to eliminate Crono and kidnap the three little ones.
Bastian fights hard, but the massive influx of Kelpies overwhelms him. He watches as the armored pick-ups arrive unstoppable.
Meanwhile, on the way to the Apka herd, Isis gets a bad feeling. In the middle of the forest, she starts shouting. "Stop the car."
"What's the matter, Isis?" asked the wolf worriedly.
"My companion needs me. I feel he's in trouble and I have to help them," I looked at Freya who was standing next to him with a contracted gaze, "Go with your father, my friend, to the Apka pride. Apollo and Sienna will be there to help you. I'll join you when the border is controlled. They'll need help there."
"Don't scare me, Isis. Why do you say that?"
"A dark force is attacking the border and if I don't help, many warriors will die. She climbed down from the wagon and looked reassuringly at her friend, "See you at the Apka herd." She walked over to the orc cart, opened the door and let them out. She moved forward, and behind, the beasts followed.
Bastian, wounded in the hand and limping, leaned against a bush and watched a woman approaching, accompanied by orcs. Recognizing her, he remembered that she was Freya's friend, the one who had caused his brother's death. The spectacle before his eyes captivated him, especially the skill with which the orcs confronted the wolves rushing at Isis.
"Are you all right?" asked Isis worriedly, as she came up in front of Bastian.
"Yes! These wolves fight without mercy. I owe you my life. If you hadn't arrived with the Orcs, I'd be dying." Bastian, gazing intently at Isis in her imposing armor and sword, was admiring. However, he avoided her gaze, feeling guilty because it reminded him of his beloved who visited him at night. The woman's aura reminded him of his mysterious beloved. He wondered: "Could this be the woman who visits me at night? But they don't have the same tone of voice." Isis, noticing his discomfort, smiled tenderly. She was glad he hadn't recognized her, and remembered that during their nocturnal encounters, she changed the tone of her voice.
"I'll be right back for you to go to Apka Pride. They're going to need our help.
"How do you know?
"I'm half witch, half she-wolf, but my witch genes predominate, and from them emanates a scent of death." Isis turned her back on him and began to face the approaching men, while the orcs fought the wolves.
Pyrrhus stopped his vehicle in front of Apka's herd, coolly watching Crono's warriors prepare to engage in combat. With a wave of his hand, his men advanced with fury, smashing through the main gate with explosives before charging mercilessly at the herd.
Meanwhile, Crono received news of the enemy invasion and immediately ordered the urgent evacuation of his people to a shelter deep in the forest.
He rushed to his puppies' room and knocked anxiously on the door. Damara opened the door to find her son's face distorted. In a strained voice, she asked him.
"What's the matter, son? Why that look?"
Seeing the anguish in his mother's eyes, Crono waved her out of the room so her children wouldn't hear her, and she went out into the corridor, closing the door behind her.
"Take the children and the orcs to safety. Pyrrhus is attacking the herd. I need you and Lucia to protect my children. I must go into battle." He quickly kissed his mother on the forehead, "I entrust you with my treasures. Watch over them." Without waiting for an answer, he rushed to his room to change his outfit, aware that an imminent battle awaited him and that his warriors awaited his help.
