Chapter Chapter Four
Suddenly, a series of unexpected knocks sounded on her bedroom door. Freya, her heart pounding, felt the past fade from her mind in the blink of an eye. Without thinking, she quickly got out of the bath and, with the water dripping on her skin, grabbed a towel to wrap herself in. With a determined step, he walked to the center of the room and, in an icy voice, asked her sternly.
"Who is it?"
"Madam, my Luna, I'm Lucia," she announced respectfully, "Alpha Crono sent me to fetch you and take you to the refectory. Noon is approaching, and he noticed you haven't left your room."
"I'll be down for lunch in a little while," he pleaded, in a firm voice.
Lucia insisted in a tone of urgency, knowing that the Alpha Chrono expected her presence.
"Madame, the Alpha Chrono has asked you to come within the next half-hour. I am at your disposal for anything you may wish."
Freya remembered the conspiracies woven among the staff since Palas's arrival at the mansion.
"Tell Alpha Crono I'll be down for lunch in an hour," she declared, heading for the wardrobe. There she chose a simple black dress and comfortable sandals without heels. At 5'7", she preferred comfort without the need to impress anyone. After more than an hour, Freya left the room and descended the stairs, walking quietly to the dining room. She looked at Crono who remained seated at the end of the table, and next to him was Eris with a look of annoyance fixed on her. However, she chose to occupy a seat at the other end of the table.
"Hello, Luna," greeted Eris in a cordial tone, "I hope you don't mind me sitting next to the alpha. If you prefer, I can take another seat." She added in a soft, shy tone.
"Stop being so cynical with me, Eris," Freya replied calmly, her gaze fixed on the she-wolf, "You know that what you're saying is because Crono is present. But I understand you, being the alpha's mistress, I guess you think you have the right to do whatever you want in this manor. I'm just warning you, I don't want you coming near me or invading my space, because you'll know who your Moon is." He declared, lifting a spoonful of soup to his mouth.
Astonishment passed over Eris's face as she heard Freya's words, but she was startled when a clatter echoed across the table. Everyone's attention was drawn to the Alpha, whose will was palpable.
Crono was furious. The woman in front of him was nothing like the whimsical, naive 15-year-old he'd known. At his 18th birthday party, she'd never let him out of her sight and boasted of being his companion. The she-wolf's attitude in front of him exasperated him.

"You're already tiring me out with your insults," Crono said sternly, "Respect Eris, who's trying to be nice to you. If you don't change your attitude, I'm going to have to punish you. Don't tempt me, Freya," he warned firmly, squinting. Freya kept her composure and swallowed another spoonful of soup without flinching. She then wipes her mouth with her napkin and fixes her husband with an icy stare. He shows no sign of fear or insecurity.
"And if he dares to do anything to me, the alphas of the other packs will learn just how cruel the big alpha is to the local moon.
Freya's words provoked a storm of emotion in Crono. He felt like getting up and taking her to his room to spank her, but opted instead for a deep sigh to control his rage. He rolled back his chair and stood up, turning his back on her and striding briskly to his desk.
Freya continued her meal with apparent indifference, as if nothing had happened. Eris, for her part, was visibly uncomfortable and found Freya's arrogance hard to bear. As the cousin of the alpha's great love, Eris had felt for Crono from the moment she met him. Now her goal was to humiliate her, make her feel inferior to the wolves, and make Crono despise his mate.
Eris, unable to contain her displeasure, addressed Freya with sharp words and a hoarse voice.
"Freya, you should behave like a married woman. You're a newcomer to this manor and you need to take orders. You think you're important, but you're nobody in this pack. Crono married you for convenience, he never saw you as a companion; your father forced it on him to convince the other alphas that he was the one to rule this region. Besides, I'm the cousin of the alpha's great love, the wolf he loved, not a haughty, disrespectful wolf like you."
Eris rose from the table and walked over to Freya. In the past, Eris had grabbed her by the hair and slapped her several times, Freya had endured them in silence because of her love for Crono.
Seeing Eris' intentions, Freya turned her head and in one swift, ferocious movement, slapped her so hard that she fell backwards onto the floor. The employees present were stunned, mouths agape, astonished by their Luna's unexpected display of strength and agility.
Freya, with an icy, self-assured look, turned her attention to everyone present and, in a firm voice, pronounced.
"This is for everyone. I am the mistress of this manor and the one you must obey. Consider carefully to whom you owe allegiance. Do not mess with me, for I will have neither patience nor mercy. Now retire and go about your business." The employees resumed their tasks, whispers and nervous glances running through the manor's corridors.
Freya turned and grabbed a pitcher of cold water from the table and threw it roughly at Eris, who was still lying on the floor, rubbing her face. Without looking away from her rival, she articulated in a dry, contemptuous voice.
"The next time you speak to me like that, I'll see to it that you're punished. As far as I'm concerned, you're just my husband's mistress, who's going to stop that idiot Crono from trying to touch me." She turned and stormed out of the dining room, furious at the nerve of this she-wolf who wanted to humiliate her in front of the staff.
