Chapter Chapter forty-three
Freya awoke with a sense of comfort, but a subtly familiar smell immediately alerted her. Opening her eyes, reality hit her like a cold gust of wind as she realized she was lying on a bed. She gasped and her heart raced as she recognized the room. She muttered between her teeth, bewildered.
"How did I get here? What am I doing in this room?" He examined his surroundings with a mixture of nostalgia and anger invading his body. He leapt to his feet and headed for the door. Cautiously turning the handle, he opened it and peered into the corridor. Seeing no one, he breathed a sigh of relief and slipped out.
She headed for the bedroom where her children were resting. As she entered, she noticed that her puppies were sound asleep and approached the sofa, sitting on it while mumbling.
"How did I get into this room? Crono is supposed to be in the southern lands." Uncertainty gnawing at her, she continued, "How I hate you, Crono? Even your children can't make me forgive all the pain I've gone through because of you," she sighed deeply, "Now, Goddess Selene, how should I deal with this? After Sienna revealed what she knew about Pallas, and after hearing Pyrrhus' words, I'm convinced that the stupid Crono has fallen into Pallas' trap."
Freya was overwhelmed by the situation. In her past life, she'd loved Crono long before she'd discovered he was her mate, and all she'd received from him was suffering. Watching her little ones stir in their bed, she decided to push these thoughts aside and stood up to cuddle them.
Meanwhile, Bastian continued to follow the orcs. Tiredness and thirst overwhelmed him, but the beasts continued to advance at a steady, rapid pace. He couldn't wait to reach the place where he was sure to find Isis. On the way, he spotted a spring and hesitated to rest there, but dismissed the idea, thinking that if he stayed, he'd lose sight of the orcs, and he wanted to be sure to see them arrive at their refuge. A few minutes later, he saw them enter an overgrown rocky area. Bastian followed them through the narrow bushes and was astonished to find himself in a green area, with colorful vegetation surrounding small huts. He searched for a hiding place and realized that they had arrived. He resumed his human form and, from his hiding place, watched Isis arrive with other wolves to greet the orcs. He now had to find a way of approaching her without being attacked, but first decided to go to the spring to cool off.
On the other hand, three wolves arrived camouflaged in a dilapidated house. Claudia announced disdainfully.
"We'll be fine here for a while. Lenis will stand guard, and if Crono's men arrive, he'll let us know." He glanced at his daughter and niece, noticing the disappointment on their faces, "Courage, let's take a moment's peace for escaping in time. You'd better help me make this place habitable."
"Damn Pyrrhus for letting himself be defeated, I hope you burn in hell," muttered Pallas, one eyebrow furrowed and a vein in his forehead throbbing with rage. He gritted his teeth before exploding into a scream: "Crono was already defeated when Freya arrived to save him. I hate her, as I hate her, and this one will pay."
Eris, exhausted and feeling a sharp pain in her feet, sat down on a chair, tears streaming down her pale cheeks as she recalled the moment when she and Claudia were waiting near the Apka pack and Palas came storming in, warning them that they had to leave the scene quickly because Pyrrhus had been defeated. Without hesitation, they assumed their wolf forms and ran into the forest.
"Stop crying, you brat, and get out of that chair. Let's get this house in order!" cried Claudia, interrupting his thoughts.
"Tata, Crono, by now he's probably found out we're family, he's probably out looking for us to kill us."
"In Yinka's pack, they won't find us, I assure you. We'll stay here until we have allies," Claudia said, urging Eris to stand, "Now move, we have no servants here."
Eris stood up, glancing around the place. It was an old country house, dusty and with a sinister, rustic air that reminded her of a haunted house. Protesting silently, she picked up a rag from the counter and began shaking it.
"Let's let things calm down, then we'll find a way to put Freya down, because of Flavia's daughter, Agamemnon didn't want to be with another wolf and I lost the chance to be the moon of a pack." He reached out with a broom, "For now, let's repair our shelter. Palas's tantrums got the better of him."
In Pyrrhus' office, Cronus felt frustration and anger gnaw at his soul. He paces back and forth, running his hand over his head to keep his emotions in check.
"Calm down, my friend. You'll make my head spin with so many tricks, you'll see we'll soon find those wolf cubs. Warriors have been deployed to search all over this region for Claudia and her daughter," in a confident voice, Dionisio tried to reassure him, he understood how his friend felt. He knew that these wolves were cunning and he sensed that they were no longer on these lands and would not be easy to find.
"You will remain in charge of this region. I'm leaving today for my pack, I can't leave my family unprotected. I will not leave my sons' side until Palas and his family have been captured," Crono declared angrily, his eyes sparkling with concern. "Your children are well cared for by their mother. Freya has shown us that she is a wolf with unique powers. Now that Pyrrhus is dead, it's your duty to bring your family back. Freya is a great warrior and the moon our regions need; with her at your side, no enemy will be able to defeat them. Take it easy, I'll take care of searching these lands for these wolves." said Dionysus, trying to calm his friend's fears.
"Thank you, my friend. I will now make you the alpha in charge of these lands. I'll leave you with my warriors until you have everything under control." Crono rounded the desk and sat down, found some blank sheets and began to write, officially handing over responsibility for the region to his friend.
