REVENGE OF THE BETRAYED WOLF

Chapter Chapter fifty-six

Two wolves advanced towards Freya, grabbing her hands and pulling them back to bind them. Despite her resistance, she struggled to free herself. In the midst of her struggle, Palas approached and struck her in the face with the pistol he was holding.

"You're a coward, why don't we fight wolf against wolf? You must need the help of your minions to beat me," Freya said, spitting blood. The butt of the gun shattered her mouth.

"Do you think I'm as stupid as Pyrrhus, who thought he could only fight your she-wolf? No, no, no, no, Freya. I'm not as naive as he was." He looked at the men who had tied Freya up, "Let's go to the cliff, there I'll shoot her and throw her into the river to finish drowning."

The men walked on, dragging Freya, who struggled desperately to free herself, without success. When they reached the cliff, Palas pointed his gun at Freya, but was interrupted by noises coming from the forest, Palas positioned himself behind her and put the gun to her head.

Just then, Crono's men appeared, triggering a violent confrontation with Palas' followers, who fell one by one. Crono's fury was reflected in his eyes as he ran and grabbed Claudia.

"If you hurt my Luna, I swear I'll kill your mother," Crono threatened angrily, still holding Claudia.

At that moment, Palas raised his gun and pointed it directly at Crono. But suddenly he turned the weapon and fired, hitting the forehead of his own mother, who fell over in shock at the unexpected impact of her daughter.

"Crono, I've saved you the trouble of killing her. As you can see, I don't care about anything right now. The truth is, I'd had enough of her, Claudia had many opportunities to take over these lands and she didn't succeed. She had Agamemnon, Ginco and Pyrrhus in her hands, but her wiles were no use to her. Now he was in my way".

Freya, stunned and shocked, watched the scene. The woman behind her had just killed her own mother. Freya had wished for the privilege of avenging her mother, but she'd never imagined Palas' twisted mind would do it this way. A daughter's betrayal and wickedness left her speechless, faced with the reality that if she didn't act, she and Crono would die at Palas's hands.

Crono gave her a hateful look, ordered his men to back off and took a few steps towards Freya and Pallas. Fear flashed through his body when he saw the coldness and cruelty in Pallas's eyes.

"Crono, why have you come? Your duty was to find our little ones, bring them to safety and nurse them back to health."

"Our little ones are fine, and I'm here to save you. I want you alive by my side and by our children's side," Crono replies, his throat constricted.

"Now they're going to kill us both. What a fool are you, Crono? You should have left this forest with our children and forgotten about me. All you had to do was take care of them. If we both die, who will take care of them?" Freya's words echoed in the air like a mixture of fear and bitterness.

"Palas let out a laugh at the sight of Crono's frightened face and said in a sadistic voice: "Crono, since you care what happens to Freya, I'll trade your life for hers. For if you are not mine, you will not be the she-wolf's."

"I accept. I give you my life, but let her go. If you do not comply, my men will finish you off." His gaze tightened on her hands, restraining the urge to pounce on her and kill her with his bare hands.

"Yes, yes, yes. As you say." Pallas expressed her irony, "Now, stand with your back to me and open your hands upwards."

Crono listened to Freya's desperate cries.

"Get out of here Crono, please, do it for our children."

Despite Freya's pleas, he had no intention of risking his life and was ready to face any consequences for her sake. He looked at his men, impressed by their alpha's decision. In a firm voice, he told them.

"If this woman doesn't keep her promise to free Freya, kill her and take my young to Agamemnon. He'll know what to do."

Crono raised his hands in surrender, looking at his men who looked at each other in amazement. They didn't know what to do to help their alpha in this complicated situation.

Freya felt Palas move her hand and, with a great sigh and all her strength, she threw her whole body backwards, sending them both tumbling down the cliff. Crono, hearing the crash, turned his head and saw only the two women falling. He ran to the shore and watched the two women sink into the water, carried away by the river's current. Without hesitation, he jumped in.

Freya struggled to keep her head above water and tried to swim, but her bound hands prevented her from moving. She could feel herself swallowing water, but she couldn't stop struggling. The image of her three little ones occupied her mind. Crono's men ran from one end of the cliff to the other to help their alpha.

Crono, who had fallen into the water, got up and swam towards Freya, who was struggling to stay afloat. He approached her, wrapped an arm around her and, with his hands, untied the ropes that held her captive, freeing her hands. Freya hugged Crono, while tears rolled down her cheeks.

"You jumped for me, you saved me, thank you Crono.

"If you die, I'll die with you, my love. You're the love of my life and I can't live without you."

"You're a fool, Crono, where are you going to leave our puppies?" She smiled at him, "I love you too. Let's try to make a family, shall we?

He grinned at her and took her lips devotedly as they felt themselves swept away by the river's current. They heard screams not far from them. Palas tried to swim to shore, but the current prevented him from doing so. Crono saw a tree trunk and, as best he could, grabbed it for Freya to hold on to. Then they watched as Palas desperately swallowed water and waved his hands, before suddenly sinking and never rising again.

The current became strong and dragged the trunk with intensity, forcing them to move their legs to propel the trunk towards the shore.

Crono's men, following his movements, one of them tied himself to a rope while the others held the other end. This warrior plunged a little into the river, reached out and grabbed Freya, who hugged him while Crono did the same. With effort, the other men began to pull the rope to shore. Once out of the river, Freya thanked the warriors with a smile.

"Thank you for saving our lives", she said, looking at Crono, "You have good warriors, loyal to their alpha". Crono thanked his men and, leaving, they walked through the forest to the wagons.
