Chapter 37. Pain
Okay, so remember when I told Mikaela that she didn’t have the guts to do anything to me because if she did have the guts, she would’ve done something to me already.
Well, I was wrong.
“The bitch actually keyed my car Mason!” I shreaked.
“Xay, c’mon, you don’t even know if it was even her.” Mason said, defending her.
I turned around and looked at him, wild-eyed. He just stood there looking at me with his eye brows raised.
“What, i’m just saying, what if it was some other enemy of yours.” He shrugged.
“I dont have any other enemies Mason.” You should know that.
He just shrugged his shoulders again not seeming to really care.
I looked back at the damage my car has. It had scrapings allover it had a word broadly put on the hood saying ‘slut’. Who else would do this to me. This is a criminal office!
I looked around to see if any cameras were pointed in where my car was but there weren’t any. That’s kind of a big disappointment. I would have proof it was Mikaela and end her.
I swear the next time I see her i’m gonna rip out her extensions and show everyone that she’s really bald.
“Look I’ll get it fixed up for you.” He finally said, looking at me hoping I would agree to this. He of course know I would not so I don’t know why he even said it.
I even gave him back the money for the clothes he bought me the other day when he rescued me in Florida. I’m not rich like him but I have money.
“No thanks. I’m perfectly capable of paying for the damage myself even though I’m not the the one who should be paying for the damage. ” I gritted through my teeth. “I swear i’m gonna kill her!” I shreaked once more.
“Xayla calm down. It can be fixed. You can confront her about it tomorrow.” He said cooly.
"Don’t tell me to calm down Mason. Don’t you think I know it can be fixed. But this is my car for crying out loud. My pride possession. You can’t mess with me like that. My mom gave it...” I snapped before walking away.
I stopped when I was at least six feet away from the car and Mason.
“Your mom gave it to you?” He asked softly behind me. I didn’t even hear him walk up to behind me.
“Not the point.” I gritted through my teeth.
“Xayla, why don’t you ever talk about her?” He asked again curiously.
“Good bye Mason.” I said stepping around him to get in my scratched up car.
He didn’t bother coming after me. He just stood there and watched me drive out of our school’s parking lot.
I heard a buzzing from my phone and I picked it up to see a text from the one and only Mason O’Brien. I groaned before opening the text.
*PBear*
-I’ll see you at home love. ;)
The hell!
What does he mean he’ll see me at home?
I looked in my rearview mirror to see a familiar black Range Rover close behind me.
A smile surprisingly crept up my face but it quickly faded.
“Are fucking serious!” I screamed. “Can’t you people drive!”
The driver in front of me hit the brakes so suddenly I almost hit him in the back. It didn’t even help that his brake lights weren’t working so it came unexpectedly. I beeped my horn long and hard at him. Urrrrggh!
I heard my found ringing so I answered it and put it on loudspeaker so I didn’t have to hold it in my hand.
“Yes.” I answered annoyed. I didn’t even check the caller ID to see who it was but I had an idea.
“Breathe Xayla.” A voice said softly over the phone.
Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale.
“I’m fine.” I sighed.
“Whenever you feel like you’re getting too upset, just breathe or just think about me.” Mason said boastingly.
I giggled at that.
“You see, just the sound of my voice makes you happy.” He laughed.
I hung up the phone and looked in my rear view mirror at his car, still behind me.
I parked in the driveway and got out the car to be caught in a bear hug by Mason. I squealed with happiness.
“Can’t...breathe..” I managed to say.
He let me go grinning like an idiot.
“So ummm are we official?” I just had to ask. It usually takes a couple of weeks for something this big to actually sink in.
“Do you want us to be?” He asked straightforward.
“Yes. I do.” I quickly replied. Way to go Xayla. You sound desperate.
“Then we are.” He grinned. “Even though we haven’t gone out on a date as yet.”
“Just a few more days until then. By the way. Where are you taking me?” I asked curiously.
“I think I’ll let it be a surprise.” He smiled mischievously.
“But I have to know what to wear.” I whined.
“Dress up.” He replied simply.
“We have to tell Kalina that we’re together now.” I sighed, nervous.
I don’t even know why I should be, she likes him already.
“Well let’s go in and tell her then.” He smiled.
“You only smile when we’re alone together. Why not at school or you know, public?” I asked curiously.
“I smile when i’m completely happy and comfortable. I feel that way when i’m with you. Alone. Its different when we’re with your friends. I’ll be nice to them but I rather not get too emotional with anyone other than you or my family.” He explained, cooly.
“Hmmm i’ll work with that.” I smiled, giving him a peck on the cheek.
We went inside to find Kalina eating Chinese while watching Grey’s Anatomy. Surprisingly she’s home early.
“Hey guys” she smiled.
“Hey.” Mason and I both said at the same time.
“Oh Xay, a friend of yours is here. I told him he could wait in your room.” She said stuffing noodles in her mouth.
“Who?” I asked.
“Jack, Jake. I can’t remember his name.” She barely said, talking with the food in her mouth.
I felt Mason stiffen beside me. I looked up at him and realized that the whole happy to go thing he had going on was completely gone.
He now looked, well, furious.
“He’s my friend. You can trust me.” I whispered to him, carrying him out of earshot from Kalina.
“I trust you Xayla. Its him I don’t trust.” He muttered.
“I’ll go see what he wants. You stay here. It’ll be awkward if you come along.” I explained giving him a quick kiss on the cheek before running up stairs.
I opened the door to find a well relaxed Jake sprawled unto my bed, on my laptop.
“Jake?” I smiled.
He jumped up almost making my laptop fall off the bed. He got up and looked at me smiling embarrassingly.
“Uh, hi. Kalina told me I could wait in here.” He explained, scratching he back of his neck. He seemed nervous. “I didn’t get the chance to talk to you earlier at the coffee shop.”
“Oh what’s up?” I walked over sitting on the chair where my desk was. He sat back down and took a deep breath.
“Xayla, I still like you. As in like, more than a friend.” He sighed looking at me, hopeful.
I looked at him wide-eyed not knowing what to say. I mean, I liked him as a friend but sometimes I imagine kissing him. We’ve grown so close as friends and I don’t wanna spoil it right now. Besides, Mason and I are official now.
“Say something.” He said looking at me red faced.
“I, well, I don’t know what to say. Mason and I are together now...” I sighed.
He looked at me with hurt in his eyes. I could feel it radiating off his body. It ached my chest deeply.
“I know but maybe you’re just confused about your feelings right now. ” he rushed in. “Maybe if you felt what it was like to be with me then you would know who you truly want.”
“But Jake.” I sighed looking away from his eyes. There was way to much hurt there for me to handle.
He took two long strides towards me and pulled me up on my feet. I looked up at him and examined his features. His dark brown eyes, his dark brown hair, his lips....
It happened before I could even stop it from happening.
He kissed me and well...
I kissed him back.
My body felt heated and I drew him in closer with my hand around his neck. Its like there was this force that’s pulling me to him. I didn’t expect this to even happen but it did.
I was actually kissing Jake and it felt amazing.
He withdrew from the kiss both of us breathing hard. I saw him look behind me and that made me look as well because of his facial expression.
I turned around to see a pissed off and heartbroken Mason staring at me.
I stepped away from Jake immediately feeling horrible and embarrassed.
Mason took three long strides towards Jake and punched him in the face, his gut, his chin...well everywhere. Jake tried to push him off but Mason was way too strong.
“Mason stop.” I pleaded softly, tears coming down my eyes.
He continued to punch Jake and Jake managed to get in a couple punches but Mason blocked most of them.
“Mason!” I screamed managing to squeeze through them and put my palms out on Mason’s chest.
Mason flew right off Jake, his back slamming against the wall. Jake collapsed on one knee coughing and wiping his bloody nose. I didn’t know I could even use telekinesis with my own free will but I did it. Luckily Jake didnt see me do it. He collapsed to the ground the minute Mason broke his hold off him.
I looked at Mason and he gazed at me with a pained expression before walking out the room.
