Psychic Enchantress

Chapter 36. Back to Life

Well i’m back at school and I wish I was at home instead. Its kinda hard being here knowing that I have to avoid being angry and all. Thank heavens there’s only one more week left until winter break.

“Hello , did you hear what I just said.” I heard someone say to my left.

I was leaning against my locker lost deep within my thoughts, I forgot Chloe was there with me.

“Uh what?” I baffled turning to looked at her.

She scowled at me. “You weren’t listening to me weren’t you?”

“No sorry.” I apologized.

“I said, while you ran away to Florida, Mason punched my new boyfriend.” She breathed.

Kalina told them that I had run away because I needed a break. That’s a stupid excuse but they believed it.

“You have a boyfriend now?” I ask surprised.

“Theo. The guy we met last week.” She replied, annoyed.

“You guys are a thing now! Awesome sauce.” I squealed. “I told you I would’ve found you a hunky guy. You should thank me.”

“Yeah he’s amazing El.” She grinned.

“What did you say about Mason punching him?” I inquired.

“Your psycho friend punched my boy friend because he was sitting at our table.” She snapped.

“But you know how Mason is. He had the same problem with you guys but he got over it because you’re my friend.” I explained.

“So you’re taking his side?” She shouted. “He knocked out Theo in the middle of the cafeteria.”

“Okay i’m sorry. What do you want me to do?” I asked. “Tell him to apologize?”

“Psssh yeah that would be nice and tell him that he’s sitting with us from now on.” She instructed.

“I’m not sure he’s going to be okay with that Chloe.” I sighed, taking out the books I needed for Chem.

“He’s such a jerkwad. He’s only nice to you and, well, sometimes Jake.” She sneered.

“What’s up with you today?” I asked concerned. “You seem upset than normal.”

“Blame it on Mason.” She muttered.

“C’mon, we’re gonna be late for class.” I smiled, connected my arm with hers.

We had Chemistry next and I wasn’t too annoyed about that.

As usual the teacher is late and there’s no sign of Mason. Probably he woke up late this morning.

I took my seat beside Chloe’s since we were paired the beginning of the semester.

The teacher came walking in with a bored expression on his face. Hey pal, if you didn’t like kids why get into a career that involves them.

Mason came trotting in afterwards. He had on a blank stare but it quickly turned into a smile when he saw me. I smiled back of course.

“You’re late O’Brien.” Mr Baker said to him.

Mason grunted in response before taking his seat. He looked around and gave me a smirk before turning towards the front. I felt the gazes of other students on me but I ignored them.

“What was that?” Chloe whispered, looking at me with her blue eyes. Sometimes I forget how pretty she is.

“You’re very pretty Chloe.” I smiled.

“Okay lesbo. Don’t change the subject. Answer me.” She rolled her eyes smiling. “What’s going on between you and Mason?”

“Why would you think something is going on?” I whispered, doodling on the edge of the page of my notebook.

“Don’t play stupid with me Elena.” She sneered.

“What’s up with you today?” I asked avoiding her question. “Menzies?”

“Yes but i’m not PMSing. Answer me El.” She whispered.

“Okay he asked me out on a date and we sorta kissed probably one or two times ” I sighed, blushing crimson.

“How can you not tell me this!” She shouted.

“What’s that Miss Jackson?” Mr Baker questioned. The class turned to look at our table. I kept my head down doodling.

“Uh-I...nothing. Sorry.” Chloe stuttered.

“Another outburst like that and its detention for both you and Maguire.” He said with authority.

“Wait what, but I didn’t do anything.” I shreaked, snapping my head up.

“Quiet” he boomed.

I groaned out aloud putting my head on the desk.

He gave out instructions regarding work and Chloe didn’t say another word to me afterwards.

The minute the bell wrung signalling the end of class, I ran to the door but Chloe caught up with me before I could bend the corner.

“We’re not done here Missy.” She said grabbing my arm.

“Okay what do you want to know?” I sighed.

“Do you like him?” She grinned.

“Yes I really do.” I confessed.

We were now standing at my locker and I saw something or someone in the midst of the large group of teens walking and standing in the hallway.

It was a woman, a very attractive woman. But that’s not what caught my attention. She appeared to be nearly translucent and her hair was bright purple, looking odd againsts her pale skin.

What creeped me out more was that she was staring right at me.

I saw someone walking towards her but she was in the way. She didn’t move to let the person pass but the guy walked right through her and her figure wavered then disappeared.

“Earth to Elena.” Chloe called.

I shook my head and turned my head away from where the woman once stood but magically disappeared later.

“Huh what did you say?” I asked Chloe, confused.

“You seem to be gazing out quite often. Is something wrong?” She asked, concerned. “Is it the date with Mason you’re worried about?”

“Oh uh, yeah that’s it.” I quickly lied, nodding my head. ” I’m pretty nervous.”

“Well I’m starting to have second thoughts about it.” She hissed.

I looked at her confused as to her sudden change in mood.

She pointed her fingers behind me and I turned around to see Mason.

Not just Mason but Mason and Mikaela.

I forgot that she even existed.

She was leaning against the wall and Mason stood in front of her with both hands above her.

She looked at him smiling like a lovesick fool and he was saying something to her with a blank expression.

What made me feel even more uncomfortable at the sight of them is how close they were.

“What the fu...” I trailed off, feeling sick to my core.

“I’m sorry Elena.” Chloe apologized for what, I don’t know.

But the thing about me is that I don’t sit back and watch at what’s happening and cry in private about it. Hell no. I confront the situation head on.

“Give me a minute.” I told her before walking towards where Mason and Mikaela stood.

Mason didn’t see me but Mikaela did and she grinned even more.

“Oh so y’all are back together now. How sweet ” I said in a sarcastic tone.

Mason back stiffened and he moved away from her and faced me looking panicky.

“Aww thanks. We couldn’t stand to be apart from each other.” Mikaela smiled before linking her arm with his.

Mason stood there, looking at me with an unreadable expression before unlinking his arm from hers with disgust.

Mikaela quickly relinked it.

I stepped towards Mikaela and looked up to her knowing she was a tad taller than me.

“Look Mikbitch. We both know that Mason wants nothing to do with you so why don’t you walk away and leave him alone. ” I sneered.

She looked taken back by what I said and looked at Mason with plea in her eyes but he looked at her with disgust.

I didn’t have to read Mason’s mind to know that it wasn’t what it seemed like and he knew that so he didn’t bother to even explain.

“Walk away Mikaela.” I hissed.

“Watch your back Elena.” She snapped.

“You’ve been saying that for quite some time now and yet you haven’t done anything to me. You’re a coward and we both know it. ” I smiled sweetly before grabbing Mason’s hand and walking back to a surprised looking Chloe.

“Let’s go Chlo. I’m in need of a latte.” I told her picking my bag off the ground.

We didn’t have anymore classes for the day so we went to the coffee shop. She texted the rest of the gang to meet us there.

I walked straight to Mason’s car instead of mine. Figured I rather drive with him and pick up my car later.

“I sometimes forget how bitchy you can be when ready.” Mason finally said breaking the silence in the car.

“I’m not a bitch. I just don’t take people disrespecting me lightly.” I explained cooly.

“Right. Yeah I remember the way you were with me. You really had the nerve to talk to me like that.” He chuckled.

“You were such a jerk ” I sighed. “And you still are.” I added.

“Well I try not to be at times.” He defended.

“What’s this i’m hearing about you punching Theo?” I questioned turning to him.

His face quickly turned into a scowl.

“He deserved it.” He gritted through his teeth.

“Promise me one thing.” I began.

“It depends..” He said cutting me off.

“Promise you will never punch none of my friend’s friends.” I concluded.

“I can’t promise you that Xayla.” He muttered.

“C’mon, its reasonable” I defended.

He didn’t say anything after that. He just looked at me for a split second and turned his gaze back on the road.

“Who gave you those roses I saw at your house?” He asked blatantly.

I looked at him curious but he kept his gaze on the road.

“I don’t know.” I answered truthfully.

“Who do you think it is?” He asked still keeping his gaze on the road.

“I have no idea.” I replied.

“Do you think its Jake?” He inquired.

“I highly doubt it but I’ll ask him and I’ll see. I’ll know if he’s telling the truth either way.” I murmured.

He grunted in response.

We entered the coffee shop three minutes later and saw my group of friends sitting at the corner. That includes, Chloe, Cynthia, Evan, Jake and now, Theo.

I looked at Mason and he was looking directly at Theo with a disgusted expression.

“Mason you promised.” I whispering, reaching for his hand.

He looked down at me and our interlocked hands then back at the table where Theo sat.

“Actually I didn’t promise you that.” He muttered before walking towards the table, pulling me along.

I groaned aloud.

“Hey guys. Hi Theo.” I smiled.

Everyone except Chloe and Theo looked at me and Mason’s hands intertwined. Chloe was looking at Theo. Theo was looking at Mason.

And well, Mason was looking at Theo with a deadly expression.

Oh boy.

I gently squeezed Mason’s hands and he turned away from Theo and sat down with me. I could sense that he was very uncomfortable but if he’s not punching anyone, I’m good.
