Project Rescue - A Shifter Novel (NaNoWriMo19)

Chapter 70 - Left

I finally drifted off to sleep. I was sleeping like a baby for almost four hours, well, until Rawr screamed, “Selina, you might want to wake up! We’re about to have company!”

I woke up and heard a bullet being chambered in a gun, sounding as if it was a Beretta 92 FS. I rolled Matheus and I to the floor, landing with a small grunt of pain from landing on top of Matheus. He looked up at me, tilting his head to the side. I held my finger to his lips and pulled two blades from underneath the bed. I sat up to the side of Matheus and watched as the door was unlocked. The door opened up slowly and I saw who it was. My jaguar was helping me when I threw my first blade at his goggles and the second one in his shoulder, causing him to drop his gun. Matheus jumped up and tackled him to the floor in the hallway as I got up slower and walked up to him and pointing my own gun in his face. He stopped moving.

“Did you get everything, General?” Matheus asked Madrid.

I never took my eyes off Ice until Madrid took over for me. “Yeah, everything's taped and Eagle is sending it to JAG as we speak.” The MP’s showed up and cuffed Ice.

“Bitch, you will pay for this. Barbosa said you couldn’t fight,” Ice spat at me.

I chuckled coldly. “What Barbosa didn’t know was that I was a lot better than I showed. Who do you think took him down, you bastard?” I told him, smiling coldly.

“You didn’t do it by yourself.”

“You are so wrong. She took him down all by herself,” Antonio stated, giving Ice a look no one wanted to have directed at them.

“You! You work for him. What are you doing here? Trying to get less sentencing by testifying against me?”

“Actually,” Antonio pointed at me, “she’s testifying against you. I work for the U.S. Government same as you are supposed to. They do have my reports but they have her witnessing the arms you brought in.”

“She wasn’t anywhere around when I brought the shipment to Barbosa,” Ice exclaimed.

“Yeah, I was. You couldn’t see me because I was good at being a shadow, you idiot. Do you know you just implicated yourself just now? Not too smart now are you?” I laughed at him.

Madrid nodded and the M.P.’s took him away.

“I can’t believe you taped it. Too funny.” I paused. “I felt water roll down my legs, hoping I didn’t pee on myself but then I remembered Illy telling me about my water. Uh, honey, my water just broke. Can we go now and see our beautiful baby?”

The men gaped at me. “Now!”

They took off running, leaving me standing where I was. I huffed out a breath and rolled my eyes. I followed the scent of my mate, cursing him up one side and down another. I couldn’t believe he left me. How the hell did he think he was going to see his baby if I wasn’t there. I strolled through the hallways until I walked outside and found no one there. I was going to kill him for leaving me. The pain was getting worse and I was getting madder. The guys drove back up after leaving my fat pregnant ass on the curb for fifteen minutes.

“About damn time. Did you think one of you were going to pop a baby out of your ass?” I complained, panting heavily. “Move it! I don’t want to have this baby in the car.”

Madrid threw on the gas throwing me back in the seat hard. “Seriously? I should have drove myself to the damned hospital,” I grumbled.

“Sorry, Selina, I thought Matheus had you and when I noticed you weren’t in the van I turned around as fast as I could,” Madrid explained as I gritted my teeth in pain. I nodded my head at him in the rear view window.

My pain started getting closer together and so did my cursing. I was sweating bullets, getting ready to stick my head out of the van. I was miserable and bitchy. We finally pulled up to the hospital and Matheus picked me up as if I was a baby and not a two ton whale. I didn’t care. I didn’t think I could walk or I would have bitched about him carrying me too. I didn’t know that having a baby could be so painful. I hoped it was over soon.

After we were escorted to the maternity ward the guys left Matheus and I to wait on the damned nurses to stop sticking me and dressing me in a gown. “Damn, women, enough with the blood. Are you all vampires?”

The technician laughed as if I told a funny joke. I was about ready to bitch slap her but Matheus grabbed my hand right before I could raise it, shaking his head at me. I huffed and waited for the blood-sucker to finish as Matheus held my hands. I wanted to roll my eyes but I rolled them too many times and given myself a headache or I had a headache from having to much blood taken.

“That’s enough!” I yelled, causing the technician to back away from me and Matheus to raise an eyebrow at me. “I’m tired of being poked.”

The technician scurried out of the room, leaving me to have a little piece and quiet. That is before the doctor came into the room. “How are we doing?”

“We? I’m just peachy. Are you going to have our baby?” I sarcastically said as Matheus sighed. “What, Matheus, you thought my whole demeanor would change because I’m having a baby? I don’t think so. I’m a sarcastic kind of, ooh, girl.”

“Your contractions are getting closer but as you know I can’t give you any pain medicine,” the doctor explained.

“Do what? Say again. I think I heard you say you couldn’t give me anything for the pain,” I panted out. The doctor nodded.

“Well, shit!” I exclaimed.

I heard the hyena’s laughing outside of my door, pushing my buttons even further. “Honey, can you go tell the hyena’s outside I will take care of them later?” I asked sweetly.

“Run!” I heard one of the guys yell as they ran away from my door.

“You know they will never come back,” Matheus told me.

“Good. My job here is done,” I told Matheus. The doctor and Matheus started laughing, causing me to laugh too. “You can call Madrid and tell him I said it was safe, for now.”

“Wow, you have them men scared of you? How?” The doctor asked.

“You’ll have to ask the General,” I explained to him. He nodded and left out of my room.

It didn’t take long for me to be grabbing Matheus’s hand and breaking three fingers. “Owe, honey, you didn’t have to break my fingers.”

I looked at him incredulously. “Owe, honey, you didn’t have to break my va-jay-jay.”

I heard the guys laughing at us. “Come on in here and let me hold your hands.” The men quit laughing immediately.

“I didn’t mean to break your fingers, you know?” I questioned him, looking into his eyes as he nodded his head.

The doctor came back in after thirty-minutes to check on me. He looked at the bent bed rail but kept his mouth shut about it. His eyes did widen a little. He checked me and told me I was eight centimeters, whatever that meant. I mean, what kind of doctor doesn’t explain things to a new soon to be mother. He walked back out and I looked at Matheus, shrugging my shoulders when he looked at me with a questioning look. Like, how the hell was I supposed to know.

I was panting and cursing worse than any ten sailors at one time. “This is the last baby we’re having, Matheus. Fuck me running and sideways. And, no, that wasn’t an invitation.”

“Come on, Selina,” Matheus pleaded as I gave him a look that could freeze the whole planet.

“You had the fun part and I’m stuck with the pain afterwards,” I panted out.

“You weren’t complaining when I-” I covered his mouth and looked at him, nodding my head towards the door.

He sighed and smiled. I wasn’t getting the joke. Not at all. I was hot, sweaty and in pain. Matheus’s fingers had already healed and I was thinking about grabbing his hand and breaking a few fingers. But, I wouldn’t. Damn it!

I started panting even more than before. “Uh, you might want to go get the doctor or I’m going to have this child on my own or you can help-” I tried to say.
