Project Rescue - A Shifter Novel (NaNoWriMo19)

Chapter 58 - Going Hunting

Everyone followed Matheus and me, using the interconnected animal highway. We moved quickly and quietly. We never said a word to each other, knowing we had a time limit to take out the sentries. We couldn’t be late or we wouldn’t have enough time. Plus, Flirt and Eagle would come out of the bunker too early.

If Flirt had his head on straight.

We weren’t too far away when we stopped moving, looking around the trees, looking for the sentries. We needed to make sure the sentries were in the same place before we moved forward. We found the first three sentries easily. The fuckers were almost asleep - perfect.

I picked the one I wanted to take out. The man tormented me everyday. When I was thirteen he started coming on to me. It was not bad at first. But, it changed one day to terrifying. He would corner me and feel me up, thrusting his pelvis at mine. I was disgusted by him. My mind went back to those times, freezing me in my tracks. I shook my head. I was trying to get the memories out of my head. I started breathing slowly and quietly. It took me awhile but I finally got my heart rate down. Now, I was pissed at the reaction I had. I had vowed I wouldn’t let any of the men get their hands on me again

I started crawling up the tree, using my human form to keep from making any sound - not that I thought he would hear me when he was asleep. Well, I guess he wanted to meet me. The devil would have a lot of fun with him, but not before I did.

I made to a branch above his, watching him for a few minutes. He never woke up as I stared at him. He was mumbling in his sleep, something about being home with his mate. I wondered if his mate knew what he tried to do to me, probably not.

I dropped down to the branch he was sitting on, causing him to wake up a little. I bent down to his face and whisper yelled ‘boo’. He looked up at me in shock as I smirked at him. His facial expression changed to lust.

Hell, no! This fucker was not going to touch me ever again. Still smirking I dropped my blades in my hand and leaned in, making him think I was going to kiss him. As soon as leaned in I covered his mouth and opened his body from sternum to his junk. I smirked even more as I cut his throat and laid him down on the branch he was on. If he fell out of the tree it wouldn’t bother me.

I leapt down from the branch I was on and ran to the next sentry, until I heard Claw say they had gotten him and was taking him to the compound. How the hell did they get him? He was a good shadow. We would have to rescue him after we took care of the sentries. It would be harder to catch them off guard now. Oh, well, we were shadows too and Antonio would take care of him.

I snuck up on the next sentry. He was watching the way Claw came from, leaving his right flank unguarded. It would soon be his downfall. I looked around me slowly moving my head. I caught a glimpse of another weapon across from the sentry I was going to take out. I burrowed into the dirt and leaves, letting the men know to look for more sentries across from the normal ones. I was happy they had already noticed the extra sentries.

I slowly moved like a snake until I was around the trunk of a large tree. I slowly climbed up the trunk of the tree until I was in the leaves of the trees above the sentry. I pulled myself into a crouch and held myself upside down until I slid my blades into my hand. I dropped down and threw one blade across to the other sentry, killing him with one throw. The other sentry started to bring his gun around but he got caught in the tree he was perched on. I didn’t hesitate, I went across his throat and stabbed him in the heart, letting him fall to the ground.

We could all hear the torture Claw was going through. His mic still worked just fine, although I wished it wasn’t. He wasn’t getting hit as hard as I knew Antonio could hit, which meant he was faking the grunts and screams. I ran across the limbs until I jumped down to the ground. I was reaching out to grab the blade when there was gun fire all around me.

"I guess they don’t want to kill us,” Rawr chirped.

I rolled my eyes. ”No, because Barbosa wants to kill us. He needs to know what I did with the paperwork I stole. Not going to happen.” Rawr didn’t answer as she went back to sleep.

I pulled my gun from my back, moving slowly. I put my eye to the scope, looking for the sentry firing on me. I found his hiding spot by catching a glimpse of his eyes. Ha! Not good enough. Thanks Antonio.

I hit him in his forehead. He fell out of the tree embedding the arrow further into his head. He twitched for twenty seconds and finally laid still. I grabbed my blade from the one man and ran over to the tree above the one with the arrow in his head. I pulled it out and threw it in my pack. I didn’t want the bad guys to find it and come up with a plan to use them - not that I thought it was possible.

I moved to the next sentry, finding him dead. I looked across to the sentry across the way and he was dead too. I felt air displacement and I jumped into the lowest branch in the tree.
