Chapter 22.
22. “Roger so near thee trips, I vow!”
Father Rowan stood in the front of the debriefing room in Mictlan, more specifically in the underground Zona de Silencio facility…Father Rowan was leading a Mass for those in attendance that Tuesday morning.
“I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen…” the twenty people spoke along with Father Rowan as he continued to celebrate the Mass as Dolores Ortiz camped somewhere near the Mapimi Kamazotz sanctuary. The faculty of Mictlan was unaware of the intentions of Dolores or any of the cursed descendants of Amberson Osborn or that she had set up camp near the Biosphere Reserve in Durango, Mexico. Morgan and Noah Lafayette were at Mass that morning. They had been working on their mind control techniques. It could be used as a form of distraction…
By this time tomorrow, a couple of the members of the March, fourteenth massacre survivors group tried to attack General Harlow Esenbach. Because of the miracle of Mictlan and the Aztec space/time travel, Harlow was protected and the Osborn curse and conspiracy had begun to be unveiled. The attempt on the General’s life was a distraction to pull some Ghosts away from Mictlan and more importantly from the Kamazotz Sanctuary so that Dolores Ortiz could transform to infiltrate the sanctuary by crossing the unshielded gravity generator field border. She wasn’t quite Zed nor Kamazotz but her brain was unaffected by the electromagnetic field created by the unshielded gravity generators. These unshielded generators created the sleep barrier that affected the brain waves of normal animals more evolutionarily advanced than insects and some reptiles…this was the foundation of the barrier to the Zombie Protected Zone and the barrier for the sanctuary or the field that imprisoned the Kamazotz species in the Zona de Silencio. Dolores transformed and flew right through the invisible fence for Chupacabra…and began to feed on the Zed and human staff. By noon Wednesday Dolores had disabled the gravity generators and the sleep barrier had been broken…and the Chupacabra began to gather and follow the BMW as Squirrel Girl got into the passenger side and Dolores Ortiz had made her Jekyll-esque transformation back into a human and the rain that followed her stopped. They drove north to El Paso, Texas intent upon disabling the Zombie Protected Zone’s sleep barrier. Squirrel Girl had an MP3 player filled with her militant feminist lectures.
“I feel like Thelma…except with a monster of a bomb to drop on the Z…” Dolores said as she transitioned from off-road racing across the desert to Mexican highway four-ninety north of El Volcan.
