Chapter 23.
23. And Roger turns him round three times,
If I made it seem that Benedict Habban as the Vulture would somehow be able to or had the desire to stop Papa Legba from manipulating the Eagle Scouts from setting fire to the Rabbi’s Hanukkah gifts to his two sons, then I am sorry…Vulture hasn’t the faintest desire to stop this from happening.
Vulture revisits the crime scene perched on the roof like a Gothic Gargoyle, to watch the scene unfold. And when the van driven by Paul Leyva speeds off with the two arsonists inside…the Vulture puts out the fire so to minimize the damage. And Space/Time travel as it is, Ben befriends these two young adults to pose as a concerned neighbor helping them fix their trucks free of charge, labor, and parts. Papa Legba manipulated the Chevy Dealership and the auto insurance so that car insurance couldn’t be purchased, the trucks need to be taken now to ensure the great price…and the Rabbi’s home owner’s insurance failed to cover any of the damage, like most people’s home owner’s insurance in the same situation.
There is something greater going on…
Benedict likes to indulge in escaping to the past and didn’t just join a motorcycle club but founded ‘The Vultures’. Although this club spread its proverbial wings from Salem, Oregon to Los Angeles…at some point Benedict was there having a laugh and riding his bike…
In the nineteen sixties, Ben purchased a warehouse and converted it into a mechanics’ shop with a very large living area on the second and third floors. Benedict helped the teenagers with a tow to his shop and some space and instead of dropping a small block engine on their faces, he dropped some knowledge and kindness. Allowing them to not only repair their trucks but also make some custom modifications.
The Rabbi tried to pay but Benedict gave the money to the poor or began to employ some homeless men to help clean the shop and help the two teenagers grow into men.
