Chapter 37 She Seemed So Pitiful 

Sheldon’s heart throbbed when he saw Natalie. 

He dashed toward her and asked, “Natalie, are you alright?” 

Sheldon took down the cloth that was stuffed in her mouth. 

Natalie had a lot to tell Sheldon but now was not the time. She shook her head 

instead. 

“I’ll carry you 

ru you out!” 

Without hesitating, Sheldon carried her. The fire was huge, causing thick and pungent smoke to fill the air in the narrow space. 

“Rest assured; I’ll get you out for sure!” 

Sheldon moved promptly toward the door with her in his arms. She couldn’t help but glance at him. He was frowning, and his expression was complicated. 

She didn’t expect him to save her in the end. 

Just as they were about to make their way out of the metal shack, the roof suddenly collapsed. 

A large piece of burning metal came crashing down. 

“Careful!” Natalie warned as she noticed it first. 

Sheldon dodged it swiftly. However, his shoulder was slightly injured, which seemed pretty painful. 

Natalie heard him grunt, and a hint of pain flashed across his face. The fire on the metal piece scorched his shoulder, even tearing a hold of his clothes. 

Usually, Natalie was reluctant to owe others favors. Yet, she owed Sheldon one for saving her and getting himself injured. She felt uneasy. 

Once he got her out of the metal shack, she asked immediately, “Are you okay? It must be painful. Let’s go to the hospital.” 

Sheldon placed her down on the ground and took off the rope around her wrists. 

“It’s fine. Let me take this off you first.” 

Natalie’s gaze was still fixated on his injury. 

Looking at the reddened wound, she could imagine how much pain he must be in.

“What brings you here?” She asked, feeling puzzled. 

“Leslie said something came up, and she couldn’t come and pick you up. So she called me,” Sheldon answered truthfully. 

Little did both of them know Leslie intended to create an opportunity for them. 

That was why she said she had something coming up. 

Nevertheless, Sheldon was glad that he came. Otherwise, he couldn’t bear to imagine what would happen to her. 

Their last meeting at the mall could’ve turned into an eternal farewell. 

Natalie remained silent after she heard him. 

Only when she was freed did she finally utter, “Thank you for today. Otherwise, I 

Although she was rescued, the memories of what had just happened still haunted her. 

It was such a close call for her to lose her child. She almost lost her life as well. 

“Let’s not talk about that for now. Let’s go to the hospital. Your injury has to be treated immediately!” Natalie urged, furrowing her brows. 

Sheldon saw how worried she was. Despite the pain of his injury, he felt delighted because she was concerned about him. 

“Right, let’s go to the hospital first.” 

He nodded and stood up first, extending his hand toward her. 

Natalie glanced at his hand and said indifferently, “I can stand up on my own.” 

She stood up swiftly. 

She had to keep a distance from him since, technically, she was still not divorced. 

Even if she was, she shouldn’t stay too close to him since they weren’t in at relationship. 

Sheldon didn’t say anything when she didn’t take his hand. Instead, he pointed in 

a direction. 

“My car is right there. Let’s go.” 

“Alright.” 

Natalie followed him. Since his shoulder was injured and he might not be able to

During the journey, Sheldon couldn’t help but ask, “Who were these people?” 

Although it seemed like a casual question, his voice carried a slight malice. 

Natalie had been pondering this question, yet she was still clueless. 

Shaking her head, she replied, “I don’t know either.” 

Sheldon’s eyes were filled with concern as he reminded her, “You’ll have to be more careful next time. Take care of yourself, okay?” 

They might even try a second attempt since their first try didn’t succeed. 

Natalie nodded lightly. She was equally troubled about this. 

“Yes, I’ll have to be more vigilant.” 

The incident took place in a very secluded area, so there weren’t any surveillance 

cameras. 

Even if they wanted to report it to the police, they couldn’t provide any information, 

However, Natalie wouldn’t just let them off the hook. Once she found the person behind this, she would make them pay for it! 

When they arrived at the hospital, Natalie accompanied Sheldon for an examination. 

The doctor misunderstood their relationship because she had been staying patiently next to him for the whole time. 

“Your husband’s injuries…” 

The doctor’s words made Natalie and Sheldon give each other a look. 

Feeling somewhat awkward, she interrupted the doctor, “We’re not a couple. We’re just friends.” 

Sheldon didn’t go out of his way to explain anything. Instead, he just lay there. quietly. 

The doctor smiled sheepishly and continued, “Your friend’s wound is quite serious. He has to stay in the hospital for a few days.” 

“Alright, is there anything else?” Natalie asked. 

“Make sure the wound doesn’t get in contact with water. Also, don’t carry 

anything heavy for this period of time since your right shoulder was injured. Take

As Natalie listened attentively to him, she nodded and said, “Alright, I’ll remember. Thank you.” 

Sheldon was injured because of her. Thus, it would only be right for her to take care of him for the next few days. 

She wasn’t aware that Leonard saw her when she was in the midst of admitting Sheldon to the hospital. 

Leonard misunderstood the entire situation as he saw Natalie was the one 

dealing with the procedures. Furthermore, she didn’t look particularly well either. 

After he got into his car, he called Henry. 

“Henry.” 

“Yeah?” 

“Are you free right now?” 

“What is it?” 

“It seems like Natalie was admitted to the hospital. She’s at the General Hospital now,” Leonard said. 

He could clearly tell that Henry still had feelings for her. Yet, their relationship was rocky. 

As Henry’s friend, he couldn’t bear to see this. 

Henry, who was working overtime at his company, suddenly jolted up and repeated, “What? Is she admitted to the hospital?” 

Wasn’t she completely fine when she went to the Chase residence with him earlier this afternoon? How did she end up in the hospital? 

“Yeah, I saw it with my own eyes! And she’s alone, too. 

“No one’s here to take care of her. She seems so pitiful.” As Leonard went on, he let out a dramatic sigh.
