Chapter 44
Angel and Bryan's class had just ended and they are about to go to the cafeteria to have their lunch.
"I have a meeting with Coach Rico," Bryan said. "You go ahead to the cafeteria."
"Will the meeting be long?"
"I don't think so," Bryan answered. "But if you get hungry, then you can go ahead and eat."
Angel went to the cafeteria alone, but she didn't order her food yet and decided to wait for Bryan. She ordered orange juice, though, and she opened her iPad to continue the e-book she's reading. Then suddenly, someone sat opposite her. Thinking it was Bryan, she turned off her iPad. She was surprised to see another person when she laid her eyes on him.
Joshua Ignacio smiled nervously. "Hi!"
She was too surprised to answer.
Joshua put a white paper bag on the table, pushing it slightly to her. "For you."
Angel took the paper bag and looked inside it. "Gummy bears?"
Joshua nodded. "They're your favorite, right? You even got mad at me when I ate your gummy bears when we were just kids. "
Angel smiled. "Because you didn't ask my permission and just ate them... Thanks for this. You're right, this is one of my favorites." "I'm glad you like them."
"Of course, but, what is this for?"
"Peace offering." Joshua winced. "About what happened with Gina..."
"Oh..." She looked at the paper bag.
"I'm so sorry. I didn't know she'll do that. I mean, Gina is the sweetest."
Angel sighed. "Joshua, I hate to burst your bubble, but Gina is not what you think she is... She is not sweet."
Joshua stared at her.
"She's not that nice to me," Angel continued. "I didn't do anything wrong, but still, she hates me. And I'm not the only one who is saying that her attitude is not nice."
"Actually, Garee also tells me that Gina is not that nice."
"Woman's instinct, I guess," she said. "You should've listened to Garee."
"But, what can I do? I just... really fell for her." Joshua suddenly became sad.
Angel felt pity on him. She can feel that he's telling her the truth. Out of sympathy, she held his hand.
"I know you know how I feel. I know this is also what you feel for Bryan."
"I understand you." Angel smiled at him. "But Josh, if it's not good for you, then I guess, you should not insist on it. You also have to love yourself, you know."
Joshua gazed at her.
"Sometimes, it's not so bad to listen to your friends, to the people who really care for you. Dad said that if you're not happy, then it's not right."
Joshua held her hand that is holding his. "Thank you."
Angel smiled. "We're neighbors, remember?"
"Promise, I will not watch your romantic moments with Bryan again."
Angel laughed at what he said, also because how Joshua pretended to be serious when he delivered that statement.
Joshua eventually laughed. "Me and my curious self. Well, you can't blame me. It's the first time I saw you get intimate with someone."
Angel felt embarrassed at what he said. She felt her face blush.
"But you two really look good together. And I know Bryan de Vera is a good person. Good for you, Neighbor."
She was touched at what he said. Truth is, their families are kind of close. Aside from being neighbors, Joshua's mother is also a partner in MPCF. But because she became introvert because of what happened, they did not become best buddies, or even Jasmin, Joshua's younger sister. As for Alex, she avoided Joshua when he started courting her before.
"Thanks, Josh..." She suddenly remembered something. "So, do you want some gummy bears?"
Both of them laughed together.

Bryan immediately saw Angel as he entered the cafeteria. But he stopped on his tracks when he saw her talking to someone. It was Joshua Ignacio, one of CPRU's certified heartthrobs; and also, the person responsible for what happened to Angel yesterday.
He can't help but feel mad about this guy. And there he is right now, talking to Angel. What could be his purpose? Will he convince Angel to forgive Gina and forget what happened? Bryan felt more annoyed with that thought. But he was shocked when Angel suddenly held Joshua's hand.
'What the hell is happening?'
Whatever it is, he's not liking it. Especially that sympathetic look on Angel's face. Especially when Joshua also held Angel's hand.
His feet seemed to have a life of their own. They walked closer to the two who were laughing with each other.
Angel was the first to see him. "Bry!"
Why does she seem so happy? Like she's unaware that she's doing something he doesn't like.
Joshua is the one who looked affected by his presence. "Bry! Uh... You're here." He stood up, obviously nervous. "Ahm, I just talked to Angel. I'm about to leave as well." Bryan just nodded.
Joshua looked at Angel. "I'll see you around then, Angel?"
"Yes," Angel said with a smiled.
Joshua smiled at her before leaving. That's when Bryan sat down beside his girlfriend.
"How was your meeting?" Angel asked him, still smiling.
"It was fine." Why does it seem like nothing happened? Doesn't it matter that he saw her holding hands with Joshua? The guy just pulled his hand from hers when he saw him arrive. "Are you hungry?"
He couldn't stand not asking her anymore. "Why is Joshua Ignacio talking to you?"
Angel was quite taken aback. Maybe because she was surprised with his sudden questioning. "Ahm, he gave me gummy bears." She showed him the paper bag on the table. "You want some?" "For what?"
"Peace offering. For what happened yesterday."

Everything is getting clear to him now. But still, why would Joshua Ignacio make an effort to do that? "Does he really need to do that?"
Angel shrugged. "We're neighbors. Our families are kind of close because his mother is my parent's business partner. I was just not close to them because they're friends with Garee Gonzales and Nick Jacinto. They are Richard's cousins, right?" Bryan nodded. She has a point.
"When we were younger, their family went to our house. I think they just moved in Moonville that time. I have gummy bears, and Joshua ate some without my permission like we're close or something. So I got mad at him." She laughed at the memory. "I was so dense."
"Because you're a kid," Bryan said. He loves listening to her stories. He loves watching her talk. She's just starting to open up to him. He's loving every second of it.
"You're right." She took a packet of gummy bears from the paper bag. "May we try this gift by Joshua Ignacio." She opened the pack and took some gummy bears and tried them. "Hmn! Try it."
She fed him some gummy bears, and all the jealousy he was feeling earlier all melted.
"They're good, right?" she asked him.
He nodded. How can he not love this simple and childish, yet elegant girl in front of him? So innocent, so unassuming, so real. He can't help but gaze at her.
"You know what? Joshua tried to court Alex before. But Alex rejected him, and in the process, she also avoided Jasmin, Joshua's younger sister. It's a pity because those two girls are very close before."
"How about you? Did he court you?"
"After I got mad at him for eating my gummy bears?" Angel giggled. "Also, I'm not his type. What he likes is someone like Gina. I just hope he can find someone else to like. Someone who can really make him happy. He's also nice, you know. His mischievous sometimes, but he is kind."
Her kindness exudes from her without her knowing it. The emotions that she shows are very real. Her eyes give her away. He just feels so lucky to have her as his girl.
"I feel like eating pimiento pasta with roasted broccoli."
Angel's face lit up. "That's delicious!"
"You want some?"
Angel nodded.
"Let's get some."
"Yey!" Angel excitedly stood up. "Your treat?"
He put his arm on her shoulders. "My treat."
"Uh! My boyfriend is so nice." She put his arm around his waist.
He smiled as he held her more tightly. "Because I have the best girlfriend ever."
