Mathias (#1 The Chronicles of the Demon Wolf)

Chapter 26

The walls crumble down. Lightning struck. The waterfall flows into the diamond palace. When they try to intervene, the Moon Goddess signals them to stand down. The Angels could only stand by, hoping to be allowed to constrain the Goddess of Death.

“Are you afraid, sister?” the Goddess of Death asks as she keeps striking the Moon Goddess. “Are you too afraid to fight me? Your other half.”

The Mood Goddess keeps her silence still while avoiding the attacks. Seeing no response from the Moon Goddess, the Goddess of Death vanishes in thin air just to appear behind one of the Angels. She holds him by his throat, smiling.

“They have nothing to do with any of this,” the Moon Goddess finally speaks. “Leave them be.”

“Oh, now you’re talking,” the Goddess of Death snickers. “Do you know when an Angel dies there is no second chance? Not even your mommy can’t resurrect you back.”

The Angel turns around and tries to attack her only to be subdued immediately by the Goddess of Death’s deadly hit. The effect from the hit could be felt throughout the castle. She holds him by his face and golden energy exits from his mouth, entering into hers. Her eyes flicker from black to violet.

She smiles. “Ah, what an exquisite taste.”

Seeing the fall of their brother, other Angels disobey Moon Goddess’ order and attack the Goddess of Death. One by one, they fall to their demise. The Moon Goddess intercepts before her other half destroys the Kingdom. There are millions of souls living in the entire Kingdom. Those souls were the ones granted of a Heaven by the Moon Goddess herself. If nobody knows any better, the Kingdom just looks like an ordinary kingdom. Everyone is just continuing their daily lives. Majority of them own a ‘job’ just to make themselves feel like earning for a living.

The Moon Goddess emits a blue shield, covering the entire palace to prevent The Goddess of Death from going after those souls. It was worse enough she’s already killed more than a dozen Angels.

“You created me from yourself and yet you are afraid to fight me!” The Goddess of Death yells as she strikes the Moon Goddess repeatedly with fire. “Why aren’t you fighting me?”

The Moon Goddess stops and stares at her other half. The Goddess of Death is all about being bad. The Moon Goddess is all about being good. When she separated her bad self from her good self, that’s it. There’s no more bad left in her good self. She became benevolent. But her bad self would forever become malevolent.

“Stop avoiding the fight!” the Goddess of Death roars. Her fire soars into the entire palace.

When a piece of broken crystal fell from the ceiling and hit her arm, the Goddess of Death still couldn’t feel pain. But, something else happened to the Moon Goddess. Golden-colored blood drops to the floor. The Moon Goddess has a small wound on her arm, the exact spot where the crystal piece originally hit the Goddess of Death’s arm.

“Ah, now I know why you’re avoiding fighting me,” The Goddess of Death says, smiling. “If you inflict damage to me, I’m not the only one injured. You’d get injured too.” she straightens her posture. “This shall be fun.”

With that, she inflicts fire damage to her own arm causing the Moon Goddess feeling immersed pain. The Goddess of Death doesn’t feel any slight of pain but it’s a different story for the Moon Goddess.

“Not a surprise anymore,” Mathias says after Zeke introduced himself. “What did you do to Sebastian?”

Mathias refused to accept Eva’s mate is actually Zeke. With the current circumstances, there is a possibility that Zeke occupied Sebastian’s body while the latter is in an unknown situation.

“He is somewhere within…” Zeke replies smugly. “So you three are the offspring of Mira Red.”

“The Knight of Death is no more,” Ryker says.

“Strange isn’t it?” Zeke walks to the broken stone table. “This was where your mother killed my master.”

“Alistair was no master,” Tanto responds. “He was a coward who wanted to terrorize everyone.”

In a blink of an eye, Zeke flies to Tanto. Mathias attacks Zeke before he could reach Tanto who is ready for a fight. Zeke’s appearance changes immediately. Horns grow on his forehead while his dark hair turns dark red, resembling the color of blood. His eyes darkened while wings unfurled behind him. He is truly resembling a demon from hell. Not just a demon. He’s a warrior type, wielding a flaming pitchfork.

Mathias and Tanto shift into their lycan form and bring the fight forth to Zeke. The younger brother hisses when Zeke makes a swift cut on his arm. The blade burns Tanto’s wound and slows down his healing.

“Be careful of his blade. We might have an Angel’s blood in our vein but it’s not enough to make us immune to the blades forged in Hell,” Mathias warns his brother.

Just like that, Mathias and Tanto battle against Zeke while Ryker watches Arthur who suddenly shows no interest in getting involved in the fight. That makes Ryker think hard. After all those planning and executing plans, suddenly Arthur just becomes docile. He just stands there, not even a slightest move. Why? It’s impossible Arthur just lost interest to execute the rest of his plan. He wanted revenge against Mathias but why now he’s just standing idle there?

“It’s a diversion,” Ryker finally deduces. “You’re just distracting us.”

Arthur smiles. “The next question you should be asking is distracting you from what.” he glances over Ryker’s shoulders. “Your brothers are pretty occupied to think straight.”

He turns around and goes into the dense forest without looking back. While Mathias and Tanto are busy battling against Zeke, Ryker goes into the dense forest to follow Arthur. Ryker keeps following the daemon until they reach a cliff where Arthur suddenly vanishes in thin air. Planning to find the daemon once more, something else piques Ryker’s interest about the cliff.

The smell of dried blood.

Before he investigates the source of the putrid smell, Ryker looks around just to make sure nothing is lurking in the bushes waiting for the right time to strike him. His demon wolf’s senses keep tingling by the eerie atmosphere surrounding the area.

Keeping himself calm and collected, he tries to recall seeing a map of this area. As far as he could remember, there isn’t a cliff this near to the altar where his mother killed Alistair many years ago.

Ryker braves himself to peer over the cliff. His heart almost stops when he sees what’s at the bottom of the cliff.

Mountain of corpses.

“This time you won’t be able to save everyone,” Arthur says as he suddenly stands next to Ryker. “Not even the Angels.”

Those are the corpses of Angels.
