Chapter Chapter FIFTEEN
The night of the gala was particularly hot. I wasn't exactly sweating in my suit, but still, as we got out of the car with Jude, the soft breeze felt like a blessing. Many things were running through my mind before we arrived, but as soon as we stepped foot in the mansion, I felt my senses slowly getting their entire focus on my goal and nothing else. It was a similar feeling as in hell, I just somehow fell back into the role I was supposed to play for now, and it went like it was second nature to me. I knew who I was hunting for, and even though I had never done anything like this before, being the hunter was just an instinct to me, I had yet to explore fully.
Harvis was going to be here that's for sure, but so far all I've noticed was a lot of people in expensive clothes, drinking probably expensive alcohol from their fancy glasses while having a chit-chat about the weather. "Remember dear, just make small talk with Harvis for now, maybe flirt a little... don't be too obvious" Jude whispered lowly, and since he didn't speak until now, I took it as a sign that he already noticed Harvis... My eyes followed his in the crowd until' that handsome rat finally showed himself to me. Champaign in hand, and an elegant, gloomy blue suit, matching his aesthetic of being a rich bastard. His hair pushed back perfectly fitted on his skull, and a slight beard making him appear older than he was.
As for my partner, I didn't even have to look at him, to feel his strengthening presence. I felt some sort of safety and power, with darkness lingering around me, possessively standing near me at any given moment, like an obsessive guard dog, showing he teeth to anyone who threatened his territory.
Little did he know, I wasn't his property. Jude is just a pawn; in the grand scheme of this game, I want to play.
"I waited too long to mess this up Jude, don't worry" I reassured him, leaving his side while not taking my eyes off Harvis. He can change his name, but his face, oh that repulsive face will never leave my mind.
As I was making my way through the crowd, not hurrying, but not slow either, someone bumped into me, and I had to bend over to balance myself hitting a firm chest by accident.
"Bloody hell" I growled, as I slowly lifted my head, feeling a cold liquid pour down from my hair onto my face and to my shoulders, wetting my expensive suit.
Harvis was staring at me apologetically, his glass now completely empty. A little bit went on his shirt as well, and for a little while, we both just tried to detect the damage.
I fought the urge to grin, as things, for a change, were going my way in an almost unrealistic manner. I gave him a crooked smile, before introducing myself, by taking his hand to shake it.
"Jeremy Stones" I said with a slight smile, licking off a little bit of champaign off the side of my lips "I'm so sorry, someone pushed me into you, sir" I added, while Harvis slowly eyed me up, giving me a charming smirk in return.
Jude has told me all about the rumours, that he had a thing for younger boys, despite him being almost 40 by now... But what the demon didn't know, is that I did not need these vague gossips to know his true nature... I, after all, had an unfortunate run-in with his predatory behaviour very early on. He never touched me that way, but he did enough to be on my list.
"Please accompany me to the washroom, I'll help to clean your shirt before it dries. I'd feel so bad if the stain would stay" I lied with an innocent smile while gently placing my hand on his shoulder, signalling for us to go. His eyes twinkled with interest, though I could tell he didn't know yet, what my intentions were, so he wasn't bold with his reaction, just nodded along, and led me to the bathroom.
It was as fancy as the rest of the house, but not quite like in hell, nothing could top Lucifer's palace after all. No one was in here now, which gave me slight anxiety, but I just rolled along with the plan. Just a little flirting... the accident wasn't even my part of my original plan, so it really could seem like this was not my intention at all. I slowly unbuttoned my completely ruined shirt, as I took my jacket off as well, and while doing so I wetted one of the small hand towels and stepped to Harvis, trying to wash the stain out of his white undershirt.
"You are a pretty free-spirited young-man, aren't you Mr Stones?" he asked with a small smile, probably referring to the fact that I started to undress without a second thought.
"What is there to be ashamed of?" I retorted a little melodically, softening my voice to give it a more sensual approach. I could feel that he was wrapped around my finger already, and my blood boiled with sadistic excitement, knowing in a few days or weeks, his heart won't beat any longer... I'll take his breath away; in the most horrifying way I can think of. I gave my soul for this bastard to be at my feet, begging for his filthy life, and damn sure I'll have it.
"You look a little younger than the rest, Mr Stones..." he mumbled a little huskily, as he led a hand down my side, but only touching me enough so I would get the message... What a gentleman really. I felt the urge to roll my eyes, but I managed to deny. I shall make him a little horny, before we part, so he'll come back for more later...
I leaned in close to him, but since he was taller, I had to really straighten up to get near his face.
"I could show just how you--"
"OH, there is no way! I didn't think we'd meet again!" We both glanced at the sudden interrupter, especially because I didn't even hear the bathroom door opening. A tall, handsome man stood there, with soft, puppy-like face, big blue eyes and golden curly hair. He wore a white suit to match his prince-charming cosplay too, and he was staring at me as if he had met a celebrity.
"Do we know each---"
"Oh my, oh my, you already forget about me? How hurtful... Well, I suppose you are very popular amongst people, so there is not much to do about it, huh?" He kept going on, his voice velvet and perfect, a happy melody to the ears. Before I could've done anything other than gaping at him confusedly, he gently grabbed my arm and flashed an apologetic smile towards Harvis.
"I really have to talk to him, I'm sorry" he seemed sincere, and I also glanced at Harvis, signalling that we will meet again, just before the stranger dragged me out of the bathroom, to the particularly dark hallway of the mansion. He quickly started buttoning my shirt up, not even looking at my chest as if it was a sin to just see my upper body.
"You shouldn't use your body like that" he said quietly, having a slight pity in his voice, which somehow raised my blood pressure.
"I hate to break it to you, but we don't know each other, and you have no fucking business with how I use my body." I hissed, irritated and angry that he had ruined my plans, and I just didn't understand how and why this lunatic found me just
now.
"It's alright, I didn't intend to offend you." he apologised softly, searching my eyes with his peaceful gaze. This sort of pure kindness left me uncomfortable every time when I saw it, it was unnatural for humans.
"You didn't offend me, but you made a mistake" I sighed deeply, not really knowing how to be angry at such a joke of an adult man. How can someone be so soft, is fresh out of the womb?
"Oh, it could happen, but you know, I do not look at things like that as mistakes. You seem like a bright young man. I'm glad I've run into you"
This is weird. I rolled my eyes, not even aiming to control my cringing, before turning to walk back to the main hall.
"You are creepy. We don't know each other, please stop talking to me" I informed him dryly, as he caught up next to me, with the same cult-smile on his face.
He didn't reply, just walked beside me, so I slowly gave up getting rid of him. Something about that strange man reminded me of Veronica... maybe their golden hair, or the deep blue eyes. Or the softness of them... The way they looked at me.

They look at me as if I was something that needed help.
Oh, how I hated that pitiful gaze. I'd rather burn in hell accepted than to be fixed in heaven.
"What's your name?" I questioned, as we got back into the hall. He gently brushed a golden lock behind his ears.
"Leon. What's yours then?" he stopped at the very edge of the room, letting us have a little bit of distance from the crowd, which he eyed up pretty suspiciously as if he was looking for someone.
"Uhm... Jeremy" I gave him a fake name and his eyes betrayed that he knew it but didn't say anything.
"I saw you arrived with another gentleman... Where is he now?" at this point, it was clear that this guy stalked me the whole night, but I didn't let my unsureness show. I leaned against the marble wall, and let my gaze search the room. "Are you hitting on me, Leon?" he deeply blushed, but not in a flustered way, more like with deep shame or almost anger as he shook his head.
"Listen up Seth, meet me here. I know you have questions, and I can answer most of them" he suddenly slipped a card into my palms in a hurry, and I glanced at it, getting more confused by the second. He knew my real name... and what questions is he talking about?
The card contained the name of a café and the time of the meeting. I slipped it into my pocket, just before I looked back at Leon, only to see him glaring right ahead.
"What an unpleasant surprise" Jude purred in a seductive, yet hateful, mocking tone. His words weren't directed towards me though, he stood Leon's glare with a lazy smirk, while he walked up to me, wrapping his arm around my waist, pulling me to his side.
"Seth, I thought it's best if we go home now..." he added gently, but I heard the edge in his tone.
"It was a pleasure meeting you, young man" Leon offered me a little forced, but warm smile, before turning his gaze to Jude again.
"Judas" he addressed him with a strange stillness, and pain in his voice. I never heard anyone calling Jude by that name, so I was a tad bit confused, but Leon didn't say anything else, before turning away and leaving. I decided I would meet him again... He might have some valuable information to me.
"Who was that?" I questioned nonchalantly, but Jude didn't look at me, he was glaring after the man, with a strange bitterness.
"A crazy person. He follows us around for a while, but I didn't want to tell you. He is harmless, just keep away from him" he stated, obviously lying. I didn't tell him I saw through him, just nodded along as if I wasn't suspicious.

We didn't talk at all on the way home, though there was a lot to unpack. Who was that man? And why did he oh-so conveniently interrupt my attempts to seduce Harvis? "How did it go with Harvis?" Jude asked, as I sat down on the couch, and started to undress, keeping my gaze on the demon.
"Great... he's on the hook" I concluded with a collected smile. Jude's eyes were more observing tonight than they usually were, probably because of our meeting with Leon. He didn't know about the card, and if it's up to me, he never will. "Did that man say anything weird to you? You seem a little... dreamy" he admitted with a caring smile. I knew he was trying to manipulate me into telling him everything, but unfortunately for him, I could detect his ways. He sat down beside me, helping me untie my tie.
"He was crazy... he said a lot of weird things. None of which I can recall" I reassured. Our eyes met and we were staring at each other for a while. For a second, I thought he knew I was lying, but then he suddenly gave me a satisfied smile, so I concluded that he believed me.
"I need to buy something tomorrow. I'll go alone. It's a surprise" I said suddenly, an innocent smile flashing on my lips.
"Sure thing." he agreed easily, but he rarely ever stopped me from going anywhere, at least not with words, so I wasn't worried. I had one last question for the night, so I opened my mouth again.
"Is your real name Judas? Like in... the bible?"
He chuckled at the way I phrased that question and ran his fingers through his black hair. He waited for a little to raise my curiosity before he began:
"There is a... prophecy amongst demons and angels... It speaks of Judas, the embodiment of evil and all that is bad. A few demons call me by that name, because my mark, the one that you see on your neck, is very similar to the one that this so-called Judas possesses."
I held my breath, listening to him. I found it incredibly interesting to know demons had mythologies just as well as humans did.
"What else does the prophecy say about Judas?" I question, pulling my knees up, so I could hug them while I listened to him.
"Well, as the old language phrases it, Evil falls in love with Chaos. I honestly don't remember more; I just liked that line... But anyway, I don't know how that man knew all this. He wasn't a demon..."
Jude didn't tell me more, yet I was kind of enthralled by the thought. I also didn't think Jude could be the embodiment of all that is evil... that is a far stretch for sure, but still, quite an interesting story. That night I went to sleep a little less nervous... I knew Lucifer will show up my dreams, but tonight, I felt ready to fight him for some reason.
