Madilynne

Chapter Limits

Madilynne's P.O.V

Faint laughter, what sounded like off in the short distance stirred me awake. Exhaustion gripping me, I just want to roll over and sleep but the laughter continued. Cracking open my eyes, everything was white. I looked around but there was nothing. I heard the child-like laughter sound again, “Hello? Is someone there?” The laughter slowly grew quieter, until I heard nothing.

Voices were whispering, I looked around, but there was no one. Where the hell am I?

“My name is Kade what’s yours?” a voice giggled in reply “I’m Madi, want to play with us, Kade?” I remember that day, a Green-eyed, brown-haired boy was swinging alone by himself. Katie and I had walked over to him and he introduced himself. My first memory of Kade.

Kade.

Oh, goddess, panic instantly filled my senses ‘Kade?’ I waited for a response but got nothing in return. I need to wake up, he has to be okay! “Wake up Madi, anytime now!” I pinched and slapped my self trying to encourage my mind to wake from Its restful state.

Suddenly memories of my childhood, of my painful past, and present were zipping by like I was in a cinema and my life was the main show.. Voices and feelings bombarding my head, “Stop. No. MAKE IT STOP” “Please, stop.” I whimpered, curling into myself trying to put the slightest distance from the noise in my head.

“Madi” A voice called in the distance.

“Madi” The same melodic voice chanted, growing closer.

“My child, we need to speak.” The voice so soothing, coached me to look up, and I did.

A face of eternal beauty glowed, skin youthful, voice melodic and silky, yet motherly all the same. She wore a gown that shimmered as it flowed freely without a breeze. “You have to make a choice my child.”

“A choice?” I choked out. What is going on! “Who are you and where am I?” I blurted out, panic rising in my voice.

“I am known by many names, Some choose to call me Moon Goddess, but you may call me Selene if you wish. Now Calm down child, you’re here because of the choices you’ve made. Healing as many as you did from a near-death state comes at a price, your life force was almost non-existent before I intervened.”

Goddess I almost died, wait. Kade. Tears began to well inside my eyes, moments away from bursting. No, if he were dead he would be here, wherever here is right? “Your Mate lives Madilynne, now, you must decide. You have the choice to return and finish your destiny and live out your days or come with me.”

My life hasn’t been all cupcakes and rainbows but I had a future, one I could see Kade in. One I yearned for. One I would fight for. The Afterlife be damned, I won’t go down without a fight. If I had a choice I would always choose a life with Kade no matter the outcome. Every. Damn. Time.

I looked up to Selene, gathering my remaining strength I rose from where I sat ” I choose to live. I choose Kade.”

“Very well, know that next time you will not be as fortunate, I can not intervene anymore. Destiny has its ways of correcting wrongs. Know your limits child, learn from this. Remember your path and when the time comes you’ll know what to do, the strength lies within you.” She spoke with conviction, a tone that held no room for argument. I simply nodded my head and accepted what may be in store for me. She leaned in and placed a feather-light kiss on top of my head “You are blessed, my child. Use it well.”

My eyes fluttered shut against my will, everything turning black, the white serene surroundings disappearing like they never existed.

“Wake my child, it is time now.” A voice echoed, it carried to my ears like it was underwater.

A slight discomfort started in my wrists, tingling at first. Next came the smell of flesh being singed, with another that burned my senses. The discomfort in my wrist turned into a more raw but mild burning sensation, I tried to pull away from it but was met with resistance.

Peeking open my eyes, a figure I couldn’t make out sat chained to a wall at the wrists directly across from me. I tried to scent the air but something was causing each inhale to burn. My vision started to focus, the figure becoming more clear now.

I tried to rush over to her, but my arms were chained to the wall above me, only realizing now. “Katie?” I hoarsely choked out, my voice sounded like nails against a chalkboard. I inwardly cringed at my own voice. Who knew how long I was out this time. She groaned in response, it’s Katie.

“What happened, where are we?” It hurt to speak but I needed to know. I couldn’t scent my surroundings, and I didn’t recognize anything. And for the love of Goddess, why am I chained to a wall? Katie remained silent. I closed my eyes and tried to think back to what happened before passing out. Or dying I should say? I remember finding Kade on the ground injured. I remember healing him. Touching him, for what I pray won’t be the last..

Wait there was a scent. The scent, it was familiar.

Cedarwood and amber, even before I was a wolf I could place that scent to a face. No no no no! This can’t be happening!

‘Kade!’ Goddess please hear me, please.

‘Madi?’ His voice was silky, but carried sadness.

‘Kade please listen to me, It’s Miles I don’t know how he found me but he’s got us chained to a wall. I can’t move..’ I rushed through the fragile mind link.

I could hear his furious howl boom in my mind, I could feel his rage.

‘Listen Madi I need you to look around, tell me what you see. Can you smell anything? hear anything familiar? I will find you love, and ill end the bastard myself.’

‘I see nothing, I’m in a dark room, no wait it’s a cell. There’s no light, I hear water dripping in the distance but nothing else. I can’t smell anything it burns my lungs to inhale..’

Kade snarled ‘He’s using silver to chain you, I can only assume the cell is coated in silver or wolfsbane also.’

A heavy door slammed open, and his scent instantly filled any available space, choking my senses. Fear coursed through my body.

“I can smell your fear, Madi.” His sinister voice bounced off every direction on the walls, surrounding me. The echo making me feel trapped. I tried to push further into the wall.

‘Kade he’s coming please find me!’ I cried through our mind link.
