Chapter Adapting to Changes
Madilynne's P.O.V
Dad opened the door, and standing there was the strange girl dad told us about. She was beautiful but looked like she could take out 10 grown men, or wolves at once. She had caramel brown hair that flowed to her waist, her body was shaped like an hourglass, any girl my age would kill for that figure. Her skin was tanned, and her eyes were the kind of blue that made you think of the Caribbean ocean. The beautiful stranger met my gaze with her piercing blue eyes “Ah, you must be Madi.” Her lips tilted with a warm smile.
“That’s me, Sorry, didn’t catch your name?” I said while extending my hand to properly introduce myself. She responded back with her own outstretched hand and pulled me in for a hug instead. I stiffened at the sudden embrace from a stranger. “I’m Mya, I’ve heard a lot about you. I’m looking forward to training you.”
“All good things I hope.” I said with a small nervous laugh. “So Mya, where are you from? When do we start?” I fired off my questions. Mya looked over my shoulder to my dad and I saw him nod out of the corner of my eye. What’s that about? “Quite the eager and curious wolf aren’t we?” She said with a snicker.
“I’m from the Red Moon pack, Your mother’s home pack. Our moms were best friends, Kami was like an aunt to me before she found Alpha Finn.” She paused long enough for me to let the new information of my mom sink in. I mean, I know dad is a shifter, and Mom was too I just never knew anyone to be close to her aside from Katie’s parents. “I’d like to start your training as soon as possible.”
I nodded my head at Mya. “Oh I had no idea, how old were you when..” I trailed off not wanting to finish the question. “10, I was 10 years old. We miss her every day ya’ know? I’m sorry for your loss Madi.” She spoke with a sad smile. “Yeah, me too.” I replied looking away from her. “I’m going to head upstairs and change real quick, meet you outside in 15 Mya?” I said with a sigh. ” I’ll be there.” Mya replied.
I turned and headed to my room, Kade falling in step behind me. We didn’t say anything, just walked in silence to my room, Kade’s presence alone didn’t make me feel so alone in this. I think he followed me to my room because he knew I needed him. No words, just him. When we reached my room I stopped abruptly and hugged him. This overwhelming need to just touch him. “I’d like to think somewhere up there, she’s sitting with the moon goddess right now, watching you. She’d be proud of the strong wolf you’re becoming, Madi. Don’t be sad she’s not here, instead be happy that you have the memories you do have of her. She wouldn’t want you to be sad.” Kade said while gently lifting my chin up with his finger. “I know, it’s just hard sometimes you know? I miss her so much kade.” I smiled slightly at his trying to lift my spirit, even though the smile didn’t quite meet my eyes.
I sighed “Thanks Kade, it’s going to take time but ill get there one day. i’m going to get changed.”
“I’ll be here, every step of the way for you Madi.” Kade spoke as he gently pressed a kiss to my head. I closed my eyes and let myself sink into this moment, as brief as it was. I turned to my room and closed the door behind me.
Since I’d be training with Mya this morning I decided to put on some black workout shorts and a grey t-shirt. Both articles of clothing were relaxed, loose-fitting. Not too tight, but tight enough to show my figure. By the looks of Mya, I’m sure she was going to work me to the bone today so I didn’t want to wear something too restrictive. I laced up my black tennis shoes and threw my hair into a messy bun, and now I was ready.
Kade waited outside my door for me, and we walked outside where I’d be meeting Mya for my training. When we made it outside I had to stop to admire all the beautiful colors that the beginning of fall brought. Green leaves were starting to change their colors, closing my eyes, I took in a deep breath of the fresh fall air and exhaled. I could hear birds flying freely overhead and small tickles coming from the river nearby that sat behind my home, Calmness washed over me. I took my time really admiring the beauty that surrounded me. Kade gave me a warm smile when I finally opened my eyes.
While I was lost in Kade’s gaze I heard a twig snap from somewhere behind me, I didn’t see anyone around when we came out so I immediately became alert to the sudden break in the calming nature. Kade didn’t seem to take notice of the sound, I was on edge now. I turned around, and just as I did I was tackled by none other than Mya. I snarled at her tactics “What the hell was that?!” Mya jumped up and dusted herself off and shrugged “Keeping you on your toes, testing out your senses. ya’ know the norm. Green eyes over there didn’t seem to even hear a sound as I approached, your senses seem to be sharper than most wolves. But we need to work on your alertness and reaction time.” She said casually while gesturing towards Kade. He shrugged and said ” Yeah sorry didn’t hear ya coming.”
Shortly after being tackled, Mya started off my training. To improve my alertness and reaction time Mya decided to blindfold me so I could only rely on my hearing. While I was blindfolded Mya took a stick from the ground and swung at me, the first few strikes took me by surprise and left a hot sting in their wake. I let out a warning growl after every hit. “Don’t think of the pain, listen. Anticipate the next movement.” I took in a deep breath and cleared my head, I listened to my surroundings. I heard a swishing sound break through the air and slap against my upper arm, I hissed at the sudden pain. I grit my teeth and I could hear Kade growl, anyone could decipher that as a warning, to Mya. “Chill out lover boy, she needs to learn.” Mya snapped back. “Could ya maybe not hit so hard?” I said trying to keep the irritation out of my voice. “No.” I could hear the branch zip through the air, it sounded like it was aimed directly at my head. Out of instinct, I reacted quickly snatching the branch out of the air and broke it in half where my hand gripped it. “Finally!” Mya hollered sounding way too jubilated for just beating the shit out of me with a branch.
