Chapter Chapter Twelve

The next morning Eve woke up to a strong wave of nausea. She dragged herself out of bed as the sun began rising. After gasping and gagging in the bathroom for a several minutes, she slowly made her way back into the bedroom.

Flint was sleeping soundly. He didn't notice the uneven steps of his mate or the paleness of her skin. Eve couldn't concentrate, she was too dizzy. Suddenly the world turned upside down in her eyes before vanishing into nothing.

*THUD*

The sound caused Flint to stir. He sleepy threw his arm to the side only for his hand to be met by the cold, empty mattress. His eyes shot open. He expected to find Eve beside him but she was gone. Flint peered at the bathroom door. It was cracked open and the light was off.

"Eve?" He sat up and turned on the lamp beside him.

The Luna's motionless body came into view at the foot of the bed.

"Eve!" He yelled as he leapt from the bed to kneel beside her.

Flint pulled her into his lap. He could feel that both she and her wolf were sleeping. The Alpha was unable to reach into her mind. Panic coursed through him.

"Eve! Wake up! Now!" He commanded loudly.

The bedroom door swung open as Anna rushed in. She took in the scene in front of her with a disconcerting amount of calm. Flint was on his knees in his underwear, holding the Luna's limp body. The large t-shirt she wore was wet with sweat and her skin was incredibly pale.

"Alpha?" She interjected.

"Get my phone. Call an ambulance. Now." He commanded.

Anna ran to the bedside table and grabbed the device.

"Eve, baby. Come on." Flint whispered.

Her eyes closed tighter, as if she were coming back to reality. A moment later, she lazily opened her lids.

"Flint..." Her voice was thin.

"Anna. Hang up the phone." Flint stated over his shoulder.

"What happened?" Eve cleared her throat and rubbed her forehead in confusion.

"I woke up and you were on the floor." He replied as he pulled her into a tight hug.

"Are you alright, Luna?" Anna knelt beside them.

"I... I think I fainted." Eve thought aloud.

"Should I call the hospital again?" The specialist probed.

"No. The humans can't really help her anyway." Flint answered for her.

Anna furrowed her brows. Something was clearly going on that she wasn't aware of, and the Alpha couple were clearly not going to explain.

"We'll meet you downstairs." He stated in an even tone.

Anna left, closing the door behind her. Flint was still examining his mate, looking for injuries or visible sickness.

"Are you okay?" He asked quickly.

"I think so." She sat up a bit though her mate refused to let her support her own weight. "I was nauseous so I got up to go to the bathroom. Then I got dizzy..."

"I'm calling Doctor Mills." Flint lifted her into his arms and stood to sit her on the bed.

"I'm okay, Flint. Really. I can walk." Eve reassured him.

"I know. Just sit still for me." He opened his screen and quickly dialed a number.

A moment later, the doctor answered. She sounded as if she had just woken up herself.

"Hello? Doctor Emily Mills." She greeted the caller sleepily.

"This is Alpha Flint Dolan." His deep voice jerked her awake.

"A-alpha! Is everything alright?" The doctor sounded immediately more awake.

"No. Eve fainted this morning. I don't know for how long." Flint replied.

"I don't think it was long..." Eve stated.

"Has the diet been effective? Has she still been vomiting?" As the doctor spoke she was put on speaker phone.

"We found a diet that works for her but she threw up this morning before she passed out. Don't tell me this is normal. It isn't." Flint answered stiffly.

"She has only started eating regular amounts recently. That could be the cause. This being her first pregnancy may mean it's a difficult one for her. I don't want you to worry. Bring her to the office, I can meet you there." Emily rambled quickly.

"We aren't currently in GreenTree. It'll take a few hours to-"

"Wait." Eve interrupted him. "How common are dizzy spells during the early months of pregnancy? I feel fine now."

Flint narrowed his gaze on her. He could feel her reluctance to return to pack territory before meeting Denise and Randy Taylor. He disagreed. To him, this mattered less than her health.

"Some women experience dizzy spells. Creating a pup puts the body through tremendous amounts of stress. But Luna, I would also like to test you for hypertension and run some more bloodwork." Emily answered carefully.

"Can I set my appointment for two days away? Is that dangerous? I feel fine. Really." Eve replied.

"Eve..." Flint looked at her with frustration clear on his expression.

"I can schedule you whenever you feel comfortable." The doctor replied hesitantly.

"Today." The Alpha replied.

"No. Monday will be fine." Eve interjected.

"Eve, no. This is dangerous." Flint ignored the doctor who had fallen into an uncomfortable silence on the phone.

"Emily, do patients usually rush in after a single fainting spell?" The Luna probed.

"First time parents are usually more nervous about dizzy spells..." She was obviously reluctant to answer.

"Let's pretend I'm not your Luna and Flint isn't an angry Alpha who's staring me down right now, okay?" Eve sighed.

"A-alright?" The doctor replied nervously.

"A first time mother has been vomiting and losing weight. She gets her diet figured out but she faints for a few minutes shortly after. Would you have that woman come into your office for immediate tests?" She asked.

"... No, Luna. I would tell her to come in when her schedule allowed but to make it soon. If this happened again, she would be rushed in." Emily hesitantly replied.

Eve could feel Flint's eyes burrowing into her. He was worried about her and he was unwilling to wait for answers. Still, the Luna had her own ideas for what was best for her. And her mate knew that.

"Thank you so much. You can relax, okay? I can feel how uncomfortable you are. Everything is fine." Eve spoke in a soothing tone.

She had been Luna long enough to do more than just read the mindlink and send short instinctive messages. She could also touch the worries of others, and effect them. If only slightly.

"Of course, Luna." Emily released a breath in relief.

"If you could please schedule me an appointment for Monday morning, Flint and I would appreciate it." As she spoke her mate scoffed loudly and crossed his arms over his chest.

"Will do. If this happens again, call me immediately. I want you to start eating more now that the diet is working for you. Constantly is okay for a few days until we get your levels back up to normal. You haven't been eating regularly in some time." The doctor was obviously more at ease.

"Absolutely. Thanks again. Bye, Doc." Eve hung up the phone and turned to face Flint's agitation.

"What the hell are you thinking right now?" The Alpha sat on the bed and gave her a stern look.

"I'm thinking; I've been lightheaded from not being able to keep anything down for weeks and I fainted." Eve replied calmly.

"Eve." He said her name like a warning.

"Stop. Don't do that, Flint." She put her hands on his knees to let him feel her warmth. "I'm okay. We have to go to Summerville. As soon as we're through there, you can rush me to the doctor. Okay?"

He didn't answer. He just stared at her intensely. If the Alpha had given this look to any other wolf, their inner beast would have been intimidated and they would not have been able to gaze back into his eyes.

Eve was different. She had been marked by Flint, so she and her wolf shared in his strength. It frustrated him beyond belief to feel her wolf sitting in her mind, calm and steadfast in her opinions. Even when under his influence.

It was the calm assured, the feelings emanating from her that prevented him from getting angry at her disobedience. That, and the warm electric pulse produced by even the mildest of her touches.

The Luna could feel his mind softening to her and she smiled at him lovingly. She knew that his every instinct was telling him to protect her, and she couldn't fault him for that. If she were in his place, Eve knew she would do anything to keep him healthy and safe.

"Just a day. Okay?" She gently squeezed his knees.

"One day." Flint eventually stated.

"Thank you." Eve beamed before kissing him on the cheek. "I love you, you know?"

Flint wrapped her in his arms, holding her tightly.

We love you too, little thing. The Alpha wolf's gruff animalistic voice crossed Eve's mind like a warm wind.
