Imperium: Volume 1

Chapter 17.

It's been a few days since I was asked to start instructing the younger trainees. Things also seemed to be picking up the last few days in the shelter, and I sensed something big was coming. I barely saw Raeve during these last few days as Harry had him running all over the place. That didn't take away from us trying to get a glance at eachother here and there.

I kept to my schedule of instructing the class in the morning, and tried finding other ways to keep myself busy. I even got into target practise, as Davidson gave me a carry on. I preferred my knife, but all the instructors carried one, as we were considered Rangers.

Which meant if something went down, we were in charge of certain groups, and the first to show up on scene, if there was ever an attack. This position was given to alot of Imperiums, as we were more equipped in protecting the safety of others.

At the moment I had just finished instructing my trainees. Bowdie was excelling far more better then I would have thought, and even started helping me with the younger ones. It had only been a few days, but I was already getting to know the other kids and some of their abilities.

The one who could levitate objects, was a telekinetic user. His name was Hudson, and he was an intriguing boy to say the least. He was interested in engineering and I was constantly finding him on the hanger floor, when he wasn't in class. Another Imperium that was in my training group was a 13 year old girl who went by the name of Indie. Her ability, was being able to harness electricity like her father Harry. She was already well advanced in using her ability, so alot of her training was for hand to hand combat and weapons training. The last Imperium in my class was another girl, about the same age as Bowdie, and her ability allowed her to have perfect vision in any given situation. Her name was Oaken. There were a few more kids, that weren't Imperiums much like Bowdie but they proved to be valuable in the sense that they worked twice as hard in training. Some even surpassing the adults in other sessions.

I was proud to be part of such a group of kids. I was packing up the equipment when Davidson made his way over to me.

"June, Harry would like to see you in his office." He said. "I'll take care of this, you go, it's seems pretty urgent."

"Okay thank you." I said as I made my way to his office.

There seemed to be many people making there way in and out of the hallway. As I approached his office I could see Kipsky standing outside talking to a few of his men. Then all of a sudden Raeve came storming out of Harry's office. I don't even think he saw me, as he passed me and didn't say anything. I just watched him as he made his way out from the hall.

"June." I heard a voice say.

I turned back to see Harry waving me into his office. I walked in and Kipsky followed. I could see maps and blueprints sprawled all over Harry's desk. The atmosphere in the room was dreary, and I just stood there unsure of what was going down.

"June, thank you for coming." Said Harry.

I looked him over, then I looked at Kipsky who gave me a wink from across the room. Harry pulled a blue print from the pile and set it on top. I walked over and took a look.

"I'm sorry I have to tell you with such short notice June but we just got word from an inside man at the Capital that General Elias, will be making his way through the city, so it's bumped up our plans ahead of schedule." He told me.

I looked at him. "What plans?" I asked.

"We plan on going in." He said.

I looked at him, and quickly looked at Kipsky, who had that menacing grin.

"We are going to need you in case there is heavy fire. I havn't seen it for myself but Raeve informed me that you can conjure up force fields." He just looked at me and I nodded. "I can fill you in all the details shortly, but I need you to familiarize yourself with these blue prints." Harry told me.

I looked at them, and recognized them as the main central building that housed all the top officials. I scanned over them reading each and every room that made up the building.

"Now, you wouldn't have to do anything other then covering our assets as they make there way in. The goal is to go in and out." He said.

"What is it that we're doing?" I asked.

"Cutting the head off the snake." Said Kipsky.

I looked at him and looked back to the blueprints scanning every inch of it. Harry was still talking, when I came across a section of the print that read Prisoners Bay.

Dad!

"Now, I'm giving you a choice whether this is somethi-"

I cut him off before he even gave me the choice.

"When do we go!?" I said sternly.

He paused. "Tomorrow night."

"Can I get a copy of this?" I asked as I pointed to the print.

"Yes. I'll have it sent to your unit." He told me.

I turned to leave, when Harry called out to me. "Raeve won't be going on this one."

I looked at Kipsky. This is what he was talking about. I passed him a look, fully aware what both our intentions were. I then looked to Harry.

"Understood." Then made my way out.

I felt a sudden surge build up in the pit of my stomach. The thought of hitting this pivotal moment, was now in my grasp. Just one more night, and he would be in my arms.

I raced back to my unit, awaiting for the copy of the blueprints, setting my gun and knife on the counter. It felt like they couldn't get here fast enough, as I was anxiously pacing back and forth in my room. I even left the door slightly open, as so they could walk right in.

"Tell me you didn't." Said Raeve appearing out of nowhere.

I just looked at him, then looked down while I continued to pace the room.

"What were you thinking of June!? This is exactly the type of shit that I was talking about, and you said yes of all things." He said in angered tone.

"Raeve, please." I said as I continued to pace. The feeling in my stomach now crawling up to my chest.

"June! If you think I'm going to let you go, you have another thing coming. It's a fucking suicide mission!"

"Raeve, please I have to go." I told him.

I put my hand to my chest to try and slow down my breathing. Not here...not here. I pushed back up against the wall.

"June talk to me!" He said as he made his way over to me.

"Raeve don't! You need to back away. Get out of here!" I yelled at him.

My eyes were burning at this point, and the only relief I would get was from releasing it.

"June, your having a panic attack, you need to calm down."

"I.....I can't." Go Raeve!

He quickly made his way over to the shower and turned it on, then grabbed my hand and threw me in along with him.

"June look at me, your going to be ok, I just need you to breathe." He told me calmly.

It wasn't working, I could still feel it. My eyes were now giving off colours of my energy. His hands now cupping my face.

"Please.....go." I begged him.

Then his lips crashed into mine.
