Imperium: Volume 1

Chapter 15.

The manner that Raeve told me he needed to talk to me was an unsettling one. Where did he just go?

He took me back through the hanger floor, and led me through a couple doors, that took us to a tunnel. There was still so much to this place that I needed to learn about. Especially if I planned on staying here long. His pace was quick, which unnerved me. Clearly something was bothering him, but what? Perhaps what I told him was to much.

"June." He snapped me out of my thoughts.

I didn't even realise we made our way to a door, that he had already propped open. I walked over to him and peered out the door. We found ourselves now outside the facility, but at the bottom of the valley. It was absolutely beautiful to be surrounded by so many structured cliffs and rocky mountains. The air even felt different down here, as in heavier.

"June, you need to listen to me." Raeve said grabbing my attention again.

I looked at him and he had his hands in his pocket. "What's going on?" I asked.

"I just went to see Harry." He said.

This can't be good.

"I think he's planning something. S...something that involves you." He said hesitantly.

I took a step back. "How do you mean?"

"He's taken an interest into what you can do. The ability you pocess, is something that could be very beneficial to us." He said.

"Isn't that a good thing?" I interrupted.

"Yes......and no." He took a step towards me. "It means you'll be sticking around for some time, but now that Harry knows what you can do, he will want to utilize you at any time."

"Ok." I said.

"It's not what you think June...." He paused..."Once Harry has a use for you, it won't matter how dangerous or risky the situation is. If it's for the cause, he'll use you as he sees fit.....even when it means it might lead you to your death. He sighed. I've already been put in this position, and if it weren't for Bowdies safety I would have left along time ago."

I looked him over. He looked defeated in a sense, as if it was all to late to turn back time. Almost like he now regretted bringing me here. I went to him and took his hand.

"I'll be ok Raeve." I told him.

"I know, but the shit I've seen. I don't want you to have to go through it." He said as if recalling certain memories. "It tends to leave permanent scars."

I brushed my finger across the scar on his face.

"Not those kind." He said as he moved my hand in his to his heart. "These." He said.

He was heartbroken. I felt a sudden overwhelming feeling of anger. The thought of him going through this, made my blood boil. I pulled him in close and held him, and he did the same in return.

We stayed like that until I felt him pull away. He pulled away slowly, to where I could feel his cheek brush against mine. Then those damn butterflies made there way back into my belly, and I felt my heart race. He stayed there for a moment before I pulled back.

"Don't worry about me." I said breaking the tension. "Besides you said I'm a bad ass right?"

He pulled back and I could see a smile break his heartache. Then he looked at me with a serious manner.

"Just don't hesitate to say no. You got it? He's got a way of convincing people to do his biddings. Especially with Imperiums." He told me.

"I understand." I assured him and saw as he took in a deep breath and started taking in the view. It didn't take long before I noticed the clouds above us turned into a dark grey.

Suddenly I felt a drop of rain hit my cheek, and I put up a field above us. I could see Raeve looking into the distance before he finally noticed that is was raining. He held out his hand, and a sudden look of confusion hit his face. Then he looked up to see the rain landing above him, and dropping to the side, as if someone was holding an invisible umbrella. He looked at me, and I smiled.

"I can get used to that." He chuckled.

Really, I thought. "Hmm."

I went ahead and dropped the field above his head, and backed up a little aways from him towards the door.

"Hey!!!!!" He yelled as he covered his head and looked to see that I was still bone dry.

"Ahahahahahahahah." I ran towards the door, with him on my heels. I went for the door but the damn thing was locked.

"Ahah oh no!" I said as I tried desperately to open the door. I turned around to see Raeve running at me full speed, using the door to stop himself. He stood directly in front of me soaking wet, with the water trailing down his face, to take cover under my field.

"June!" He yelled laughing.

"Ahahahah, I couldn't help myself."

He shook his hands through his hair as if to spray me with his wet hair.

"Ahahahah. Wet looks good on you ahah." We laughed until a thunderous clap came from the sky above.

That was when I noticed how close he was to me. It was me between him and the door, with his dog tags dangling in front of my eyes. I looked up to see him calm, but looking at me. I looked down, as the butterflies started forming in the pit of my stomach again. My breathing quickening.

I looked up to him again, and the only thing I cared to look at were his lips. Some remnants of the rain still cascading down his face. He just stood there looking at me, as I tried to calm down my breathing. He took a step closer to me to close the small gap. I looked in his eyes, and back to his lips. He took his hand and tilted my chin up to his lips, where we then felt eachother melt into the kiss.

He held it there for awhile, before moving his head to the other side, all the while keeping his mouth on mine. His lips were so soft against mine, and the rain made it easier to glide over his lips. His hands were now cupping my face, and I got lost in his touch. So lost that I ended up dropping my field, and we're both caught in the rain.

Another thunderous clap could be heard from above, and had us break away from eachother. He looked up, then looked back to me.

"Should we go in?" He chuckled.

"The doors locked." I said.

"Hmm." He looked to the door. "I'll be right back."

All of a sudden he disappeared. I turned to the door waiting for him to open it, but nothing. I stood there for a minute longer before I started banging on the door.

"Raeve!" I yelled.

Suddenly the door popped open, and Raeve stood there with a big grin on his face.

"Sorry, I couldn't help myself." He said chuckling.

"Fair enough." I smiled as I made my way back in.

We made our way back through the tunnel, and onto the hanger floor. "Perhaps we should get out of these wet rags." I suggested.

"Okay." He smiled before taking off towards his unit, making sure to look back at me one more time.

I smiled, and made my way back to mine.
