I'm the Alpha's World

Chapter 27

"She's crowning!"

"Come on Evan, push!"

"Here she comes."

Cries clutter my ears.

"She's beautiful."

"She looks like you."

"What's her name?"

I breathe heavily and lift my head, trying to see my child.

"We're just going to cut the cord, clean her off, then you can hold her."

"She's perfect Evangeline."

Everyone's words fill my ears but it's hard to pay attention when all I want to do is hold my baby. Her cries make my heart race in my chest. "Is she okay?" I ask loudly.

"She's very healthy."

Suddenly a nurse comes over to me with a wrapped bundle in her arms. "Here she is."

Tears cloud my eyes as she's placed carefully in my awaiting arms. I look down but all I see is blurs. Everyone continues to move around me but in this moment all I can focus on is her, my baby, laying in my arms. Tears finally fall and my eyes clear, now seeing her small, beautiful face with eyes scrunched closed. She cries and cries while my hand strokes the top of her head gently as if I'm barley touching her, because I'm scared to hurt her. "Don't worry she'll calm down, just hold her." Doctor Swanson tells me but my eyes stay glued to my baby.

This can't be real. I can't be holding a child in my arms. Not long ago I was crossing a small stream and now here I am, holding my baby in my arms.

"She does look like you." Sebastian comes up next to me while gazing down at her.

I take a deep breath and we spend some time relaxing in the examination room. Fiona and Andrew went home, wanting to give us privacy, and Doctor Swanson left to finish things up. "We have to name her."

Sebastian looks up at me. "What do you want to name her?"

"I don't know, I was having trouble thinking of names. I thought I was going to have more time."

"Do you have any family names?" He asks, "ones passed down?"

"I don't know, maybe, but I can't remember."

"Well something has to go on the birth certificate."

I glance down at her, wrapped up in my arms. She's calmed down now. "What would you like your name to be?"

"Caroline."

I look back up at Sebastian, "Caroline, it kinda suits her."

"It was my grandmothers, a family name." He stands up from the chair off to the side and walks up to us. "Only if you like it."

"I do, it fits nicely with ours." I smile. "Sebastian, Evangeline, and Caroline, sounds like it's meant to be."

We spend the night in the hospital and leave the next morning. Andrew and Fiona come to pick us up with a car seat, bought on request after they left the hospital last night. The car ride was short and consisted of Fiona and I playing with Caroline, a name approved by her. When we arrived home I carried Caroline inside with Fiona while Sebastian grabbed the car seat.

"I can't get enough of her Evan, she just too cute, too freakin cute!" Fiona whines as she plays with Carolines little hands. "Why does she have to be so cute?"

"Calm down, you sound like you're going to have a heart attack," I joke and we sit down on the couch with her.

"Just wait until she's walking around the pack grounds, everyone will love her."

"People do love babies."

Sebastian sets the car seat beside the door and comes over to us. "There's a surprise for you."

I look at him carefully, wondering what he has done. "What do you mean?"

"It's upstairs."

Without thinking I take Caroline with me upstairs, not wanting to leave her for a second. When I reach the top I search down the hallway, then into our room, then our bathroom. After finding nothing I peek into other rooms, Henry's, a spare, another spare, and finally the last bedroom upstairs, and when I open the doors my eyes go wide.

It's a nursery. Everything is magically in place. "How?"

"Let's just say Marina, Andrew, and I were very busy last night."

I look back to see Fiona standing behind me. "You! You did this?"

"Obviously, I just told you." She jokes and I give her a side hug, not wanting Caroline to get squished. "Let's hope Caroline is a bit more bright than you."

I roll my eyes and explore the nursery with Fiona trailing behind me. "How did you get all of this stuff?"

"Well, some are family heirlooms and others we ran out and bought quickly, like the crib was passed down from generations."

"It's beautiful."

When we finish upstairs, Fiona and I see the guys relaxing in the living room. "Where's Henry?" I ask, curious to why he hasn't come to see Caroline yet. He is the one that prayed for a baby.

"I'm not sure, I tried calling his new place." Sebastian tells me before taking Caroline from me. Seeing my little baby in his big arms is adorable, yet silly.

"Well he needs to come meet my baby, it's sounds so until him to miss something like this."

"I did try and talk to Kandy." Fiona pipes up. "But she made everything sound so normal. She said everything was going great between them and that she was happy here."

I sigh and lean against the wall. "Maybe I should go over there, see if he's home."

"No, no, you stay with the baby, Andrew and I can go get him." Fiona offers.

"Ya, we'll be right back."

Andrew and Fiona leave, giving me time alone with Sebastian and Caroline. I sit beside him on the couch as he softly rocks her back and forth, causing her to pass out in his arms. "She's such a daddy's girl." I say and brush my fingers across her chubby, pink cheeks.

"I'm so relieved that you two are safe." He mutters.

"I told you everything was going to go fine."

A few minutes later Marina arrives with baby clothes, bottles, diapers, powders, wipes, anything I could ever think of. Sebastian helps bring everything inside and I look through it all. "I didn't think she would need so much."

"Baby's need a lot." Marina says as she sets the last bag down on the counter island. "I have to say, little Caroline looks like a sweetheart."

Sebastian comes in carrying a feeding chair. "Do you think this is all we'll need?"

"For now."

I glance down at little Caroline resting in my arms. "You sure are high maintenance aren't you?"

She makes a funny noise and I laugh.

Marina sighs, "she sure is going to be a talker, I can tell right now."

Before anyone can speak, our attention is grabbed by the front door opening and shutting closed. Surprisingly, Henry walks in, breathing heavy. "Henry?" I question, happy to see that he actually came by.

He glances quickly at the baby then back up at me. "I need your help."

"What? What's wrong?" I ask. "Don't you want to meet your niece?" Caroline gazes up at him in my arms and I motion to her.

"I do, but something bad is happening."

"What?" Sebastian cuts in with a stern expression visible on his face. He's gone into Alpha mode again.

"Do we have to do this right now?"

Henry ignores me, "Kandy, she's been trying to convince me to do... bad things."

"What do you mean bad things?" My attention is all his at the mention of her name. I knew from the start she was bad news down deep in my gut. "What has she done?"

"She's trying to convince me, manipulate me-"

"To do what!" Sebastian shouts and steps in front of him.

"To kill you."
