I am Alpha (Book 1 of I Am series)

Chapter 11

Cole P.O.V

I was walking back to the house and when I came through the door. “Guys, something’s wrong with Sam. She just rang me and told me to get everyone over to her house and bring the pack doctor.” Zaya said worriedly. And with that I sprinted out of the house, grabbing the doctor on the way. I shifted mid air when I jumped, I decided it would be the fastest option. ‘Something bad is happening I can feel it.’ Stan admitted. I was following Sam’s scent all the way until I got to a house. Blood, I could smell blood. “Come on.” I heard Sam scream. I bolted into the house with the doctor just pulling up in the driveway in his car. “Doc, hurry up.” I ordered. I couldn’t keep my head on straight. I followed the scent of blood until I reached a bathroom. Sam was bent over pressing on Leo’s stomach. He was lying there in a pool of blood. I rushed over to them. “What happened?” I said trying to help her keep pressure on the wound. “I don’t know I came home, dad was unconscious in the living room and I came up here and Leo was in here.” Sam sobbed. The doctor finally reached us.

The doctor told us to wait outside because what he would have to do was not good for us to see. He eventually came out of the bathroom, by that time my mother, Hannah, Zaya, Ryan and Xavier were all waiting outside like me while Sam made sure her dad was alright. Sam’s dad was awake now and he didn’t remember what happened, which is for the best, being human and all he would start asking questions. “Leo’s stable now, we just have to get him back home and let him rest.” The doctor said in a soothing voice. “Well Ryan and Xavier can help you put him in the car.” I said nodding to the boys and they nodded back, and did exactly what I said. Luckily Sam’s dad didn’t see Leo when they took him out of the house, because he certainly would start questioning then. The living room was no where near the front door, thank goodness, so we had no trouble sneaking Leo out. Once the doctor left with Leo, Ryan and Xavier to help out I checked to see if the rest of my family was alright. And then they left. When I came back inside, Sam was sitting at the dinning room table. Her dad must have been in his room resting because I couldn’t see him anywhere. “It was him.” She said staring at the table. “Who?” I asked. “It was him.” She said again. “You’re gonna have to be more specific.” I said. “It had to be the one who attacked me.” She said quietly. She was right, there was only the wolf that attacked her to suspect to be the one who hurt Leo and her dad. “He was....” I said slowly, not knowing if I should tell her. “He was my uncle.” I said, she looked up at me. “What do you mean was?” She asked. “He’s a rogue, after his mate rejected him when he was younger, he became heartless and didn’t care about anyone or anything.” I explained. “But why did he attack me and then come to my house?” She asked confused. “I don’t know.” I answered truthfully. “Well someone’s got to know.” She yelled. “Look I know that you’re upset, but this wasn’t my fault, someone I love got hurt to.” I yelled back. She stood there and looked at me until she turned her head to look at the floor. “I’m sorry, I didn’t ask for this.” She said while closing her eyes and let one tear roll down.

I could hear him stepping closer, I didn’t want to open my eyes. Because then the tears would start flowing freely. He slowly took a step every few seconds, until I felt a hand on my cheek, wiping away the tear with his thumb. “No one did.” He whispered. And then he was gone, he left, the cold air hitting my cheek again where his warm soft hand once was.

The next day I came back to school, Zaya was waiting for me outside. “Hey.” I said giving her a small smile. “Hey, you alright?” She asked linking our arms on the way through the doors of school. We stopped and I turned back to her. “Yeah, I’ll be alright.” I said, as we started walking again. I could smell Cole, he was close. After yesterday afternoon I wanted to see if Leo was alright, but I didn’t want to talk to Cole. We rounded the corner and he was leaning on his locker, with Ryan and Xavier talking to him about football. He looked up, once again those piercing grey eyes were staring into my blues. I wanted to turn away and keep walking but it was almost impossible. I stopped in my tracks. Zaya waved her hand in front of me a few times, but my eyes were glued to his and his to mine. Ryan was still trying to talk to Cole, while Xavier saw me and started smirking. “What happened between you two?” Zaya asked giggling. “Nothing.” Cole and I said as I started walking again.
