I am Alpha (Book 1 of I Am series)

Chapter 12

Cole P.O.V

I spent the next few days training Sam, since Leo was down for the count. I took it easy on her but she didn’t like that, so she went as hard as she could on me, attempting to get my temper up and I’ll snap and I won’t go easy on her. But that wasn’t going to happen. I had warriors out searching for my uncle, Brendan, the rogue that attacked Leo, Sam and Sam’s dad, who doesn’t even deserve me to call him an uncle. Leo had told us Brendan was mainly going for Sam’s dad. But luckily, Leo dropped by to see if Sam was alright after I told him about what happened between Sam and I at the gym. So Leo defended Sam’s dad the best he could. Brendan was the head of combat and beta to my pack when my father was Alpha. My father died after a fire, the whole pack was inside. And Brendan has set the building a light, my dad attempting saving everyone and he did but didn’t get himself out in time. When he died it shattered my family. It was the year before I first shifted and took my rightful place as Alpha. I was that broken when my father died, that the pack started worrying if I was able to lead them. But I stepped up, I wasn’t going to disappoint my father.

That’s why I couldn’t let Sam win our fight. My birthright would be stolen and I would’ve disappointed my dad. I was in the gym with Sam, training. ‘Alpha, we searched the whole perimeter of our packs land. He’s no where to be found.’ One of the warriors mind linked me. ‘Well keep searching.’ I mind linked back. Sam was punching the punching bag. “I think you should give that punching bag a rest before it breaks.” I said, putting my hands in my pockets. “I can’t,” she said, “not when he’s still out there.” She sighed and kept punching. “Do you know how stubborn you are?” I asked sitting down a couple of metres away. “Yeah, it’s a good trait.” She said chuckling lightly. “So does that mean your complimenting me as well? Because everyone says that I’m stubborn.” I said smirking. “Ha. Nope,” she said popping the ‘p’ in nope. “Your not stubborn just aggravating.” Sam said and then shrugged. After a few more minutes, Sam finally stepped away from the punching bag taking off the gloves. “Done?” I asked standing up. “For now.” She said huffing and puffing. I shook my head. “What?” She asked, putting the gloves away. “Nothing.” I shrugged.

We walked back into the pack house and had lunch with everyone. Later on Zaya and I both went back home. “Hey dad.” I said walking through the front door. “Hey, I was wondering if you would be able to go get some groceries. I would have done it, but I’m caught up with work.” He said pointing to a stack of papers in front of him. “Sure, do you have a list?” I asked. He stood up and handed me a piece of paper, with groceries that we need on it. “Thanks, Sam.” He said giving me a kiss on the cheek. “It’s fine dad. Love you.” I said walking back outside. “Love you to sweet heart.” I heard him call out.

I got to the grocery store, after I finished paying and walked outside it was night time. And there were no other cars in the parking lot other than mine. But luckily I had night vision, thank goodness for that. I reached for my car handle. I heard someone behind me. “Brendan.” I muttered. I dropped the bags onto the ground and done a roundhouse kick, but he caught my leg mid air and tripped me over. I fell to the ground and attempted to get up, but by now he had a knife to my throat. “So he taught you, did he, I thought you would be at each other’s throats, you know since you’s are both Alpha’s. Well that training isn’t going to help you sweety.” He said and gave me an evil laugh. “Don’t call me sweety.” I growled. “Now I wouldn’t be trying to order someone around while they have a knife to their throat. Oops, I forgot to mention, this knife is special. Why?” He said leaning closer. “Arghhhh.” I screamed as he pushed it further into my skin, it was.....burning me. “You see there is something called, wolfsbane. And it burns werewolves. Hurts like hell doesn’t it?” He said chuckling. “What do you want from me?” I asked trying to hold back tears that were threatening to roll down my cheeks. “Nah, I’ll get to that part later. Now you are going to come with me right now.” He said, pulling my hair back and lifting me up. And then he hit my head into the side of my car. After that everything went black.
