Chapter Chapter Fifteen
Unedited.
"Relax" Nathan orders. "I wasn't going to do anything with that girl." He slams the front door shut. They just arrived home from a business dinner they attended together. "I'm going to see my daughter." Sabrina rushes to the nursery where the new nanny Selma was sitting In Jasmine's nursery, watching her sleep.
"Hi, Selma." She greets her. She came with such a high recommendation that they hired her on the spot. "You can leave whenever you're ready. We brought some food home for you. Nathan probably put it in the kitchen." "You didn't have to do that, but thank you." Selma, being a woman in her mid-Fifties was smart enough to know when she needed to leave and made a quick exit. She grabs her sweater from the rocker and rushes out of the room. It's been about two weeks since they moved in now. Sabrina thought that she and Nathan were making progress until tonight. He invited her to some dinner with him, and some business associates. One of the gentlemen brought his twenty- something-year-old daughter, Tanya, to dinner, and she kept eyeing Nathan shamelessly. She twirled her blond hair, licked the food off her finger seductively, and made sure her cleavage was within his eye zone. All while her father was sitting next to her, and Sabrina, Nathan's wife, sitting next to him.
She watches as Nathan mostly ignores her until she leaves the table to go to the restroom. When she gets back her seat was taken. Tanya was in it. She was leaning over very closely to Nathan and spoke in his ear.
As Sabrina waited behind them for her seat, she could hear the not so quiet secret. "I know your only with her for the baby, why don't you call me when you get rid of her." Tanya slips him a card in his pocket.
Of course the world would think he was with her for Jasmine. She even wondered that a little. At this point, she was one of the world's most hated people. She's never seen so many likes on a picture until the one with the phone hitting her face was posted. Some felt bad for her, and some say she deserved it. To top off the embarrassment Conner couldn't find the phone.
She clears her throat. She really wanted to be a bitch right now, but this was business, and she didn't want to mess anything up for Nathan.
They both look up at her. Tanya seems surprised but Nathan seemed like normal.
Tanya quickly moves her behind to her own seat, and Nathan continues on with his dinner and conversation. She said absolutely nothing the rest of the dinner, even on the drive back, but as they reached the front door she couldn't hold it in anymore.
"Are you going to sleep with her now?" She withdrawals.
"Who?" He sticks the key in the door.
"You know who?"
"Relax." I wasn't going to do anything with that girl."
Now, Nathan enters the nursery and joins her as she gazes at their daughter.
"Look at me." He orders."
She slowly turns her whole body in his direction. He puts a hand on her cheek. She leans into it, loving the feeling.
"It's almost gone." He inspects the other cheek where the bruise is. I've offered an award to any who can give us any info leading to an arrest.
"Hmm." Disappointed reached her.
"Let's go talk in the living room."
She reluctantly follows him and sits onto the couch. "I had no intension of doing anything." He stays standing and sticks his hands in his pocket. "It's just business. Her father and I are in the midst of a deal. A very important deal. If this goes through, he will be one of our biggest clients. I don't want damage that because she hit on me.
"I wish you would have defended me."
"By staying faithful, and away from her, I am defending you. She will figure it out that I don't want her. There's no need for this."
"The way you've treated me. Anyone would think we're strangers. I could hardly blame the girl for thinking there was a chance. You're letting everyone just believe that all I am to you is the caretaker for your daughter. I at least deserve some respect from you."
"It was a business meeting, not a date. And how exactly do you think people are viewing me? My wife cheated on me with my cousin and yet she's sleeping in my bed. Pathetic is probably about right."
"Oh please, everyone just thinks it's because of Jasmine."
"How exactly does everyone think she got here? You don't think they realize that we had to sleep together?..." He cocks a brow. "Another thing, I don't have to be with you to have a relationship with my daughter, and the world knows that. I could hire ten lawyers, and bribe the cleanest judge if you ever wanted to deny me, my child."
She scans the room at loss for words. "Things are different between us, and you completely avoid me."
He lets out a breath and runs fingers through his hair. "I'm very busy, and I told you, Sabrina, I am not the same man you knew before. I don't think you're understanding when I'm telling you that."
Don't husbands and wives sleep in the same bed?"
"I." He pauses.
"You don't want to."
He stands and paces the living room. "I just need time to adjust."
"Am I disgusting to you?"
"I think it's time for bed." He starts to walk away.
"Wait." She folds her arms. He needed to put his pride aside for a moment. If he wants this, then he was going to have to say it.
"I'm willing to give you time but, I think maybe you didn't know what you were getting yourself into when you gave this marriage another chance... So, what I'm willing to do is give you a free pass. You can take back what you said, no hard feelings, and Jasmine and I will move somewhere nearby so that you can see her as much as you want." She couldn't be with him if he couldn't even sleep near her. He could have his daughter as much as he wanted now. Did he still want her in the picture?
He stares at her showing no emotion. The quietness echoes through the room. He pulls a hand out of his pocket and rubs the back of his neck.
"If you need some time to think, I can give you that." She adds.
He clears his throat and shakes his head. "No, I don't need anytime, and I don't need to take back anything I've said.
"I don't want to be with you if you are in this just for jasmine." She makes it very clear.
"I've never said that I was in this for Jasmine alone."
"But you won't say that you're not." She fires back.
He greets his teeth. He didn't want to give her any kind of power in their marriage.
"Are you doing this to get revenge and hurt me? Is that your game?" She accuses.
"No." He clamped his teeth together.
"Then why are we doing this?" She yells.
"Because I still want to be with you..." He growls. "Even in all of this mess. Even though Judd's hands have been all over you." He cringed. "I still want to be with you. And I don't want another man touching you. Is that clear enough for you?" She was frozen. That comment about Judd brought a little reality to her actions. His words should have made her happy.
"Are you happy?" He grabs her attention away from her thoughts.
"Take all the time you need." She replies and heads into the bedroom.
She couldn't let him continue to think she turned into some pushover. She loves him enough to put up with a lot, but she wasn't that desperate. She couldn't keep letting him make all the rules.
Now more than ever she wanted to get proof of her innocence. Talking to Judd was not an option, but maybe she can contact someone from the tabloids. Anyone who was snapping pictures that day knows the truth. Not only that, but they must have more pictures proving that she didn't react by kissing him at all. But what is she going to do? Call up and say, hey, it's Sabrina Alden. Can I have all the pictures from the day you caught me with Judd? They would definitely just write about it and poke fun at her.

The next day while Nathan was at work, Vivian dropped by unexpectedly. She had no makeup on, and maybe too much of a tan. Wherever she went was hot and sunny.
Sabrina opens the door while holding Jasmine in her arm.
"Hello." Vivian greets. "May I come in?"
Sabrina widens the door and lets her in without saying a word.
Vivian moves to the kitchen and stands around awkwardly before meeting Sabrina's eyes. "May I hold my granddaughter?" "No." She refuses flatly.
"Why?" Vivian questioned straight away like she was in shock.
Sabrina walks away and sets Jasmine in her bassinet. She then walks back over and puts her hands on her hips. "You're out of your mind if you think I'm going to let you pretend to care for my child. It wasn't so long ago that you were thanking God she wasn't born, and that her brother was dead. Yes, she was saying no. She couldn't let Vivian think that she was forever going to have no consequences for always opening that big mouth of hers.
"I'm sorry about all of those things I said. I was angry and hurt."
"Sorry doesn't make it okay Vivian. I simply don't trust you. You think it's okay to say whatever you want, however you want. It must make you feel better somehow. Well, Let me make myself feel better by telling you how I feel. You are the only, miserable, selfish, and most childish, grown woman, that I know. Stay the hell away from me, and my daughter. I don't care that you are Nathan's mother."
Harsh she knew. She wasn't really going to keep Vivian away forever, she is just returning the favor, and maybe she was teaching her a little lesson. If she was going to have to put up with Vivian forever, Vivian was going to have to tone it the hell down.
"Sabrina, I'm just trying to accept what you and Nathan have. I do not want to fight anymore."
She wasn't buying this goodie-goodie act. Although, Vivian did seem genuine. The words she spoke about Sabrina not deserving to be a mother were words she couldn't forget.
Jasmine began to cry suddenly. "I think you should leave." She suggests and runs back to Jasmine. As she consoles her, she hears the door open and close.
It was just her, and Jasmine again.
Nathan was almost never around, it was a little frustrating. At least he gave whatever time he did have to Jasmine.
Until that night, she woke to pee and found him sleeping near her. He had one hand behind his head and the other over his stomach, and he hadn't changed out of his suit. It was like he wasn't planning on it, but fell asleep.
When she came back from the bathroom, he was still laying in the same position. She gets back onto the bed and pulls the arm that he had on his abdomen and lays her head on his chest.
His arm instinctively wrapped around her. Pulling her close, and holding her tight. The only word she could think to describe the way she felt was comfortable. Eventually, she got brave enough to throw her leg over his too. She inhales a deep breath. "Mm."
Of course, the best sleep she's had in a long time would only be for an hour. Jasmine's cries made them both suddenly wake. They get to her room as if their lives depended on it. Once Jasmine was back to sleep, Nathan went into a different room. She had to admit, it hurt a little. Actual it hurt a lot. This wasn't the way a second chance is supposed to be. "Sabrina." She suddenly hears Nathan calling her from the guest bedroom.
"Yeah." She enters the slightly open door.
He was undressing, wearing only his pants. He drops his shirt in the hamper and approaches.
Her mouth opens. He was just as toned as she remembered. She wanted to reach out and run her hands down his abs.
He extends his hand holding out something small and shinny.
Sabrina crunches up her eyebrows and grabs her ears. One of her earrings was missing. Her favorite diamond-studded pair that her mother has bought her for her sixteenth birthday.
"It was stuck in my shirt." He grabs her hand places it in her palm.
"Oh. Thank you." She takes it.
As she turns to leave, he grabs her hand and tugs her back. "I was going to wait for the morning but, what happen between you and my mother today? Did you really tell her that you didn't want her to have anything to do with her own grandchild?"
She bites her lips. "You mean the grandchild she didn't want?"
"If I remember correctly, you used to tell me how excited she was for her future grandchildren."
"Did you hear anything she said to me the night Jasmine was conceived?"
He folds his arms. "Some of it, and I took care of it already. Listen, Jasmine is half mine. You can't tell my mother that she can't hold my child. That's childish."
"Ugh..." She hated it when he made more sense than her. "I don't trust her."
"What reason do you have not to trust her with her own grandchild?"
She bites her lips again and looks away from him. She had nothing on Vivian. "But that doesn't mean I'm going to be best friends with her."
"No one said you have to be."
"Good." When she met his eyes again, he was watching her mouth.
Her breath quickens instantly. She was willing and wanting him to kiss her but he glances away.
Hope you're enjoying.
Thank you everyone for your support.
