Chapter 65
Camille POV.
"What are you talking about?" I mumbled.
He stared at me with a ghostly smile on his lips. When his masculine thighs brushed against mine, I closed my eyes, struggling for breath. Though he was a few inches from me, I could practically feel his body pressing against me. My heart felt like it was about to break if he didn't go away from my view. I needed him to get away from me. The thought of letting him win didn't appeal to me, nor did I want to satisfy him. What did he know about me? There was nothing he knew about me. I had grown my daughter in his absence for the past four years, and he had no idea what I had been through.
"Are you scared of me, Cam?" he asked in a soft voice that made my heart skip a beat.
"Why are you calling me Cam?" I asked sharply, masking my cold exterior.
"The reason I called you is obvious to you." He said with amusement and stared at me with piercing eyes. His gaze felt like drilling through my head. "I know that you know it fucking well and don't pretend to be somebody else." "Get off me!" I glared at him with my bare teeth.
"Cam." He approached me, trying to grab my arm but I shoved him away roughly.
"Don't you dare to touch me!" I shouted in his face, giving him a warning with my eyes. "You shouldn't dare!"
"Cam, I'm very sorry..." he attempted to speak with regret in his voice.
"No..." I pleaded, shaking my head and holding back my tears. "Don't apologize! You killed her four years ago. Your Cam died four years ago. The woman in front of you is Cara." I stabbed my finger into my chest, baring my teeth and looking into his eyes. "I'm Cara Davidson."
"I didn't kill her," Scott's voice cracked as he said that. His legs moved up to me but I got away from him. "How could you kill someone you loved?"
"Quit doing this, asshole!" Reaching the table with wobbly feet I grabbed my purse. "You won't be spared, Mr. Scott Martinez. I promise I'll let you feel how you feel being rooted in hell."
"Ouch!" Scott laughed which caught my attention. I turned around to look at him. "It hurts, Cam." He placed his hand on his chest while laughing even harder. He laughed and laughed and laughed until his stomach hurt. "Jesus Christ, do you think I'm scared of you?"
My jaw flexed as I cast a cold glare. I wished I could throttle his neck right then and there. Without saying a word I headed to the door but froze the moment he said...
"Colette is my daughter, Cam. She is my blood right?"
What the fuck!
I spun around, watching him in disbelief. My whole body trembled when I saw Scott's serious expression. He was not joking and there was no sign of a smile on his face. Did he find out? Did he know Colette was his daughter? Of course, he did know I could see that in his eyes. Letting out a shuddering breath I waited for him to speak further.
"What a lovely daughter we have, Cam..."
"She is not yours!" I screamed, cutting him off. I hated seeing him as my child's father. "She has never been yours, she is not yours and I will make sure she never becomes yours."
"However, she has my blood," he said with a blank expression. Stuffing his hands in his pants pocket, he walked up to me. "She is my flesh, my part, and my genes. Don't you see her eyes every day, sweetheart?" There was sarcasm in his voice. Jesus Christ!
Suddenly my throat turned dry as I swallowed dryly. My body was paralyzed by fear, so I relied on the wall for support. Suddenly, a storm of panic, anxiety, and insecurity filled my lungs, preventing me from breathing.
I didn't want him to take away my daughter. How did he find out about her? Who told him that? The only family I had was Colette. She was mine and I had no intention of sharing her with him. I would never let him get close to her.
I dared look into his eyes which were filled with mixed emotions. I couldn't tell what he was thinking at that moment but I could tell whatever he was thinking was not in my favor. What was I going to do if he took her custody? Scott had huge power, he was filthy rich and he had this amount of fame in the world. I was sure as hell I wouldn't be able to win if he took this matter to court.
The game hadn't begun yet and I felt like I was already losing it. Holding back my tears, I stared back at him. "She might be sharing your blood but you have no right to her. You lost it the moment you threw me out of your life." I choked as I bit into my lip and tightened my hands into fists. I wished he hadn't realized how much it still hurt me. He humiliated me, insulted me, and even abused me. I would never forget how he behaved toward me four years ago. "Can you forgive me?" He whispered. His voice was non-audible. His jaw clenched as he looked away and tried to avoid looking into my eyes.
"No!" I spat and turned around before stalking off to my office.
I pulled my car into the parking lot and killed the engine. Sighing heavily I planted my head on the steering wheel and listened to my throbbing heartbeats. I didn't know what would happen in the future but all I knew was I had to save my daughter from that monster. I didn't want him near her otherwise he would brainwash her. He might fill her head with shit. He might tell her he was her father and Colette believes everything. By seeing her I could tell how much she admired him. I was afraid that this admiration would lead her in the wrong direction and destroy our lives. I looked at my house which was made by me and Conan. So many consequences we bear to reach that position. I even sacrificed my own family. I don't want to repeat history.
I would prove to Scott Martinez what he really made me.
I am no longer Cinderella.
Before leaving the car I combed my hair and cleaned my face. I had bloodshot eyes so I used eye drops to clean my eyes and applied light makeup. Colette would be curious to know why I was wearing that look. "I'm strong enough to defeat him," I muttered to myself and got out of the car.
"Mum..." Colette rushed toward me once she spotted me entering the home. She was sitting in the living room with her toys scattered around.
I smiled and kneeled to reach her tiny form. "I missed you."
"But we met in the morning, honey." I kissed her head and squeezed her into a tight hug. "I'm sorry I hurt you in the morning."

"It vanished away." She showed me her small arm which was unmarked. "I'm fine, Mommy."
Hailey approached us. I was surprised to see worry lines on her temples. She seemed disturbed. "Let your mother freshen up. Until then, play with your favorite toy." "Okay, Mum." She grinned and ran away.
Once Colette disappeared I stood up and asked Hailey, "Why do you look so tense?"
"Ma'am..." she swallowed hard, and sweat shone on her forehead. "This is what I found on the porch." Her hand trembled as she lifted an envelope.
Then I held it tightly and stared at her scared face. "What is this?" I asked. "What is this, Hailey?"
"It is..." she gulped. "It is written in blood."
I pulled the letter out of the envelope and unfolded it. I sucked in my breath when I read the bloodied words.
>> Cara Davidson, you will die brutally <<
I shot my eyes at shaking Hailey and gave her a forced smile. "Somebody must have joked with us."
"I saw him, ma'am." Her hands trembled as she curled and uncurled her fists. "He had worn a white mask..."
"I don't know what you're talking about, Hailey?" I cut her off. "Why are you trembling like a leaf?"
"Somebody tried to attack Colette," she breathed and my eyes went round. "He was about to hit her but I dodged her away and his rod landed on my back." she turned around and unzipped her frock, revealing ugly blue and red line on her back. I covered my mouth and a gasp escaped my lips.
"What is this, Hailey?" I gasped and gently stroked her wound.
"If I were not there, Colette..." She looked at my daughter and I shook my head. I couldn't bring this thought to mind. Colette was all I had left in this world who loved me unconditionally and losing her was the end of my life. "Where is Conan?" I asked her.
"He hasn't returned from work yet."
"What?" I shot my eyes at the clock. It was ten and he had always returned to work before eight. What took him so long? I fished out my phone from my purse and dialed his number. Panic hit me when his phone went to voicemail. I tried again but no response. In the end, I left him a voicemail with my raspy voice and locked every door.

"Good night, dear." I kissed Colette and pulled a blanket over her small body.
"Good night, Mommy." she grinned and kissed me back on my cheek. "I love you."
"I love you too," I whispered and glanced at the window. Conan hadn't returned yet and it was bothering me. He didn't even leave me a message. I last saw him with Rika and after that he became invisible to me.
Pushing my body onto my feet I dragged myself out of Colette's room. Ever since Hailey told me about that suspicious man I couldn't sit still. It made me think about him over and over again. I plopped into my bed and grabbed my vitamin tablets before swallowing them down. Taking a long breath I tried to calm my palpitating heart down. Today was a long day. I had lost to Scott. I closed my eyes and his eyes flashed in my head.
I would take my revenge by hook or by crook.
Switching off the lamp on the nightstand I lay on the bed and covered my body. I was tired but my body was not demanding rest. I was restless. The morning scene came to mind over and over again. I thought I had erased Scott from my mind, but he was still there. I would be able to rest only if I gave him a good lesson. But why did I feel something was off Looking at his face he looked different than what he used to be. I couldn't describe his look but it was gloomy. Has something happened to him? I heard he married Maura, but they weren't as close as they used to be. I even caught a glimpse of them staying away from each other at social events. Maura is often spotted with a new man. Was she keeping him happy? Scott might have had a dark exterior, but something inside him was breaking him.
"Why the hell do I care about him?" I sighed, rolling my eyes. "If he dies or lives, I don't give a damn. All I want is to take away his property. I will leave him with nothing like he did to me four years ago." Shatter!
I bolted upright when I heard the shatter of glass. Scrambling off the bed I sprinted out of my room, breathing heavily. "Conan!" I called, looking across the dark hallway. I walked downstairs quietly and scanned the living room. "Conan..." I called again, making surveys in the kitchen, store room, guestroom, and office. I heard a crash of glass but I couldn't spot a single piece anywhere. Where did that noise come from?
Turning around I stepped up onto the patio, casting an eye over. The wind was howling on a cold night. There was no illumination or light and no movement as the street was dark, cold, and deserted. I sighed and turned around, heading back into the house, but I froze the moment the power went out. Everything was dark.
"Shit!" I hissed out, scurrying to my daughter's room. Whenever she saw dark around her, she would become frightened.
Thud!
And the next moment, "Mommy!" Colette screamed at the top of her lungs.
Sucking into my breath, I hurried to her room but backed away when a dark figure appeared in front of me. My eyes grew wide when I noticed his face covered with a red and white mask. "W..who..." I was speechless when I saw an iron rod in his hand. It was the same rod Samuel used to hit Rika.
"Hi Cami, long time no see."
It was the voice I used to listen to twelve years ago. It was the voice that used to chill my blood. It was the voice that was still hunting me. It was not just a sound, but a nightmare. Samuel!
