Chapter 57
Chapter 57
"Please..." His voice sounded brittle. "I'd do anything to make you understand but I need you in my life." His eyes had turned red and Diana knew he was being sincere. "You lied to me, darling Liam and I can't forgive you not even with those crocodile tears or that tempting voice." She snapped at him.
"Don't be ridiculous, Diana. I'm not faking anything." He explained but Diana's eyes danced around the room in order to avoid his.
"What about the trust... where has it gone to?". He questioned with a heart pounding. More scared of the impending answer than the visible wrath on Diana's face. "Hahaha... you're so funny. Well, do you think I'd bank on a heartbreaker like you? I know better, honey". Her words dropped with pride laced in sarcasm and obvious contempt.
Liam was too hurt to speak. Why did she always bring that up? Why can't she just let go? I'm no longer that confused teenager...
"Liam!!!". Diana screamed his name after making various attempts at getting his attention.
The sharp interruption into his flow of thoughts, made Liam lose balance but Diana unconsciously reached out for his hand and drew him up.
Her senses came back and she immediately jumped back as if in fright. Liam smiled softly at her.
Reliving the firm touch of her soft palms on his wrist whilst she dragged him up. One of the reasons he couldn't stop loving her - her strength.
Diana who looked like she had seen a ghost, sighed deeply before quaking the four-word-sentence that Liam has been dreading since her car came in the driveway that morning.
"You should leave now". She instructed in a dead voice. Liam sniffed and opened his mouth to speak but her up-raised hand stopped him.
"No more words, Liam. I'm not playing games. I mean it". She deadpanned.
Liam still defiant made an attempt to speak but Diana's ringtone threw his words back to his stomach.
Diana stepped away from him to answer the call while Liam began to pace in panic of what's going to happen upon Diana ending the call.
"Hi sweetie". Sam spoke cheerily over the phone and Diana's knotted lips stretched.
"How have you been?". The caring Sam continued and Diana laughed lightly.
Liam turned sharply towards Diana's direction and smiled. The wide smile on her face as she talked on the phone, told him hat it was Sam calling and since Diana listens to her, she might be able to advice Diana better. "Been good... Sam?". Diana responded but Sam wasn't satisfied.
"I didn't call just to have you dismiss me quickly. Gist me about all that's been going on with you. I apologize for not being able to keep in touch". Sam talked, excitedly.

"Hey. Hey girl. Take a breaaaak, okay? I am fine, like I stated early and I'm also very sorry for not checking up". Diana returned the favour.
"Na na na... Don't be, okay? It's fine. So, tell me about your boyfriend, how's things been and so on". Sam could sense the coldness in Diana's reply.
"Don't you ever mind your business? I said I'm fine and if you picked up your phone just to ask about my boyfriend, then you're ridiculous."
"I knew something was wrong when I called you but I couldn't place it. I agree more now, what's wrong baby?". Sam's voice was soft and somber and Diana couldn't refuse such love.
"I'm done with Liam!!!". Diana shrieked, making Sam pull the phone away from her ears.
"Calm down, will you?". Sam cautioned and after she heard Diana's heavy breathing reduce a bit, she urged Diana to go into detail.
"He's been lying to me... Do you remember the times I told you that there was something off about him?". Diana questioned.
"Can't remember you ever saying that but go on". Sam responded in sincerity.
"You don't forget, Sam. I told you... or I guess so. I was too blinded in love to see the plentiful red flags." Diana turned and sneered at Liam before continuing.
"He's been lying to me. He's an ex-convict, a thorough and smooth liar and a heartbreaker". She paused as if in thoughts.
"I keep wondering what I saw in him and why he's still in my house. Please, do me a favor, Sam".
"What could that be?". Sam seemed puzzled. Diana could be such a drama queen from whining about falling into wrong hands to asking a favor. Wow! Just wow! Sam got a friend just like herself.
"... Will you Sam?". Diana pleaded but Sam had been so lost in thoughts and didn't know what was asked of her.
Knowing how her friend can be, she responded in the positive but Diana's next sentence made her wish she had asked Diana for a recap.
"Come help me push this... "thing" out of my house. I can't house a liar or an ex-convict. What if the police start reinvestigation and come to ruin my peace because of a liar?". Diana rattled and Sam found it hard to swallow saliva.
"You know that, your first fight shouldn't end your relationship, right? Diana, Liam is a gooood man and I shouldn't be the one to tell you that because it's written all over him. That's the reason you fell in love with him and still do, right?". Sam had switched to persuasion.
"Firstly, this isn't our first fight. Come to think of it! I have been tolerating a liar up until now?". Diana's words showed how shocked she was.
"Okay okay. There might not be any way I can convince you to go ahead with the relationship but why throw him out?". Sam wondered in words.
"Which sane person keeps an ex under their roof? And an ex-convict? It's just impossible for me". Diana replied.
"Don't you think you're being rash? Liam has been nothing but a caring man, you've been the hard to deal with one ever since.." Diana's impatience made her raise her voice a few decibels before speaking "There's no relationship. Liam is as good as dead to me. Now, ask him to leave my house now before I get the police. I guess they'd missed an ex-convict." She smirked, proud of her excellent harsh words.
"I'm coming over... we need to sit and talk. I don't even know how to join the puzzle. Don't throw him out until I'm there."Sam offered and it was only then that Diana knew she was hungry and needed some food.
