Chapter 56
Chapter 56.
The sound of a car coming into the driveway was what made Liam open his eyes. He mumbled some words as he rubbed his eyes with his thumb. Looking down at himself, he groaned wishing to be out of the nightmare as soon as possible.
He was still in his work clothes and he wondered how he was able to perform at work after the unpleasant event with Diana.
On the mention of work, his eyes turned to his gold wristwatch and they almost fell off in despair.
He was going to be late for work. Something that rarely ever happened.
Groaning, he stood up from the sofa and his mind took him back to how he ended up in the bedroom and still in his work clothes.
Diana's leaving was affecting his mental health so much that he almost bashed someone's car yesterday with reckless driving.
He had gotten home very upset, tired and edgy. He couldn't even patiently undress. With his sour mood, he hated to think because it won't help matters. After he had doused his head in water, he had staggered into his bedroom, had dropped on the bed like a sack of beans and the rest became history. But, waking this morning with the same sour mood, he knew his day at work was already ruined.
Shaking his head vigorously as if he wanted to shake off the negative thoughts, he strode towards the bathroom with reluctance heavy on his feet.
"What's wrong with you, Liam?" He snapped at his face staring back at him from the mirror stationed on his bathroom sink.
A wave of nostalgia hit him as he stood in front of the mirror. Diana was always there before him in the mornings... he would then tease and hug her from behind feeling her whole body, inch after inch but... Her picture began to dissipate slowly and the feel of whatever it was he had been touching thinking it was Diana's thighs, was rubber.
He immediately jumped out of his trance and stared at his shocked reflection in the mirror.
Stopping, he switched on the tap with his left hand and making use of his right, he washed his face in a bid to cool his already burning cheeks.
He raised his head from the water and blew out a breath from his mouth in exasperation.
He took a quick bath and left the bedroom. He took a few more minutes to organize himself for work. It was already a fact that he'd be late. He's not going to panic.
With his hand shifting the tie back and forth, he descended the stairs with his suitcase dangling from the other hand that he had.
"Hmmm-mmmh" Someone cleared their throat and Liam's eyes shot up. He would never mistake that voice. He rushed to hug her but then raised a hand which made him stop.
"I leave for barely two days and my house is turned into a dumping ground for dirty clothes? I expected better from you, Liam?". Diana sneered while taking a stroll in the sitting room while she talked. "Don't blow this out of proportion, Dian? I'm sorry. How many times should I repeat it?" His fingers passed roughly through his hair and Diana didn't miss the exhausted sigh.
"Diana love, I made a mistake. if it means spending my whole life correcting it, I don't mind". He pleaded and Diana could measure his amount of seriousness but rolled her eyes.
"I know what you wanted. You wanted me to be kept in the dark for life! I don't blame you, though". She sucked her lips for a while, making sure to dodge Liam's teary eyes.
"I wonder when you planned to let me in on your "little dirty secret". She retorted, the sarcasm in her voice leaving Liam even more helpless.
"I can explain..." Liam began but Diana's high pitched laughter halted him.
"Oh, you can?" She smirked removing he sunshades from her face and walking stylishly to him.
"Well, yes. I know you can but you didn't so? ... This conversation is over!!! Pack your things and freaking leave my house!!!". She screamed, completely scaring Liam out of his wits.
"You can't do this, Diana. I love you! I've never felt this way for a woman before, it's too bad that I messed up but this isn't the best way to solve this". Liam pleaded, desperately whilst reaching for Diana's hand.
"Don't touch me! You lying monster. I knew there was something fishy about you. Thanks for proving me right!!!." She growled and Liam shuddered.

"I'm... I'm..." The words were still on his lips when her words overtook his.
"Sorry, right? Oh... hold it there. I'm not interested in your pleas or explanation because it's worthless. We are over Liam. That's if your love wasn't a lie though." She mumbled the last part but Liam heard it and his blood ran cold. "What?! Diana? How could you say that! I love you!" He shrieked before he could restrain himself.
"Aish! Don't be too loud. You're hurting my ears". Diana snapped at him as her index fingers flew to her ear hole in order to block out the harsh sound.
Liam's tongue clicked and he glanced at his wristwatch. Time had flew like it was in a hurry to take it's role as the master of ceremonies of a show but Liam had thrown his cares to the wind. What's life going to be with Diana? He couldn't even perform upto satisfactory for the last two days that her line had suddenly gone dead.
"I agree with you about my wrong for lying but Diana. You can't throw our relationship away for a flimsy mistake!". He found himself shouting again and he groaned in frustration.
The only reason he kept shouting was because, he was scared. It was a reflect. Nothing intentional but apparently, Diana didn't see it that way.
In her eyes, he was a liar and probably a cheat who wanted to intimidate her by shouting but he couldn't get that chance. Not ever!
